About Richard Mann
Richard Mann was born and raised in the West Virginia hills. He
literally grew up in the woods chasing coonhounds until daylight,
waiting out whitetails perched high in an oak, and canoeing the
New River. He has hunted from the Montana Mountains to the
Green Hills of Africa.
During his military and
law enforcement careers,
Richard obtained numerous
certifications in small arms
instruction. He has trained
military personnel, law
enforcement officers and
civilians in the application
of firearms for defensive,
competitive and recreational
use. Richard won the West
Virginia Governor’s Twenty
Award for law enforcement,
the West Virginia National
Guard State Pistol Competition and earned his Distinguished Medal with pistol.
Badge turned in, Richard is
now a contributing editor for several magazines and the editor of
the 13th Edition of Cartridges of the World. He is the compiling
author of the book, “Rifle Bullets for the Hunter” as well as
“Handgun Training for Personal Protection.”

Installing XS® Sights
Self-Install
Local Gunsmith Install
Some of our sights are simple enough that customers can install
themselves. To help determine if you can do the installation yourself,
we have videos on our website of the installation process for many
of our sight sets.
Installation of most of our sights is fairly simple if you have some
basic shop skills. If you don’t, using a $60-90-120 set of sights and
a $400-500-600+ firearm as your first attempt is not recommended.
If in doubt, get a professional to do it. If your gunsmith has
questions or needs any technical information, we will be happy to
supply it before, during or after the sale. Call our toll-free tech line

Gun Manufacturer Install
Several gun manufacturers’ custom shops such as Kahr® and North
American Arms® offer XS® Sight upgrade installations from their
factories.
XS® Factory Installation Service
Even if you do have a good local gunsmith, the best
ones usually have a large backlog of work, which
is one of the reasons we now offer installation
services. On semiautomatic pistols, all we need
is the slide. On those pistols that don’t require
machining – something like a dovetail – the installation fee is about
$40 + the sights + return S&H. If a dovetail cut or other machine
work is required, those fees begin at $70 + the sights + return
S&H. In most cases, our turnaround time is two weeks (if the sights
requested are in stock), not including shipping time. Answers to

Shooting XS® Ghost-Ring Sights
The bullet’s intended
point of impact
• The shooter’s eye will naturally center the top of the Front Post
in the XS® Ghost-Ring.
• To accomplish this, the shooter must visually focus on the front
sight.
• When the shooter focuses on the front sight, the XS® GhostRing will become a fuzzy ghost-like image.
• Even though the XS® Ghost-Ring is fuzzy, the shooter’s eye still
centers the front sight in the Ghost-Ring.

Zeroing Procedure
At 7 yards, fire a 3-5 round group at the target with the sights
aligned similar to that of shooting a pistol.
Adjust the sights so that the rounds impact where your front sight is
holding on the target.
Once zeroed at 7 yards, move back to 100 and fire 3 rounds at your
target with the 6 o’clock or center hold sight alignment using the
PEEP sight. Adjust your sights accordingly to make sure your rounds
hit where you want them to.
“You start at 7 yards and shoot it like a pistol sight to
get a baseline zero and then confirm it at 100. It will cut
your zero time in half.”
Use the small aperture for
100-yard zero.
Use the notch for 7-yard zero.
