Super Sky’s structural systems utilize tubular or
I-beam aluminum extrusions. Framing is available
in a variety of standard or custom shapes and
sizes, in aluminum alloys to meet your project
aesthetic and structural requirements. Super Sky’s
standard glazing system consists of retainers and
snap-on caps, securing the glass to the sloping
rafters. A high performance silicone wet seal is
then applied. Horizontal joints are flush glazed,
ensuring water tightness.
Total flush glazing is Super Sky’s proprietary
4-sided silicone system, with concealed mechanical
fasteners, resulting in no exposed caps.
Super Sky’s advanced CAD/CAM system saves
customers time and money. Direct connection
to our CNC machining center enables programmers to cut and prepare skylight components
to precise dimensions, while digitally storing the
information.

Several innovations were required on this
unique project to fit fifty vaulted strip skylights on this special curved roof design.
The most interesting innovation centered
around the need for a connection system
with adjustment to fit 1,000 unique anchor
conditions. The wooden roof structure is
a combination of curved and twisted
glue-lam arches, steel tees, and cables that
form the compound curve shape.
The unique characteristics of this system
allowed Super Sky to deliver frames and
glass 100% pre-fabricated. The adjustable
supports allowed the skylight frames to
proceed as planned with no reworked
components required to suit the as built
dimensions of the complex roof.

Hurricane/Impact
& Blast Systems
Super Sky currently holds four Miami-Dade County
NOA’s (Notice of Acceptance) for impact rated skylight systems. These products are required not only in
Miami-Dade County, Florida, but in most of Florida,
and virtually every coastal area from Texas to Maine,
when a skylight is part of the building envelope.
Impact rated products are required in states governed
by the IBC, when a project is within one mile of the
coast and the design wind speed is 110 mph or higher.
VIZCAYA MUSEUM & GARDENS
20
They are also required in any area where the wind speed
is 120 mph or higher, even if the job is not within one
mile of the coast.
A skylight located higher than 30 feet above grade
would require a small missile impact rated system. If the
skylight is located 30 feet or below in elevation, then
large missile impact requirements would apply.

Blast Resistant Systems
Blast resistant design requirements have
become more prevalent in the construction
industry. Although primarily specified for
government and defense sectors, the need for
blast resistant systems extends to public gathering places. Super Sky takes pride in reaching
these challenges by engineering sysems to
meet the various threat level requirements.
Construction of blast compliant systems
consists of highly complex framing and
connections back to the support structure.
Glass thickness is confirmed with level of
threat and is fully capped with secondary
structural sealants.
Super Sky has worked on projects with
a minial threat level to designs requiring
full dynamic glass and frame analysis. Our
engineers utilize current GSA controlled software to work closely with our design team to
accommodate all scenarios.

Repair &
Renovations
Repair
In addition to manufacturing the highest quality
custom skylights and sloped glazing systems, Super Sky
also specializes in renovation and repair of existing
skylights.
Make necessary repairs to existing skylights and
eliminate leaks.
Refurbish Cut out and replace all existing sealant and
recaulk the system. New caps and pressure
bars with gaskets can be provided, for a “like new”
skylight.
Reglaze
Replace the glass in existing skylights due to
seal failure or upgrade to high performance and
laminated safety glazing.
Replace
If the system is old and unsafe, we can offer
efficient solutions to replace the skylight and
possibly value engineer the system design.
Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Hotel
Orlando, Florida
The skylight sits above the main atrium and had significant
leaking problems for many years. The skylight consisted
of acrylic bubbles on a gutter system which was supported
by a steel space frame. In heavy wind storms, some of the
acrylic bubbles had even blown off the building.

The owner wanted to replace the system with a hurricane
compliant, energy efficient skylight that would not
leak. Super Sky provided a custom glass skylight solution
that solved all of the existing problems. This skylight
removal and replacement was able to be accomplished
with minimal disruption of the daily operation of the
atrium space.
Quaker Bridge Mall
Lawrenceville, New Jersey
Like many large shopping malls in the country built in the 1970’s & 1980’s, the roof of the Quaker Bridge Mall had several
original skylights that were originally built using clusters of acrylic barrel vaults separated by stainless steel gutters. These acrylic
barrel vaults were past their serviceable life and in serious need of replacement.
Super Sky was contracted to replace the existing
acrylic vaults with new flat multi-wall polycarbonate sheets, utilizing the existing frames and
gutters. However, upon our initial inspection, it
was clear that this would only solve a portion
of their problems. The stainless steel gutters that
separated the acrylic vaults were obviously
contributing to the water infiltration, evidenced
by the many layers of sealant that had been
applied over the years.
Instead of a simple re-glaze, Super Sky quickly
developed a plan to completely remove the
existing frames and build entirely new skylights
(frames and all) over each cluster, eliminating
the need for the existing gutters altogether. This
plan was executed entirely at night as not to
impact the Mall’s holiday-season operations,
and without any disturbance to the interior
finish work. Most importantly, the expanded
scope was executed with no additional cost to
the owner.

Photovoltaic
Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) generate power
from solar collection surfaces that create savings in electricity
costs, reduce fossil fuel consumption, and emission of ozone
depleting gases. BIPV skylights allow solar power to produce
some of the electricity used in your building, while adding an
architectural interest that tells the world you are committed to
renewable energy and green building.
Super Sky has constructed hundreds of projects incorporating
our high standards of skylight design, construction and
weatherproofing, as well as photovoltaic power generation.
Because of this experience, we can offer a turn-key approach
to your BIPV project.
Due to our years of experience in BIPV, Super Sky worked with
Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to help develop their new category “Building-Integrated Photovoltaic Mounting Systems”
(QHZQ). We are also the first company to have an approved
UL Classified BIPV mounting system. Our UL Classification file
number is E247515.
