Virgínia Rosa Virgínia Rosa is a Brazilian singer that mixes the very best of Brazilian Pop Music and her vocal classical technique. She recreates songs of new and old celebrated composers in renewed versions. It’s a fantastic combination of Brazilian regional rhythms and styles. Her repertoire includes ballads with a touch of the traditional “samba”, “chorinho”, “maxixe” and a blend of the Brazilian beat, full of swing and energy. Virgínia’s live performances are full of emotion and rhythm, seducing the audience song after song. She sings songs of her CDs “Batuque” and “A voz do coração” and from her special projects such as VIRGÍNIA ROSA CANTA CLARA (homage to the Brazilian singer Clara Nunes) and PALAVRA DE MULHER (singing Chico Buarque’s compositions). Great-granddaughter of Indians and daughter of “mineiros”, Virgínia Rosa was born and grew up in São Paulo. Although she has studied classical singing her singing has strong popular roots. This may be the reason why she moves with much ease from samba to reggae or blues. With the Heartbreakers band she used to sing Billie Holiday’s tunes, but she is mainly known as the interpreter of the Brazilian rhythms – “samba”, “maxixe”, “forró”, “chorinho”, “baião” (popular rhythms that originated in the northeastern of Brazil and have become popular all over the country) among other cadenzas. During the 80’s, Virginia Rosa started her professional career singing in a band called “Isca de Polícia”, led by Itamar Assumpção, one of the majors musicians of a strong musical movement that was very successful in São Paulo at the time. She also sang with Ná Ozetti and in the choir of Tetê Espindola’s band. In the mid 80’s she became the solo singer of the “Mexe com Tudo” band, a group whose goal was to sing Brazilian dancing music. She sang with the band for 7 years. “Mexe Com Tudo” gave concerts in France and other European countries in the years of 1989 and 1990. In the early 90’s, Virgínia Rosa started a solo career. Her first CD, “Batuque” (1997) received very good reviews and she was chosen the best new singer of that year. The CD includes songs by Itamar Assumpção, Luiz Gonzaga, Lenine and Chico Science and was also released in the United States. Her second CD, “A Voz do Coração” (A Voice from the Heart) was issued in 2001. It was recorded live and includes songs by Thomas Roth, Chico César, Herbert Vianna, Gilberto Gil, Luiz Melodia. After 2003, Virgínia reached great success as interpreter in special projects such as VIRGÍNIA ROSA CANTA CLARA, singing great hits as well as unknown songs of Clara Nunes (to be realeased in DVD soon) and PALAVRA DE MULHER singing Chico Buarque’s compositions for cinema, musicals and theatre. Now, Virgínia Rosa just released her new CD, “Samba a 2”, which we are sending to you. VIRGÍNIA ROSA
