The Marathon Show (hosted by Maniac #1817, Joe Taricani) was first broadcast in June 2010. It’s a one of a
kind show that spot lights the marathon and marathon runners. Maniacs have found a safe haven with this
great show. A few times a week Joe broadcast the show live online, the shows are then made available to
download from iTunes (via Podcast). Each week Joe features a marathoner, and often does shout outs to
marathoners from all over. Another great part of this show is the “runners chat”, in these shows Joe gets

I hope everyone had a great 2011! For me it was an amazing year! I ran 100 races, 44 marathons
and reached 10 stars! I met so many great people and met so many people I had wanted to meet
for a long time. I hope everyone has a lot planned in 2012.
I would like to encourage people to send me photos and race reports. Also if anyone is a personal trainer or physical theropist and would like to

RHETORICAL REVELATIONS AND W(RITES)…

Hiya Prez !!! It’s getting pretty late, but Happy almost New Year PREZ !!!
It’s going to be a great new year, Prezzz, (ya wanta rootbeer with me? I still got a couple lef) cause it’ll be better than the last
one, cause Jiminy Crickets I didunt see you at ALL in 2011, but I saw Roger and Mary and dolphins and I met Mr. Slug and
Rhea and Floyd, so they redeeeemed it a LOT…. but 2012 HAS to be even better cause I’m going to find you too, Yee! …and
I’m going to run with you cause I been PRACKTICIN, you’ll see, Prez, I’m PRACKTICIN, and eating all the right fooods (and
maybe a little ice cream of course but you get what I mean).
I’m glad you didn’t kick me out due to my Lousy Numbers this year… you never do that to anybody cause you’re nice like that, but I’m still mad at myself. After
over-training (not over-marathoning) laaast January, I’m still rehabilitating, doing personal triathlons at the gym like Tony. I’m getting better. Soon I’ll run fast like
Chris, and we’ll be waiting for You at the finish! (Want another rootbeer with me, Prez?)
Reading about your friends is scare-eee sometimes. I have always thought Rick Haase is a pleasant, sane guy. But 300 marathons, in one life? Are we talking
reincarnation here? 300. I own 300 baseball cards. And Angela Waddle Tortorice (careful, Prez, with that middle name, she’s setting you up for a bet), running 9
marathons in 9 days? An incredible accomplishment, on a bicycle, but on Asics? Phew. Very unRev-like. But we do have a lot in common: my record streak is 9
marathons too … but in 9 weeks. Maybe she typo-ed. How would she get out of bed and stand up? And 71 in a year? I did 71 in about 8 years. Maybe she just
left out the “8”. That’s it! She can’t type because she’s the one depleting my rootbeer collection tonight! I must ask her for her autograph… (which will get me the
fingerprints…).
Okay, so we gotta keep up Prez, and so I made me some New Years’ Resolutions:
Jan: finish rehabilitating. No runs until January Something. Then: jog-walk a mile, and Stop. Rest a day, let legamints recover. Rinse and repeat. Add a quartermile every other day. Rev’s getn smarter, Prez!
Feb: Work up to a 10k, ‘cause in March…
Mar: I’m gonna win a 25k, ‘cause in April...
Apr 1: I beat Prez at Washington’s Yaki-makama River Valley Banyon Canyon Marathon, where the Maniacs roam and the antelopes and the dolphins play! I’m
aiming to bring Speedy Maniac Emma of the East and her friend Kathy “Jeter” Martin (set an age-group record in her 1st marathon in 2011 at Chicago), so
we 3 easterners go up against you 3 Wise Men for Dinner and Rootbeers! Rules: total time, using the best 2 times of the team (see, one person on a team
might have a bad day).
May: 5 marathons in May. That’s about right. Check-in to Tacoma, then back east we got Ottawa, Gettysburg, Poconos, Providence, Delaware, New Jersey. Not
quite Crater Lake and Catalina, but peaceful, pretty, and historic.
June: June? June’s my breakout month, Yeebie. Never done a double. It’s time. 4 doubles. A mere maniac warm-up to
July: 30 marathons in 30 days. Doable. Waddleable (just ask her). My maniac prep for reelly coool goals:
August: 100 marathons in 100 days in a month! Nobuddy’s done it yet, but I resurched this tonight, and if you jump back and forth across the international date
line at just the right times… .
September: Qualify for Maniac Hall of Fame under the 99 One-hundred-mile races criteria of yours… and this will be easier than August, ‘cause I only need 99 of
‘em. Then,
Hoctober: Qualify for the Haniac Fall of Mame on all seventyleven continence…
Novem: Run enough miles in one month to go to the moooooon and back… (I’m savin Venus for 2013)…and then mah big finale…
Decembrrrr: …Engle asks meeee….. to be ….……. his new coachhh………..… zzzzzzzz……

Dear Prez,
Hey friend, Happy New Year. Had a good night’s sleep last night. Man, I missed seeing you in 2011, but an over-training injury clobbered my hopes on the year. I
am finally sitting and letting the injury heal, and when I do go back outside, I am going to start slow and short, and build up in tiny measures every other day, so I
can return to something resembling “one-piece.” I overdo, Prez my friend, I overdo. I’m never going to match so many of the incredible accomplishments
maniacs pull off, and I couldn’t pace Pigtails out of an expo.
But thanks to you three leading the way, we all stay welcome in the club. With some judicious training, hopefully old buddy, I’ll see you in Yakima. And maybe by
autumn I’ll be able to post a half-dozen marathons in the autumn again, enjoy our version of this sport again. Meanwhile, thanks for being patient and so nonjudgmental and supportive. You are a great friend.
One of my sincerest hopes for all Maniacs in the New Year harkens back to 2005, when I first began reflecting on this extraordinary club: There are all sorts and
levels of Maniacs and Mini-Maniacs in here. It is tremendously inspiring. While it is great to train towards the brink of our limits, it is also just plain smart to train
and run only to our own genuinely remarkable limits, so to keep the body parts working, that’s the idea, so that the body remains able to transport the mind and
the spirit to the races, where we are together again. Yup, that’s the idea.
