Commencing From 29th April, 2013 to 3rd May, 2013 at 6 venues: Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan Mehta School,
K.G. Marg, New Delhi, Mount Abu Public School, Rohini and UVNAC premises, Sector-22, Dwarka. Inaugural
Function and skit Competitions at: India Islamic and cultural centre on 29th April, 2013.Folk Dance
competitions at Indira Gandhi Arts and cultural Centre on 1st May, 2013. Grand Finale at Kamini
Auditorium on 3rd May, 2013
Back Ground and Rationale of having Hum Kishore Festival:
Hum Kishore Festival is the annual Brand festival for the adolescents, to showcase their
talents and hone their competitive edge. It is a five – daylong event held towards the
end of April every year. It draws a footfall of more than 70,000 students and adults from
Delhi and NCR. Started in 2008 with just 8 schools it has snowballed to become the
largest festival of its kind in Delhi NCR for the adolescent group. This cultural feast of
magnanimous festival is organized every year by Urivi Vikram Charitable Trust. Urivi
Vikram Charitable Trust (UVCT), a National level NGO, has been striving for the last
21years to empower adolescents and thereby, make best out of the much-talked-about
‘demographic dividend of India – a country with adolescents constituting 22.3% of the
total population UVCT’S endeavors are well recognized by both the governmental
(including the Planning Commission of India) and International organizations. Dr A P J
Abdul Kalam, Honorable Former President of India, showed his keen solidarity and
support for the organization’s activities and goals and visited UVCT on October 9th,
2008.
This year, the Mt. Abu Public School, Sector-5, Rohini and the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan
Mehta School, K.G.Marg, were our co-host and were the Zonal Centers for competition,
besides the Urivi Vikram National Centre for Adolescents in Sector 22, Dwarka, New
Delhi . Even though every year it is difficult to raise funds for this mega event, but the
organization is committed and motivated to garner support from all the quarters be it
PSUs like BHEL, REC, NBCC, or Deutsure Bank and Government Sector like Directorate
of family Welfare or Delhi State AIDS Control Society (DSACS)who have supported us in
this endeavor .BHELs contribution under their CSR initiatives as a platinum Sponsor
has really helped us to have event of such a magnitude. This year the event has attracted
major sponsors and had extensive audio –visual media coverage. The team of Hum
Kishore Festival also comprised of of student volunteers who worked to promote
creativity and intellectualism.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
•
About 100 schools from not only Delhi but also from other NCR townships participated.
•
The competitions were held at 6 venues for 5 days.
•
Over 70,000 footfalls at 6 Venues.
•
This year, we had included ‘Children with special needs’ in the competition.
•
Over 2,000 children participated in 15 events.
•
Over 100 people volunteered the 5 day Festival.
•
45 judges of national repute judged the 15 events in the 5 day festival.
•
15 trophies rolled out.
6th HUM KISHORE FESTIVAL OVERVIEW AND MAIN OBJECTIVES
•
Celebrate the importance of Holistic development of children.
•
Allow children to showcase their talents and hone their competitive edge by participating
in extracurricular activities.
•
Encouraging Gen Next into socially responsible citizens.
•
Encouraging adults, teens and children an interest and love in our cultural diversity by
providing quality events.
•
This festival promotes creativity and intellectualism
•
By having people of national repute as judges of national fame in multiple venues,
children get a platform to interact with them and gain confidence.
•
Promote lifelong learning and raising awareness of the Adolescent Centre, UVNAC
and its role in the Youths life.
The competitions were held in 15 different fields, such as Painting, folk dance, Ad- jingles,
Indian classic music, Indian classical dance, Skits, Debate, Elocution, Essay-writing, Folk dance,
‘Rangoli’ skits and debates revolving around contemporary and relevant social themes. Both
public and government schools and NGOs have competed on the same stage. Besides healthy
participation in co-curricular activities, HKF helped evolve our Gen Next into socially responsible
citizens. This year was very special; we had the participation of numerous stalwarts in the
cultural arena. A number of celebrated names like Fareed Hasan, the finalist of SARA GAMA Hero
Honda Awards, National Design Editor, Hindustan Times, Dr. Sujit and many more were Judges
for the competitions .We also had privilege of having Sahara Samay and Dwarka Parichay as our
media sponsors.

Competitions
The 6th Hum kishore festival participations are contingent across the schools of Delhi and NCR.
Competitions cover all the genres of art - Dramatics, Literary arts, Fine arts, Music, Dance, Visual
arts, Folk art. This year we had well known personalities associated with this youth festival.
Finalists of the dance competition were judged by Leena Malakar Vij and Vani Raj mohan both
Kathak dancers of repute. The finalists of the music event Geet mala were judged by FAREED
HASAN and one of the finalist of HERO HONDA SAREGAMAPA (SINGING SUPER STAR) ZEE TV and
he was the first classically trained contestant ever participated in a reality show, DALER MEHDI
called him a Kohinoor diamond. Second judge for geetmala is Dr. Sujeet, phd music, he is a
composer and swar anant and has composed the theme IPL song for Sahara India. The judges for
the classical music were Akash puri and Jagmohan: Vocalists of repute.
Fared Hassan , the young musical sensation of Gen x sang couple of songs on this event. Also seen are folk dancers
The event Ad-Mad jingles was judged by Rajesh Prothi, editor of Communications World (19962000) and has also worked for publications such as Business India, Observer of Business &
Politics and Financial Express and Rohit Sharma, with over 13 Years of Rich Experience across
Various Facets of Advertising, Network Planning, Operations, Exhibitions & Events, currently
working with Giraffe Advertising & Marketing Private Limited
The Theme for the Skit completion,” I am Beautiful as I am “was given by Tripurari Sharma of
NSD. Two theater persons from NSD Mr. Manish Saini and Ms. Kirandeep Sharma were judges for
this event. The Skit witnessed an overwhelming response from audience .

For children proficient at Speaking and expressing their views, events like Debate were held
giving them the opportunity to compete with the best. We Argue debate was judges by Dr.Pankaj
Bhan ,Associate professor , Delhi University and Kritika: Manager Detuseur Bank, Management
Graduate with a sound background of debating at national levels. The elocution contest was
judged by DC west Sh. Garg and Dr. Bhan.
Artist OHO- Painting on an ivory sheet (On spot poster making), was a special event with a
special theme was BHEL-Touching every Indian Home. This event was judged by the
communication division of BHEL and Ex GM –BHEL, Mr. Ashwani Kumar.

Rangoli art, and we create (Best out of waste)was judged by Ashtosh Sapru National EditorDesign Section of Hindustan times and MS Naquvi and P. K. Dutt known artists.

Laughter challenge was judged by Sudha Singh, Ashwani kumar, Anil Dhar
Inaugural Function:
MLA Mukesh Sharma, CLP spokes person, and parliamentary Secretary to Chief Minister Delhi
govt was the chief guest on the occasion and he inaugurated the inaugural session. The guest of
the honour on this occasion was Sh. H. R. Krishnan, Director BHEL

Lauding the working of the NGO for the last two decades, the MLA congratulated the UVCT
chairman Dr U N B Rao, former Commissioner of Delhi Police for being honest and dedication
towards the society especially the children and women. The inaugural session began with the
brief outline about this Festival given by CEO, UVCT, Manorama Bakshi. This was followed by the
welcome address given by the Chairman UVCT, Dr. U.N. B. Rao, I. P. S. He said that it is moral
duty of each one of us to train and empower our children and work towards the complete
holistic development of the children. Mr. Krishnan, Director, HR, BHEl said that their full team
had visited UVCT centers and after getting satisfied about the working of UVCT, BHEL supported
them for this venture. He said that it gives him immense pleasure to note that Urivi Vikram
Charitable trust is laying great efforts in strengthening adolescents by finding ways and means to
transform them into an Asset of Human Resources, empowering the generation next - by
providing Counselling/Career Guidance and extending Life Skills Education, Vocational Skills etc.
Sh. Mukesh Sharma, MLA lauded the support of BHEL in reaching out to communities and
expressed his desire that other PSUs should also follow the same path. He said that this is an
exemplary initiative taken by BHEL. On this occasion Sh. S. Rao, Additional GM and Sh. V.k.
Sharma, Gm, Health, Safety and CSR were also present along with his team. Smt. Chaya Rao Later
distributed the mementos to the chief guest and the dignitaries.

Grand Finale : The Grand finale of 6th Hum kishore festival in Kamani auditorium in the national
capital. Smt. Krishna Tirath, Hon’ble Minister for Women & Child Development, GOI, was the
Chief Guest. The Guests of Honour was (1) Shri Vineet Joshi, IAS, Chairman, Central board of
school education (CBSE). Dr. U. N. B. Rao, chairperson of the Trust while welcoming the guests
said that Smt Tiraths blessings have always been there for the trust. He said that trust main aim
is to do their best in changing the communities. He said our core aim of He said that the trust is
functioning in six centers in Delhi and 5 states namely Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana,
Karnataka, and Maharashtra besides in USA.
Speaking at the occasion, Smt. Tirath said that the children are the future of the country, and
there is a need to invest in their social and economic well being. She further added that the
responsibility for ensuring their wellbeing rests with the society, community and the families as
much as it lies with the leaders. She stated that the Government of India has consistently made
efforts to improve the status of women and children in the country. Lauding the working of the
URIVI NGO for the last two decades, Smt Tirath congratulated UVCT chairman, Dr U N B Rao,
former Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police for relentlessly working towards the betterment of
society especially the children and women. She also spoke about the relevance of the Hum
kishore festival and said that such activities are very important in the overall development of the
children.

and the co-hosts Ms. Jyoti Arora, Prinicple Mtu. Abu, Rohini and BVB School trophy was taken by
Ms. Madaan.

Mr. Vineet Joshi, Chairman and Secretary of CBSE said that his department is involved deeply in
the school reforms, that includes major initiatives Continuous and Comprehensive Education,
replacing marks with grades, replacing the Board examination with school based assessment and
the introduction of Monitoring and Mentoring scheme for implementation of CCE in the right
spirit. He lauded these initiatives and said that these kinds of initiatives are imperative and viable
under CCE. Attractive Rolling Trophies were awarded to Schools and medals/mementos for
’runner-ups’ by Honrable Minister, Smt. Tirath and Ms. Urivi Chaya, Vice chairperson, UVCT.

Attendance
Thousands of adults, teens and children celebrated the power of holistic development
and cultural diversity. There were simultaneous programs occurring on six venues for 5
days.
GRATITUDE TO OUR FESTIVAL SPONSORS
The HKF Festival - the 5 daylong mega event, is entirely reliant on sponsorships, grants,
and other donations. This financial support helps to cover the many expenses
associated with such a large event. These expenses include: Prize monies, trophies, IEC
materials, Prizes and gifts in form of Books, Certificates, Banners, Hiring Venue charges,
Media management, food and beverages for the children, facilities and equipment such
as tents, generators and signage’s, security, printing expenses and refreshments for the
more than 100 volunteers to name a few. The 6th HKF Festival was supported mainly by
BHEL as Platinum Sponsor and it also attracted National Buildings Construction
Corporation (NBCC), Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC), Directorate of
Family Welfare, Govt. of Delhi and DSACS as event sponsors.
The next 7TH HUM KISHORE Festival will be held APRIL
28TH, 2014 TO MAY 2nd, 2014.
