the Jester
A Musical Salute
to Danny Kaye
Sunday, October 18th,
2:30 PM
Danny Kaye, the proverbial
Court Jester, left a legacy of
laughter through memorable
performances on
stage, screen and
television and
brought out the child
in all of us. Multitalented performer
Bob Spiotto pulls
out all the stops
in this 90-minute tour-de-farce tribute to Danny Kaye with
musical direction and accompaniment by Peter A. Pece. You
may remember Bob Spiotto’s performance in his “Shades
of Grey” tribute to Joel Grey a few years ago, which ended
with a standing ovation (for this energetic and entertaining
performer). This program is sponsored by the Friends of the
Library. Free tickets are available at the Circulation Desk.
Need Tech Help?
Book A Librarian!
Cynthia Grimm explores the world of lone, both inside
and outside oneself. The photographs in the exhibit
cover a 20-year span, depicting landscapes both new
and old, in a way she hopes will bring the viewer in to
explore what usually goes unseen. Her “lone house”
paintings evoke a Dr. Seussian whimsy of color and light,
and the silliness of isolation.
Harborfields Public Library cardholders can
book a one-on-one, 45-minute technology
training session with Reference Librarian Brian
Adams. You should have a clear goal of what you would like
to learn during your training session, such as how to:
•Download eBooks or audiobooks to a device.
•Set up an email account.
•Set up a Facebook account.
•Learn to use Library databases for research.
•Use the Library Catalog from home to reserve
and renew materials.
Librarians are instructors, not tech support, and cannot troubleshoot or fix malfunctioning laptops, devices or
software. Sessions are available at various times during the
week. For more information, or to schedule an appointment,
please call Brian Adams at 757- 4200, ext. 120.

Putting Your Garden to Bed
Haunted Hotels of the Catskills
Master Gardener and owner of Home Organic Gardening
Service, Dylan Licopoli, will be leading this workshop on how to
properly prepare your vegetable garden for the winter so that it
is ready to go in the spring. Taking the appropriate steps this fall
will improve the health and structure of the soil, add necessary
nutrients for springtime planting, help prevent weeds from establishing themselves, and protect plants which winter-over. Topics
will include late season plantings, cover crops, composting,
mulching and cultivating. Question and answer session will follow lecture. Please register.
During the last century the rich and middle classes boarded
steamships and the Hudson River Railroad, and headed for the
elegant palaces in the Catskills. When Prohibition hit in 1917,
the Catskills became a popular playground for gangsters and
bootleggers. The secluded woods and lakes then became a
convenient place to dispose of bodies. In this slide presentation
Monica Randall will review the great hotels and luxury resorts of
the past century and visit the haunting ruins that remain today.
Please register.

The Writer’s Imagination
An Introductory Writing Workshop

their imagination and individual skills. Writing in itself is not difficult—writing well is the challenge! Space is limited, registration
