Page 3 Building Blocks Healthy Start Home Visitor The Healthy Start Program provides education and support to pregnant women and families with infants and children through age five. The program is designed to give all children a healthy start in life and help parents enjoy parenthood. Healthy Start is provided free to all parents or grandparents caring for children. The home visitor focuses on comprehensive maternal health care before, during, and after the baby’s birth. The home visitor can assist parents with: parent-child relationships, health care, prevention of child injuries and accidents, child development, training for infant massage, and breastfeeding support. Healthy Start can also provide links to community resources to help families successfully meet the challenges of parenthood. The trained home visitor is a mother who works with the supervision of a registered nurse. With donations from the 2012 Christmas Tree Lane & Auction, we purchased new cribs. Contact Elaine Rupp, 785-625-3257 www.hacc.info [email protected] Loving Touch Infant Massage Infant massage is a wonderful way to begin a lifelong relationship with your child. These interactions “increase pleasurable bio-chemicals in the child’s brain, thereby strengthening neural pathways associated with pleasure and motivation; it also strengthens the parent’s bond with the baby and the baby’s attachment to the parent.” ~Research from the Gail and Joe Robben donated books and school supplies to promote literacy and learning.
