EAGLE’S HIKE – on the wings of the eagle The local mountain in Imst, the Muttekopf, serves as a gateway to the Adlerweg, the largest Tyrolean long-distance hiking route. Whether you opt for the route along the Scharnitzsattel and Anhalterhütte or prefer to go directly across the Hanauer Hütte, you’ll eventually come to this extensive hike through the Tyrol. The best way to start this tour is with an overnight stay at the Muttekopfhütte. Aside from the Adlerweg, there are also connecting links to the long-distance hiking trails E4, E5, the Jakobsweg (Way of St. James), the Lechtaler high-altitude trail and the Via Claudia Augusta. THE „ROSENGARTEN“ GORGE Home to one of the Tyrol’s most precious biotopes, the Rosengarten gorge is situated just a short walk away from the centre of Imst. The Schinderbach winds its way for 1.5 km from the ‘blue grotto’ through the bedrock of Imst’s low mountain terraces to St. John’s church. In doing so, it passes down through 200 m of rock. For geologists, it also reflects millions of years of the earth’s history, but having said that, you don’t have to be a geological expert to marvel at the beauty of the gorge with its abundance of flowers, wildlife and stones. Your most intensive experience will doubtless be the wildly romantic narrow ravine and its wonderful natural phenomena on a guided tour of the geology and plant life at this spot. Guided hiking tour: on Mondays 14.00-17.30, accompanied by our hiking guide, free for guests of the region. Reservations at our offices! MOUNTAIN BIKING & CYCLING Things are looking up for bikers in the Imst holiday region. And the down hills are not so bad, either – not only are the routes breathtaking, they’re breathtakingly beautiful into the bargain. Discover the area with expert guides on half-day or all-day tours which are specially selected to match the condition of the participants. You can hire out bikes and helmets, and we’ll even include an invigorating, refreshing drink in the price. Enjoy biking uphill or down dale – you’ll soon see that riding along the valley trails is equally charming ... mountain bikes, GPS and e-bikes can be hired from local outlets! Secured climbing on rocky faces is one of the most exciting experiences in alpine sports. And the via ferrata in Imst is considered to be one of the most attractive climbing routes – equipped with foot and climbing aids it leads you right into a high-alpine climbing adventure. The start of the via ferrata can be greatly facilitated by taking the Imst cableways to the Alpjoch. From here, continue up the Drischlsteig to the Muttekopfhütte. If only the first section of the lift is operating, set off from the Untermarkter Alm towards the Latschenhütte, and from there head past the Muttekopfhütte to the start. It takes about2 hours to walk. You can sign up for tours accompanied by a mountain guide at the Imst tourist office. WATERFALL VIA FERRATA near Muttekopfhütte: Waterfall fixed rope routes (1,934 m), level of difficulty: B/C; thrilling state-of-the-art fixed rope routes for families, children and beginners right next to Muttekopfhütte. LEITE VIA FERRATA in Nassereith. Sporty, modern and challenging via ferrata in the limestone wall of Tieftal valley. Best season for this via ferrata from May to October, generally accessible all-year-round. HANAUER VIA FERRATA near to Hanauer Hütte. Fantastic via ferratas with long rope bridge and two alternative routes. Hut on a promontory overlooking the valley. OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES Rafting So we’re all in the same boat – and that means a lot of fun. Qualified rafting guides will accompany you along 14 km on the Inn from Imst to Haiming. The tour sets off at a quiet section with plenty of water before the Inn is squeezed through the Imster/Karrer gorge to wind its way down past pine forests, meadows and sandy bays. Foaming breakwaters and waves alternate constantly with quieter sections – this is the premier rafting route in the Alps (from the beginning of May to midOctober). Canyoning ... neither river, mountain nor air… and yet a bit of everything: swim, climb, abseil, slide and jump your way on a voyage of discovery to the lost worlds of wildly romantic gorges (the Rosengarten, Hachle, Kronburg gorges are just some examples) as well as to yourself. A state qualified canyoning guide is on hand for you. Bungee jumping Strong nerves are what are called for on Europe’s highest pedestrian bridge. Emotions run high during a bungee jump from Benni Raich Bridge with quite a drop. While the bungee team puts the TÜV-tested equipment on its protégés, they look way down 94 meters. And then they hear the final command “jump”! – guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience! Pitztal Bungy : Tél. +43 650 6365133, [email protected], www.bungy-pitztal.com Tandem paragliding The same also goes for paragliding – the first step is simple. Because during a tandem flight you not only lift off like a feather, you also don’t need any previous knowledge. Accompanied by a licensed flight operator, you can safely soar to new heights. Airgliders : +43 664 8978691, www.airgliders.at OUTDOOR OPERATORS AREA 47 THE outdoor-highlight in Roppen Europe's biggest adventure playground crowns the outdoor paradise Imst. The best the outdoor world has to offer has been combined in one location. At the high-ropes course of Climbers’ Paradise the brave can balance and climb at a height of 27m, check out what they can on the large climbing wall or compete against time on speed routes. An impressive exit is also possible: the brave can jump into the gigantic pad, swing on the “Megaswing” liana across Ötztal Ache River, observe the AREA 47 from the 350m-long Flying Fox from a bird’s eye perspective. It gets really wet when rafting or kayaking on Ötztal Ache River or Inn River or on Canyoning tours in the wild-romantic gorges of the Ötztal Mountains, which are also a paradise for mountain bikers and mountaineers. AREA 47 features traditional Tyrolean lodges and authentic wooden tipis. Even spending the night there is an experience. It went on to become an important and highly influential trading and travel route in the following centuries. Nowadays it joins up regions, historical periods, people and their cultures, creating a colourful range of impressions and experiences that can still be felt today, for example, on a ride along the Via Claudia Augusta cycling route. The road takes you past an enormous variety of different landscapes from the Danube, the Lechfeld plain and the gentle slopes of the Bavarian through the wildly romantic Alpine valleys of the Tyrol, across the Fern Pass and the Reschen Pass, through the apple orchards and vineyards of South Tyrol (Italy’s Alto Adige) and the Trentino, on past the Val Sugana to the Adriatic. It features two languages, hundreds of dialects, different cultures of eating and drinking, historical towns and picturesque villages as well as hundreds of cultural monuments. www.viaclaudia.org WAY OF ST. JAMES In the Imst holiday region, the ‘Jakobsweg’ (way of St. James) runs from Roppen through Imst to Schönwies before heading to the Arlberg. SOS CHILDREN’S VILLAGE Hermann Gmeiner contributed to a big part of Imst’s past 50 years ago. With a handful of visionary men and women, he laid the foundation for a global idea in “Sonnberg”, a section of Imst: in 1949 the 1st SOS Children’s village in the world was founded. More than 400 SOS Children’s Villages in 132 countries are leading the brilliant relief organization, true to the original motto, “small steps, great hope”, into the new millennium. Today, millions of people support the children’s villages, aided by politicians and businesses and even the oldest rock band in the world, The Rolling Stones, bowed down and gave its first concert in the Tyrolean mountains in celebration of its 50th anniversary. Yet what’s more important is that children are given a chance! www.sos-kinderdorf.at Ubuntu Ubuntu is the SOS-Kinderdorf cultural project. www.ubuntu-imst.at SOS Kinderdorf Hermann-Gmeiner-Straße 6460 Imst +43 5412 66234 http://www.sos-kinderdorf.at [email protected] IMST – A TOWN OF FOUNTAINS There are more than 40 of them in all, of which 18 historical examples have been lovingly restored If the region has something almost in profusion, then it’s water. There are plenty of springs in the surrounding mountains, and far-sighted local planning has enabled man to make use of the water they contain as a source of energy or for the supply of drinking water. The springs, of course, have been here since time immemorial. Although they now serve as embellishments enhancing the appearance of the towns and villages, they once had an important economic and social function. Very few houses were connected to a water supply. So people fetched the precious water they needed for cooking and washing from the nearby spring, or well. This explains why each spring also had a small basin for washing potatoes, etc. The larger troughs were used to water cows and cattle. People entitled to use the wells established special ‘spring communities’ and made sure they were kept clean and in good working order. Of course, the drinking water that gushes out of them today comes straight from the spring! The tourist board also offers guided walks to the historic fountains of Imst. If the region has something almost in profusion, then it’s water. There are plenty of springs in the surrounding mountains, and far-sighted local planning has enabled man to make use of the water they contain as a source of energy or for the supply of drinking water. www.imst.at WEEKLY PROGRAMME * free of charge for guests of the Imst holiday region WITH GUEST CARD MONDAY: Panoramic bus tour - a member of our team tells you everything you need to know about Imst and its neighbouring villages, and has plenty of tips on how you can spend your holiday.
