Poland is a country in Central Europe, bordered by
Germany to the west; the Czech Republic and
Slovakia to the south; Ukraine, Belarus to the east;
and the Baltic Sea and Kaliningrad region
(a Russian part) and Lithuania to the north.
The Podkarpackie Voivodship
The Podkarpackie Voivodship, located in the southeastern extremity of Poland. It comprises an area
of almost 18,000 km2 and has a population of about 2.1
million.
For many centuries this area was a melting pot of cultures,
traditions and religions. Besides Polish and Jewish people the
region was a home for Łemko and Bojko ethnic groups,
Ukrainians, Vlachs and Slovaks.
A great deal of old traditions and rituals have survived until
today and are recalled during various events.
The emblem of the Podkarpackie Voivodship
Our school is located in Rzeszow, the largest town situated
in the south-east Poland. Rzeszów is approximately 100 km
away from Slovakia, and not more than 90 km from the
Ukraine.
Rzeszow is an economic, scientific and cultural centre of
southeastern of Poland, in 1999 Rzeszow became the
capital of the Podkarpackie Province. It is an important
focal point for such industries as: aviation, IT, trade,
construction and service. It is treated to be a dynamically
developing town of young and enterprising people. Subcarpathian Voivodeship is
quite close to Bieszczady Mountains – beautiful, unspoilt, pristine region with
picturesque scenery

The documented history of the city dates back to the
year 1345, when King Casmir the Great granted
Rzeszów city rights. Among the most interesting
monuments are: the 14th century Fara Church; the
City Hall, dating from the 15th century, rebuilt and
extended many times (beautifully renovated in the
years 1993-1996); the 16th century Castle of the
Lubomirski Family; dated from the 17th century: the
Church of the Bernardine Fathers

Market Square
The central square of the Old Town is a Market Square in form of an irregular
quadrilateral with dimensions approximately 100-110m by 50-70m. There is a City
Hall here and a well built in the 17th century situated in the middle of the square.
The view of the present Market Square differs from its initial layout – only three
frontages are furnished with one-or-two floor tenement houses from 15th and 16th
century, which were rebuild during the centuries. Hotels, restaurants, clubs, pubs and
museums are located inside. The tenant
house No. 19 is one of the most
interesting. The pieces of brick-stone
walls and vaults as well as gothic ogival
lintels discovered in the basement are
exposed as a part of the Underground
Tourist Route. They allow us to date the
start of this building’s construction at the
turn of the 15th and 16th century. A stage
next to the City Hall hosts performances
of well-known artists, bands and winners
Pict. 4 It is the town square with the historical well
of Carpathia Festival.
City Hall
The most magnificent building in the Market Square is the City Hall placed at the
corner of the west and north frontage. It was probably build in 1591 by Mikołaj
Spytko Ligęza. After being re-built a few times, its present layout is dated from the
turn of the 19th and 20th century. Pieces of old walls and lintels , as well as cellars

reaching as far as Słowackiego street were discovered in the City Hall basements.
Lubomirski Castle
The construction of the castle was commenced by then owner of Rzeszów, Mikołaj
Spytko Ligęza, at the end of the 16th century. In the second half of the 17th the
Lubomirskis expanded the castle and encircled it with a stone wall with bastions. The
present view of the castle is due to the last redevelopment at the turn of the 19 th and
20th century the castle hosts the Court and The Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Underground Tourist Route - “Rzeszow cellars” -
Discover the legend of Rzeszow’s Market
One of our well-known attractions is the underground tourists
route situated from 0,5 to 10 meters under the market square
and houses. It is a network of underground corridors being
built for years by the inhabitants of
Rzeszow. It served them as shops,
storages and during wars or
cataclysms as a shelter. The low, stable
underground temperature guaranteed
good conditions for storing merchandise, especially food .
Today these secrets beautifully restored prove
resourcefulness, creativity and initiative of the city’s

dwellers. It attracts a lot of people especially during the summer period.

levels
- Length: 369 meters
- Numbers of rooms: 15 corridors, 25 cellars
- Period of originating: 14th-17th century
- Area of the entrance building: 646 m2
There are many attractions and
secrets hidden within the route. You
can find there the relics of medieval
walls, signs of fire, remains of iron
bars and hinges, few hundred’s
years old hand shaped bricks,
hidden passages. All corridors and cellars were
named to reflect their function and town’s history.

Underground storages provided proper temperature for the
groceries. Corridors leading to the well, located on the market

Multimedia fountain
This fountain is located in the center of the
city and is the most recent tourist attraction
in Rzeszów. The fountain consists of 1600
jets that compose a carpet, labyrinth and
screen of water.
That’s the third biggest Multimedia Fountain
in Poland, maybe not as big as the others
but definitely the most technologically
advanced. Some experts even say that,
we can call it the one and only fountain of
its kind in Europe. You can see how the
music dresses up water in sounds and
light that altogether form a colorful
orchestra.
Each Saturday at 21:00 there is a 45-minute show when you can see water, lasers
and hear music composed by Vivaldi, Beethoven, Michael Jackson, Depeche Mode
and U2 transforming into a great show.
The fountain was completed in 2013 and at the total cost was 7 million zlotys
(€1 664 579)
Łańcut Castle
Our region has rich history. One of the well-known sights is Łańcut Castle close to
Rzeszow.
Łańcut Castle is one of the most
beautiful aristocratic residences in
Poland, famous for its excellent

The present castle was built for Stanisław Lubomirski in 1629 - 1642. At that time it
was a modern type of residence, consisting of living quarter with towers at the
corners, surrounded by bastion fortifications
The town founded by King Casimir the
Great, belonged once to the families of
Pilecki, Stadnicki, Lubomirski and
Potocki. Today it is known mainly for the
palace, a top class landmark as well as
the Music Festival which hosts the
leading artists from all over the world.
For many years the aristocratic
residence was a meeting place of
European royalty, politicians and artists. Today the main attraction is the palace
featuring amazing interiors e.g. chambers, ball rooms, theatre , library and sculpture
gallery.
Other places worth seeing include amazing 30-hectare park, orangery and carriage
house with its collection of carriages, the largest in Poland.

Prządki/ Stone Spinners
In the vicinity of Krosno in Czarnorzecko-Strzyżowskim Landscape Park visitors can
see Prządki, huge weathered sandstone
rocks unique for this region of Poland.
The one of a kind shape is explained by a
local legend. It says that the castellan’s
daughters from nearby castle in Odrzykoń
disregarded a holy day by weaving
garments for their fiancés. They were
punished for this by being turned into
stone - becoming the Stone Spinners.
From 1957 Prządki have a status of nature reserve and are the only rock reserve in
south-eastern Poland. The groups of rocks up to 25 meters tall are named: the
Spinner-Mother and the Spinner-Crone, the Chieftain and the Ruffian Madej.
We Cordially invite you to visit our region
