What is Hypnosis?
In the Gallery
Tuesday, January 27th, 7:00 PM
Say the word hypnosis and it conjures up images of a
shadowy figure entrancing people to be under a spell. From
that image alone, you might be surprised to find that hypnosis
isn’t magical or mystical....and that it actually helps people with
regular self-improvement goals.
With the help of some willing audience participants, learn
what hypnosis is, how it works and the many ways you can
use it. Tina Pineiro, your facilitator and guide is a hypnotist,
instructor and presenter who has been entrancing clients and
other willing subjects for many years. Let Tina guide you into
a relaxed state and take you on a journey of the mind. Please
register.

Long Island Nights by photographer
Melissa Johnides.
Artist’s Reception
Saturday,
January 10th,
3 - 4:30 PM
Approximately four years
ago Melissa Johnides began
shooting her Long Island
Nights pieces. The images
were born from a desire
to capture and share the
intimate connection she
feels with these late night
locales. These photographs
are of areas most familiar
as summer day spots which
become magical when captured during the off-season
and under the solitude of
the night sky. This talented
photographer has won
several photography awards including ‘Best Color Photograph’
and ‘People’s Choice’ for her Long Island Nights images from
galleries and arts councils, including FotoFoto Gallery in Huntington and BACCA in Babylon. In 2012 she was chosen for a
collaborative show promoting the Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program, and is always looking for new opportunities to tie her artwork into nature conservation awareness.
Join her on Saturday, January 10th from 3:00 - 4:30 PM for an
opening reception.

Coming in February!
Our Distinguished Speakers Series
Where are They Now?
Wednesday, February 25th, 7:00 PM
The Harborfields Public Library’s Young Adult Department
is launching a new speaker series where former Harborfields
High School alumni will share their post-graduation career
paths to the community at-large, with a specific focus on how a
Harborfields education played a formative role in later development.
For its inaugural evening, the library is proud to welcome
Jeremy Gorelick, class of 1997, who is the World Bank’s
expert on affordable housing in sub-Saharan Africa in his role
as the Managing Director of the Affordable Housing Institute’s
Financial Markets division, among other accomplishments.
Most recently, he co-wrote the UN Capital Development
Fund’s global policy document on municipal finance and
served as the City of Dakar’s Financial Advisor on a program supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as it
prepared to launch one of Africa’s first municipal bonds. He
strongly believes in the power of education, as demonstrated
by six consecutive years of teaching classes on innovations
in international finance at the Johns Hopkins University and
enjoys coming back to Long Island to play with the Huntington
Community Band over the summer when possible.
Alumni interested in speaking should contact the Young
Adult Desk.
The iPad has changed the way people use computers. You
can read books, take pictures and videos, play music, watch
movies, and more. In addition, there are over 1.2 million apps
you can download, most of which are free. Join us for a demonstration of this revolutionary device.

(Please note, the Library opens at 10 AM on Fridays.)
AARP Tax-Aide is a free
tax counseling and preparation
service, helping low and middleincome taxpayers, with special
attention to those ages 60 and
older. AARP Tax Aide volunteers
cannot prepare returns that include rental property, military
income, alternative minimum tax, or those with many stock
transactions. Please note that some tax information, especially from
brokerage firms, may not be sent until the end of February.
AARP Tax-Aide is administered by the AARP Foundation,
in cooperation with the IRS. Electronic filing (e*filing) is
included. Taxpayers who e*file receive refunds more rapidly. Please bring your current tax records and copies
of your last filed federal and state tax returns. We also
have a complete checklist of all the items you should
bring. If it is to be a joint tax return both people must
be present and must bring a photo ID and a Social Security card or another form of Social Security verification. Please call the Reference Desk for an appointment.
A yarn collection bin for Care to Knit and coat and food collection bins for the Helping Hand Rescue Mission are in the
Library Lobby. Men’s coats are desperately needed.
