Here is some information about your first day at our Academy:
Academic hour: One academic hour (AH) is 45 minutes.
Registration form
On the first day we ask you to fill out and sign the form to
accept our terms and conditions.
Text book - “Ven”
You can borrow the text book which is used in your class.
We ask you to sign for it and pay a deposit of 20 €. It is
very important that you keep the receipt so we can
return the deposit at the end of your course. If you prefer
you can aswell buy the book for 20€.
Workbook – Libro de ejercicios
If you have signed up for the Intensive 20 or Intensive 30 course the registration fee includes
the cost of the workbook.
Deposit (for students staying in one of our apartments or with a host family)
All students who are staying in one of our apartments have to pay a 50€ deposit. Please fill in

Welcome Breakfast on Monday at 11 p.m.
Every Monday all the students and teachers have a
break together at 11 a.m. We prepare breakfast and
invite you for a free coffee in our cafe. It is a good
opportunity to get to know your classmates and we will
give you information about the leisure activities. If you
have any queries about your stay we will answer your
questions. You can get further information about the
Intensive 30 course at reception.
Information about leisure activities
We will give you all the information you need about the leisure activities during the welcome
breakfast and you will find a weekly information sheet on our notice board in the corridor. For
any further information please ask at the reception desk.

Organised leisure activities.
Leisure activities
With a full programme of optional extra activities our leisure team will ensure that
you enjoy your free time as well as the learning experience. Once a week we
organise: breakfast, an excursion, sports activities, surfing, beach volleyball, film
night, parties, salsa and Flamenco lessons etc.
A minimum number of participants are required for every activity. Some excursions
and activities involve extra costs for transport or entrance tickets. The school can
also organise different sports, dance or other activities upon request.
PROGRAMME:
Every Monday at 11.00: Breakfast together on the terrace. Here you have the
opportunity to get to know your classmates, students from other groups and also
enjoy the sun and the impressive view of El Teide, Spain’s highest mountain.
Botanical Garden in Puerto de la Cruz: weekly
visit.
Beach-Volleyball - once a week we meet at
the Playa Jardín in Puerto de la Cruz and have
lots of fun.
Salsa lessons - we meet at a salsa-school
accross from the Botanical Garden. You learn
the basic Salsa steps and have a lot of laughs.
The Flamenco lessons take place once a week at
the school. You get to know the basic steps and feel
really Spanish!
Free surf lessons at the Martiánez Beach,
Puerto de la Cruz. Weather permitting, one of
the local professional surfers will teach you the
skills to enjoy this exciting sport.
Friday night is party night: Once a month
one of our teachers meets the students from all
the groups at a different pub or bar so they can
get to know each other, have some drinks and
get in the party mood. Ask at reception for
the “Bar of the week”.
Weekends: Excursions - These change every
week: The FU Academy is in charge of these
excursions so we organise a car or bus and
someone from the school to accompany you.

Las Cañadas del Teide - World Heritage Site - The National Park with its
dramatic volcanic landscape.
El Barranco del Infierno in the south - a walk along the Devil’s Gorge.
Santa Cruz and Playa de las Teresitas – the Island’s capital city and a trip to
its lovely sandy beach.
Visits to different historic towns including La Laguna, Icod de los Vinos,
Garachico, and La Orotava.
Punta Teno – wild landscape and the most westerly point of the island.
If you like adventure sports our staff can help you to find out more information about the
activities available.
FU International Academy transfer service
The school offers a two-way transfer service between the airport and your
accommodation. When you arrive in Puerto de la Cruz you will be met by a member
of staff from the Academy who will show you your accommodation and explain how
to get to the school on Monday morning and give you any other information you
may need.
Local bus service
Alternatively you can take the local TITSA bus (guagua, pronounced “whawha” in Canarian).
There is a regular service from both the North and South Airports. See times below but
please check on the website before leaving in case of last minute changes:

N.B. The bus drivers will not accept €50.00 notes, they accept €20, €10 or €5 notes or coins.
BONO-BUS (Discount card) The Bono-Bus is valid on all regular TITSA buses and routes,
providing a 50% discount. A BONO card can be bought at the airport shop “La Alpisa”
(second shop on the right past Burger King) which shows the green BONO BUS
logo. They cost 30 or 12 Euros and can also be bought in TITSA bus stations and some shops
and kiosks. The Bono-Bus is valid for 1 year.
Important: The Bono-Bus can be used by more than one person. If there is not
enough money left on the Bono-Bus for the last journey, you can pay the difference
in cash but not with another Bono-Bus.

Arrival at the South Airport – Reina Sofía
You can go directly to Puerto de la Cruz with bus no. 343 or you can take bus no. 111 to Santa
Cruz and then change to bus no. 102 or 103 to Puerto de la Cruz.

at 22:50 and 01:30 depend on the scheduled flights.
Arrival at the North Airport – Los Rodeos
From here the bus goes directly to Puerto de la Cruz coming from Santa Cruz. The bus arrives
at Los Rodeos approximately 20-30 minutes after leaving Santa Cruz, depending on the time of
day. Get off the bus at the last stop, Estación de Guagua (bus station).
The bus waits 10-15 mins. at the airport and then goes on to Puerto de la Cruz.

Transport: Free mini-train from the Plaza Reyes Católicos (McDonalds) to Loro
Parque, every 20 minutes. Loro Parque is a paradise of tropical gardens and a new
zoo concept with many attractions. The Loro Parque Foundation is dedicated to
animal conservation. It houses the largest collection of parrots in the world and
covers an area of 120,000 square metres. Arrive early and see all the shows:
dolphins, parrots, sea-lions, and the magnificent new Orcas (killer whales) from
Seaworld. Also not to be missed is the refrigerated penguinarium, the Orchid
House, and the best Aquarium in Europe where sharks swim over the longest
underwater glass tunnel in the world (18.5 m), tiger island, the gorilla jungle, bat
cave, Gambian market and Thai village – There’s so much to see – take some water
with you and wear comfortable shoes!
LAGO MARTIÁNEZ - One of the major features
of Puerto de la Cruz is the Lago de Martiánez
complex. This swimming pool area was designed
in 1977 by the famous artist and architect from
Lanzarote, César Manrique (1919-1992). There
are eight seawater swimming pools, a spa pool
and areas especially for children. The Lago
Martiánez is so large that it never gets very
crowded. You can hire sun beds and parasols.
There are several bars and restaurants so you
can relax and enjoy the whole day there.
BOTANICAL GARDEN CALLE Retama, 2 - 38400 Puerto de la Cruz. Summer
opening hours: (daily). 9:00 to 19:00 (1st April - 30th September)Winter : 9:00 to
18:00 (1st October - 31st March). Closed: 1st January, Good Friday and 25th of

The La Orotava Acclimatisation Garden was
created by a Royal Decree from Carlos III, in
1788. There was a need to establish plant species
from the tropics before replanting them in Spain
and northern Europe. Alonso de Nava y Grimón,
VI Marquis de Villanueva del Prado took the
decision to create the gardens and in 1790 the
plans were drawn up. Nicolás Eduardo, an
architect from La Laguna, designed 35 new
planting areas which were finished by 1792.
Today is home to some magnificent tropical trees and interesting plants from
around the world.
Orchid Garden

in Tenerife. It is in the grounds of a private house dating from 1730. The owners
open their delightful garden to the public. It contains the largest collection of
orchids on the island, the largest and oldest Dragon tree in Puerto de la Cruz and
reminders of famous explorers and visitors e.g. the German botanist and explorer
Alexander von Humboldt and Agatha Christie, the British crime writer. It has a café
and a shop that specialises in local products. It also has an exhibition of botanical
paintings on loan from Kew Gardens in London.

Régulo is about 100 metres from the Plaza del Charco in an 18th century Canarian house. It is
one of the best restaurants in Puerto de la Cruz with affordable prices. Opening hours are from
