Say “Hello” to:
Happy Veterans Day!
Rodney Wade,
Army veteran,
insurance agent
Name: Rodney R. Wade.
Occupation: Insurance
agent for Farmers Insurance, since 2005. Before
that, I was in
the Army, retiring in 2003,
after 20 years
of service, as
a sergeant first
class; I was an
Rodney Wade
aircraft electrician initially; and an Army
recruiter for three years;
also a platoon sergeant.
After retirement, I started
as a residential real estate
agent and eventually gravitated towards the insurance
business. It was a good fit.
I like it; definitely; it’s very
fulfilling; I like helping
people recognize and manage their risks. I handle
auto, home, life and business insurance. Business
has been up and down; it
changes with the consumer
market; seems like business is getting better; like
it’s starting to pick back up
again.
Age: 46.
Family: Married to Teresa;
we have two children:
Treyvon, 22, a senior at the
University of Virginia; and
Ryan, 24, at the University of Michigan, studying
Psychology and graduating
next year with his master’s
degree.
Education: Received my
associate’s degree in General Studies from Central
Texas College, Killeen,
Texas; and also received
various professional designations from the insurance
industry.
Neighborhood: Haygood.

and service-disabled youths - can market and promote their
goods and services.
Attendees may network with other business owners and
learn strategies that could propel their enterprises to the next
level, while sharing their companies’ capabilities with

military vehicles from all branches of the armed services
across Hampton Roads. Veterans marching in the parade
represent those who served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Operation Iraqi Freedom
and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
Following the parade, a memorial ceremony will take
place at about 11 a.m. the Tidewater Veterans Memorial,
where there will be a wreath-laying ceremony, a symbolic
salute to veterans and a flyover, featuring aircraft from the
Military Aviation Museum. The Veterans Day Proclamation
will be read by Virginia Beach Mayor William Sessoms,
by Portsmouth Mayor Kenneth Wright and Grand Marshall
Timmons.
Following that ceremony, a special ceremony will be
held at the William L. “Bill” Myers Veterans Memorial Park,
honoring veterans whose names were engraved on memorial
pavers in the last year. A luncheon honoring veterans will be
held at the Double Tree Hotel, next to the convention center.
Cost is $20 a person.
For the fourth year in a row, the city of Virginia Beach
has been selected as a designated regional site for the observance of Veterans Day by the Office of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. The Department of Veterans Affairs’ Veterans
Day National Committee selected the Resort City as one
of more than 64 designated sites nationwide that serve as
a model for community events held in honor of our Navy’s
veterans.
The Hampton Roads Council of Veterans Organizations, along with this year’s co-sponsor, the Marine Corps
League, along with the mayors of Chesapeake, Norfolk,
Portsmouth and Virginia Beach, cordially invite the public
to attend these events.

When move to Virginia Beach: 2005, from Fort Drum, NY.
I had family here; and I was stationed in Newport News, so
I was already familiar with the area. I like Virginia Beach’s
location; you get the best of both worlds here; it’s not like a
small town; but it’s not like a big city either. Town Center;
it gives it that ‘city’ feel. I also like the weather – all four
seasons, without the snow.
Favorite city in the world: Of the places I’ve been to, New
York City.
Dream vacation: Hawaii, never been there.
Favorite comfort food: Probably some pasta with Alfredo

Favorite seafood: Grilled salmon.
