COMMUNICATION & MEDIA STUDIES Communication Source Provides full text for more than 800 titles with content pertaining to communication, linguistics, rhetoric & discourse, speechlanguage pathology, media studies and related fields 1 How to access EBSCOhost Databases 1. Access the Library Homepage at http://library.sunway.edu.my 2 2. Under E-Resources, click on E-Databases. 3. On the E-Databases page, click on alphabet E to go to “E” page for a list of databases. 3 2 4. On the E “page”, click on EBSCOhost. 4 5. Type in your Library User ID and Pin. 5 6 User ID : For students the User ID is the student ID on the student card. For staff the User ID is the serial card number on the verso of the staff card. Pin : By default is 1234. These can be changed later from “My Account”. 6. Click on Login. 7. A list of EBSCOhost databases is displayed. 7 3 If you wish to access a particular database, e.g.: Business Source Complete, click on the name listed. However, if you wish to access more than one database to search, e.g.: Academic Search Complete and Business Source Complete, you need to: a) check the boxes next to the databases, and b) click on the button Continue. b a a 4 Searching EBSCOhost database: Academic Search Complete From the EBSCOhost databases page, click on the name Academic Search Complete. Using Basic Search in Academic Search Complete. 1. Type in search term, e.g.: “natural disaster”. 2. You may also Limit your results by checking the relevant boxes, e.g.: Full Text – Check this box if you want records which carry full-text documents. Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals – Check this box if you are looking for scholarly articles that Have been reviewed. 1 3 2 3. Click on Search. 5 4. A list of records found is displayed. 5. Refine your search results by checking the relevant boxes of these options e.g. Full Text. 6. Click on Show More to see more options for refining your search results. Select options and click on Update. 4 5 6 6 7. To select an item, click on the title. 7 8 8. To read the full-text, click on pdf. 6 9. The detailed record of that title is shown. From the detailed Record, you can: a) Click on PDF Full Text to read the entire article OR b) You can select any of the options available such as Print, Email, Save and etc under Tools. b a c c) Click on Cite and you will see how the chose article reference can be cited in various styles, e.g. Harvard, APA, MLA etc. Using Advanced Search in Academic Search Complete. Advanced Search provides more than one search box to facilitate combined field searches, such as author and title search, title and subject search. 1. From the EBSCOhost databases page, click on the name Academic Search Complete. 1 2. On the screen that follows, click on Advanced Search. 2 7 3. Enter the search term(s) in the boxes. Example: combined author + title search. 4. Type search term e.g.: natural disaster, and select Title. 5. Type search term e.g.: Gasper, and select Author. 6. Click on Search. 4 6 5 7.
