Holiday Ornament
The George Washington
Masonic Memorial is pleased to
announce that The Three Great
Lights in Masonry is the 2011
Holiday Ornament.
The Holy Bible, Square and Compasses were selected by the Fraternity in its formative period as the
first and most important symbols presented to a
new Mason, and are called the Three Great Lights
in Masonry.
The Holy Bible represents the rule and guide of a
Mason’s faith, the Square symbolizes virtue, and the
Compasses alludes to the importance of self-mastery in moral and intellectual progress.

The
Christmas Spirit
Amongst the lights and tinsel
and the parcels wrapped with
care, amongst the pies and
puddings and sweet aromas in
the air, are hearts just spilling
over with love and generosity;
Is this not what Christmas is all
about - sharing our prosperity?
Volunteers, giving freely of their
time, show it in their eyes. It's
seen on the face of the lessfortunate, receiving a Christmas
surprise.
Carols sung as we light the tree
can make a senior smile; Warm
smiles and hugs can really help
them to walk that extra mile.
Amongst these joyous, loving
deeds is Christmas, pure and
clear; This is the part that could
spill over, amongst all the days
of a year.

Tips on Christmas
Tree Removal
• Check to see if your local
trash collector is willing
to pick up the tree; if
so, leave it on the curb
with your trash.
• Find out if your
local government has
a special tree pick-up day
when discarded trees are taken to be
chipped for mulch. If such a service is
not available, consider finding a location capable of mulching your tree.
• Repurpose your Christmas tree; break
down the tree for firewood and kindling; or use the wood to create a bird
feeder or yard decoration.

Use compact fluorescent light bulbs
with the ENERGY STAR® label.
Air dry dishes instead of using your
dishwasher's
Turn off your computer and monitor when not in use.
Plug home electronics, such as TVs
and DVD players, into power strips;
turn the power strips off when the
equipment is not in use (TVs and
easy low-cost and no-cost ways to save energy
DVDs in standby mode still use
several watts of power).
Lower the thermostat on your hot
water heater to 120°F.
Take short showers instead of
baths.
Wash only full loads of dishes and
clothes.
