tall ships. They
will entertain you with traditional nautical and Irish favorites
as well as songs (and tunes) they have composed themselves. Featured musicians include: Mary Nagin on fiddle
and vocals; Patrick O’Rourke on guitar, bodhran, and vocals;
John Corr on banjo, guitar, tin whistle, bodhran, spoons, and
vocals; and Larry Moser on accordion, concertina, six and
twelve-string guitars, hammered dulcimer, and vocals. This
program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Free

Foods to Travel By:
The Tastes and Sights of Ireland
In an encore performance, The Precisions who topped the
national record charts in 1962 with their haunting arrangement of the George and Ira Gershwin composition, Someone
To Watch Over Me, (Golden Crest Records) will entertain
us again, in what promises to be a standing room only
performance featuring some of their original recordings and
paying tribute to the best of rock and roll music spanning
three decades. The Precisions will perform with one of New
York’s renowned female artists, Catherine Santaniello, and
musician/vocalists Bob Falco, Rob Falco, Al Frazia, John
Garbedian and Harold Wilson. This program is sponsored by
the Friends of the Library. Free tickets are available at the

Information Meeting
The Library is Moving Forward!
Please pardon our appearance while
we renovate the Young Adult Room and
the surrounding area. When the construction is finished, our community will
be able to enjoy an exciting and newly
enlarged Young Adult Room. The renovation will also expand the Quiet Study
space to accommodate a new Training
Room for some of our computer and technology programs.
The next Friends of the Library meeting will be on

Trustees presently held by Joseph Friedlander. This position

Celebrating Women’s History Month
Madame Justice:
Women of the Supreme Court

Since President Reagan’s appointment of Sandra Day
O’Connor in 1981, three other women have been nominated
to serve on the Highest Court in the land. In this lecture,
Harborfields Public Library and the League of Women Voters, have invited James Coll, Adjunct Professor of American
and Constitutional History at Hofstra University and Nassau
Community College to discuss their lives, and some of the
important decisions–and dissents–that have been part of
their continuing legacy. Please register.
Gustav Klimt:
The Good, The Bad and The Beautiful
Monday, March 21st, 2:00 PM
Known as the “painter of women,” Gustav Klimt chose
his subjects from the wealthy section of Viennese society.
Most of these women were Jewish Austrians and Hungarians. They were his lovers, models, muses and cherished
companions and confidantes. He is hailed for developing
an individual style of Viennese art nouveau that progressed
to expressionism. Join art lecturer Louise Cella Caruso for
an inside look at this turn of the 20th Century artist and his

other products (calendars, mugs, mouse pads, etc.) that you

Crafty Teens
6-Week “New” SAT Prep Course
Chess Mates
For students in grades 9 through 12
Mondays, March 7th, 14th, 21st and April 4th, 11th &
18th, 6:45 – 8:45 PM
If you plan to take the New SAT this spring, this is the
course for you. Experienced high school instructors will
prepare you by reinforcing specific skills tested in the exam.
Important test-taking strategies and practice questions will
be presented. In person registration only at the Young Adult
Desk. Each student will receive a copy of McGraw Hill’s SAT
2016 by Christopher Black. There is a $95.00 fee payable by
cash or check made payable to Harborfields Library for this
program.
5-Hour Pre-Licensing Class

Volunteers will assist younger children to use their imagination to create some cool crafts. Earn 1 hour of community service. Space is limited to four volunteers.

Teens Connect: Holiday Project

Join us for a seasonal Teens Connect project. We will
be creating holiday placemats for the Meals on Wheels
Program at the Huntington Senior Adult Day Care Center.
Have fun creating this seasonal craft just in time for the

It’s Only Puppy Love!
The 5-hour pre-licensing class is required by the NY State
Department of Motor Vehicles for all students who would like
to schedule a road test. The fee for this class is $45.00 (cash
only, and exact change is appreciated.) The class will be
taught by an instructor from a local driving school and is open
to anyone ages 16 and up. You must bring your NY State
Learner’s Permit to class. In person registration is required at
the Young Adult Desk.
Students in grades 7 through 12 help brighten a dog’s
day making dog treats from scratch. You will use cookie
cutters to make pet-friendly shapes that will be donated to
dogs in need of a little TLC, while earning one hour of community service. Please register.

Annual Meeting, Trustee Election
and Budget Vote
Tuesday, April 5th, 2016, 3:00 - 9:00 PM
The Annual Meeting of the Harborfields Public Library will
be held on Tuesday, April 5th at 2:30 PM in the Library. The
Budget Vote and Trustee Election will be held immediately
following from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
Absentee ballot applications are available at the
Harborfields Public Library Reference Desk on or after February 5th, 2016. Such applications must be received by the
Library Director at least seven (7) days before the election if
the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the
election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.
Upon approval of the application, an absentee ballot will be
issued. All absentee ballots must be received at the Library
by 5 PM on the day of the election in order to be counted.
Persons designated by the Suffolk County Board of Elections as “permanently disabled” pursuant to provisions of the
election law will automatically receive an absentee ballot and
need not apply. The Library’s Budget Information Meeting
will be held on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2016 at 7:00 PM at
the Library.
In addition to the vote on the proposed operating budget,
there will be an election for the position on the Library Board
of Trustees presently held by Joseph Friedlander. This
position has a five‑year term of office, expiring on June 30th,
2021.
In order to run for election for this position, these procedures must be followed:
1. Candidates for the trustee positions must be residents
of the Harborfields School District and may only be nominated by petition, which shall be directed to the Clerk of the
School District.
2. Petitions must be signed by at least 25 qualified voters
of the School District and shall state the residence of each
signer, as well as the name and residence of the candidate.
3. The petition must describe the specific vacancy on the
Library Board for which the candidate is seeking nomination,
including the length of the term of office and the name of the
last incumbent.
4. Each petition shall be filed with the Clerk of the School
District no later than 5:00 PM on Monday, March 7th, 2016.

Public Library Reference Desk, beginning Friday, February
5th, 2016.
