The legendary lo-fi band Cleaners from Venus formed in the small town of Wivenhoe, southeast England at
the turn of 1980s by Martin Newell. The man, the myth, but to rock singer and part-time kitchen porter with
a love of sunny 1960s pop music, punk rock and musical comedy. He never cared much for any kind of
musical rule book and broke new ground with music that garnered a cult following and a highly-influential
sound that continues to inspire. These 4 albums are the final chapter in the unveiling of the entire discography from the band, spanning the end of Martin Newell’s long, storied run as the Cleaners from Venus (19851992). Included are Living with Victoria Grey, Number Thirteen and My Back Wages, which Newell considers
a new release as it is finally being released as he originally intended it. The fourth album is a collection of
rarities and unreleased material from the time that My Back Wages was recorded, called Extra Wages.
The beautiful 4xLP box set includes original liners written by Newell himself with unreleased photos, as well
as a 16 pages book of Newell’s poetry. The beautiful CD foldout wallet with booklet includes original liners
written by Newell himself with unreleased photos.

Raw-edged heavy rock, fronted by Lino Ajello’s powerful electric guitars, channeling the dark, jagged energy
of Jimmy Page, Adrian Gurvitz, and Jeff Beck. Il Balletto di Bronzo absorbed their influences (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds), but moved from there into an inspired, hard-edged musical space; the
band’s overwhelming power and great melodies make them irresistible. ‘Un posto’ and ‘Neve Calda’ are
centered around simple but effective guitar riffs. ‘Eh eh ah ah’ starts like a nice mellow ballad, but gets into a
hard blues rock groove. On side two, there’s the seven-minute mammoth heavy grind of ‘Incantesimo’ and
the colossal ‘Missione Sirio 2222,’ almost ten minutes of droning acid rock with whirling guitars and heavy
pounding drums, sandwiched between an acoustic intro and outro. No wonder Nurse With Wound cited Il
Balletto di Bronzo as an influence.

To put it bluntly, Lust For Youth’s International is unrecognizable as a Lust For Youth record on first listen.
Hannes Norrvide’s previous solo albums under the Lust for Youth moniker have been described as “dark,
cold, atonal, tormented, lonely, and lower than lo-fi.” The approach on International has shifted dramatically.
Norrvide’s work has always had pop sensibilities buried deep in the reverb, but the hooks are front and
center on International, and there is nothing lo-fi about it. International is Norrvide’s magnum opus, and with
Fisher’s production and Rahbek’s co-writing skills, the potential this band has always shown has been fully
realized, it is a buoyant synth-pop masterpiece on par with early Depeche Mode.

Anders Parker has a recording of new music coming out June 17th, and it is called There’s a Blue Bird in my
Heart. Released by his new record label, Recorded & Freed, the album of nine distinct tracks was created
in Burlington, Vermont. The initial tracks were all cut live with his band Cloud Badge, before the process
relocated to Athens, Georgia for additional recording and mixing by the legendary David Barbe (Bob Mould,
Drive-by Truckers, Son Volt), and guest appearances by local Athens talent. This is the first release of new
Parker material in over four years. A.P. did not sit idle during the interim, having recorded and released more
than twenty-three tracks with the Woody Guthrie-inspired New Multitudes supergroup that also included
Jay Farrar, Jim James, and Will Johnson. He also released a beautifully lyrical album of music with longtime
ally Kendall Meade called Wild Chorus under the band name, Anders & Kendall. All of these efforts add to
the continued entries in the ledger of his life’s body of work that include his work with Space Needle, Gob
Iron (also with Jay Farrar), five albums recorded under the anonymity of the name Varnaline, five albums
recorded under his name, and a live “field recording” from a Portland, Oregon tour stop in 2005.

Half-handed Cloud’s John Ringhofer identifies Flying Scroll Flight Control’s arrangements with the most
basic building blocks of life, the structures of atoms: mostly empty space and a dense core, around which
thinner layers wind-tiny, slippery, whirring, fly-by electrons, perpetually in motion. The lyrics are primarily
based on the most ancient, foundational, and audacious of Christian texts (possibly early hymns), quoted in
the letters of Paul of Tarsus. The album features a 5-person female choir, manipulated recording tape, fuzz

Flying Fantasy
As an accomplished 12-string guitarist/composer, Alexander Turnquist was naturally alarmed when the
ulnar nerve in his left hand seized up in 2013, but after a surgical procedure he gratefully started the process of learning to play guitar again. His recovery was cut short when not long after the surgery he was
hospitalized with meningitis. Though his recovery is ongoing, and he continues to struggle with a weakened
immune system and memory loss, he was inspired to soldier on, rather than being deterred by his physical
struggles.Turnquist’s latest full-length Flying Fantasy confirms the idea that out of great hardship can come
great art. As he wrote the material for the new album it became clear that his sensitivity had sharpened,
his empathy magnified, and his sense of purpose blossomed. The unfortunate circumstances he endured
ostensibly forced his metamorphosis from a remarkable guitar player to a truly great composer. Much like
the butterflies that adorn the album cover, he seems to have changed form and taken flight.

Angelorum is an exotic rock and roll record. Vibraphones and flutes dance intermittently with Apollo’s raspy
cry on the big-beated track “White Lines.” And what could easily be a soft bossanova rallies to anthemic
levels on the single “Spinnin.” It’s a big, bold, new sound for the artist, but Apollo is not all shout and swagger. The record’s title track, “Angelorum” was just a sign he saw painted on the side of a building in Mexico.
The singer recalls, “I liked the sound of it. Later our piano player told me what it meant and i couldn’t have
been more elated.” Of course Apollo does not mention what it means. It’s a lot of strange sentiment, and it
fits. “Angelorum” is indicative of Apollo’s distinctive talent, and locks in that fine line of fiery anthems and
cool, cool delivery.

Living With Victoria Grey
The late summer of 1985 was a rather pleasant one for Martin Newell. Now past 30, and sick of being at
odds with the London music industry, he decided to give up - not music exactly - but any attempt to make
a living from it. Though Newell and his new musical partner Giles Smith continued to casually record, there
was no intent to continue on. Yet it was due to this sporadic period of recording that the Cleaners came to,
quite non-chalantely, release the cassette “Living With Victoria Grey”.
After sending the nearly unmarked cassette to a few fanzines and selling the cassettes for $2 apiece, Newell once again forgot about music. The “Living With Victoria Grey” cassette was all but forgotten, the only
master copy having been lost. It wasn’t until almost 10 years later that Newell was approached by a man he’d never met before who said , “You sent
me this, many years ago and told me to look after it. I did. I thought you’d like it back now.”. It was the master copy of “Living With Victoria Grey”. Over
10 years after it’s initial, quiet release, Captured Tracks are pleased to present “Living With Victoria Grey” on vinyl for the first time as part of the final
installment of the Cleaners from Venus collection.

What we find in “Number Thirteen” is a transitional period from Newell. Intended as a demo, the cassette
received positive feedback, but ultimately led no where. At 37 years old, Martin Newell reflected upon the
almost two decades of hard work and musical activity which had led him to this point. One morning he got
up and began to coolly put his instruments away. He turned his small upstairs music studio into a room for
books and writing. Newell soon found renowned with his poetry and writing, penning a semi-regular column
for London’s Independent, appearing on many TV and radio programs and publishing several collections.
Finally, in autumn of 1992, through another series of connections and coincidences, he was asked if he
would like to make a solo album, with none other than XTC’s Andy Partridge in the producer’s chair.

Considered the “last ever” Cleaners From Venus release, “My Back Wages” is comprised primarily of songs
written in 1992 while Martin Newell was quarantined with the Chicken Pox. While some songs made it onto
Newell’s “The Greatest Living Englishman”, many fell into obscurity, never to be released.
That is until some 8 years later when long time Cleaners supporters JAR Music Germany, a small DIY label,
released a collection entitled “My Back Wages”. Newell claims to have had no knowledge of the release, but
the punning title of the album has his paw prints all over it.
This version of My Back Wages as issued by Captured Tracks, therefore, is Martin Newell’s own ‘producers cut’ of oddities, out-takes
and ‘orphan songs’.

Formed as a solo project in 2009 by songwriter Hollie Fullbrook, the band now includes bassist Cass Basil and drummer Alexander Freer. While continuing to be based in their native New Zealand, Tiny Ruins has
spent much of the past three years touring throughout Australia, Europe & the US, opening for artists such
as Beach House, Joanna Newsom, Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, The Handsome Family and Calexico.
Lyrically ambiguous and poignant, the songs roughly follow in the traditions of folk and blues that Fullbrook
has drawn on in the past, engaging moods both hopeful and world-weary. Brightly Painted One follows a
journey, cyclical and whole, with tones falling between dream pop and folk-blues. The arrangements are
lush and fully-realised, with the warm fuzz of hammond and rhodes keyboards, subtle string parts and
electric guitar jangles and thrums. Brightly Painted One was recorded with engineer Tom Healy over several months in an underground warren of passageways and small rooms known as ‘The Lab’, in Auckland, the band’s hometown.
