Directions: Take Rt. 93 (S.E. Expressway) or Rt. 2 to Rt. 128. Take I-95
South (Providence) - Third exit from "128" is Exit 10 (Marked Coney
Street, Sharon/Walpole). Take a left to Sharon Center. Cross busy intersection and take immediate right after the intersection. Pass the high school.
When you come to the Lake Massapoag there is a rotary. Go half way
around the rotary and bear to the right. Keep on the lake side (follow the
lake). Bear right after the Sharon Community Center gate. Take a right on
Morse St. (small side street). Continue on Morse St. about one quarter mile
and take a right onto La~eview St. (about 100ft.). You will see the Camp
Gannett sign on the right (just before you reach the lake). Distance: 29
miles (S.E. X-Way) or 36 miles (Rt. 2).
Veterans' Memorial update
In response to the phone calls I have been getting asking about why I didn't
put their relative on the veterans memorial-! didn't have any input into
what went on the veterans' memorial. It was the City of BostOn's call. Ifyou
feel that a relative should be on the memorial, call the Veterans' Department
at Boston's City Hall and ask for Tom Mattarazzo. Have proof that whomever you are advocating for served and died in one of the wars.·

West End Museum fundraiser a success
On January 29 the first drawing
ofthe West End Museum fundraiser
was held. About 50 pe()ple showed
up for coffee and assorted refreshments. It was a mini-reunion.
Here are the winners.

The $200 door prize went back
into the kitty because the person
was not in attendance at the drawing.

End for 20 years until I got married.

My life was wonderful growing up. The Charles River to swim

Hi Folks;
I just finished reading The West
Ender Vol. #21 and it was great!!
I lived on McLean Court, and
went to St. Joseph's School in the
40's, and baby sat 2 kid's - Phil
and Marilyn at 27 Eaton St. for 25
cents an hour.
Our bedroom looked over· the
back of the Blackstone School and
one summer at age 11 years I came
down with chicken pox. Ma gave
me a quilt and a pillow and I slept
out each hot summer night on the
fire escape.
The .Italian family I baby sat for
gave me spaghetti and meatballs
left over when Lbaby sat, (the Pisano Family) and as I was Polish, I
never had ariy Italian food at home.
To this day I love Italian food!
The nuns gave me the curtains
to wash and I had to sweep the "alley" and disinfect with bleach each
week the alley, as it smelled.

2005 is ending on a sour note
for' me. I am still reeling in disbelief over the glaring omissions on
the Veterans Memorial plaque. The
World War II casualty list alone was
more extensive than that.
Ask any surviving member of
the Armstrong Club of the West
End House what happened to Tony
Almeida on 20 Aprill945. Ask any
memberofthe WestEndHousewhat
happened to all-star Jimmy Maggio
in 1944. Ask anyone from Brighton
Street what happened to Teddy Spe-
ro, U.S. Navy. Ask Ronnnie, Joe and
Tony Pinto what happene to paratrooper Kelly Korozinsky during the
Battle of the Bulge in E~ope in late
44. He was married to their aunt. I
grew up with these guys. This was
during my era.
The Korean War was another era
though I was still on active duty in
the Navy. I am much older than the
Korean War veterans and I do not
know anything about West End Ko- ,
