Kelley, Lee to play football at
Coffeyville Community College
Two Marion County High
School football players signed
letters of intent on National
Signing Day, February 6, with
both signing with the same
college.
DeQueszman Kelley and Luther
Lee were surrounded by friends
and family in the Red Zone
Student Center as they made their
future plans a reality by signing
to attend college and play football
at Coffeyville Community
College in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Coffeyville was one win away
from the Junior College Playoffs
last year.
Coach Mike Swaney told
the gathered crowd, “You will
find numerous kids who play at
Kansas community colleges who
go on to play at four year schools.
Because of its central location,
these young men could be going
on to bigger four year universities
in a couple of years.”
Coach Swaney went on to
emphasize the importance of
continued persistence in athletics
as well as academics.
DeQueszman Kelley has
dominated Region 4A for the
past four years as a defensive
lineman, while Luther Lee will
be filling the role of defensive
back for the Coffeyville Red
Ravens.
Another interesting note
is that Trey Carter, a former
Marion County High player and
current Georgia Military College
offensive lineman, signed with
Louisiana Tech earlier on the
morning of February 6.

Schley County High has six
players headed for college ball
By LINDA ADAMS
Six Schley County High
School students are receiving
scholarships to play football at
various colleges and universities,
including the first Wildcat to sign
with a Division I team.
Colby Crawford, wide receiver,
will be going to Drake University,
a selective private university in
Des Moines, Iowa.
“Colby is a perfect example
of what can be achieved with
the application of the work ethic
and determination,” said Coach
Josh Kemp. “He battled injuries
and missed nearly the entire
season, but he will be the first
athlete in school to receive a D1
scholarship.”
Brandon Thomaston plays
as a tight end and will go to
Berry College in Mt. Berry,
Ga. He is the president of the
FCA (Fellowship of Christian
Athletics) at Schley County High
School.
Jack Peevy, quarterback, will
be attending the University of the
Cumberlands in Williamsburg,
Kentucky.
“He is a big, strong, talented
quarterback who is a natural
leader,” said Coach Kemp. “He
plans to get early playing time in
Cumberlands’ explosive spread
offense.”
Dexter Mason, lineman, will
go to the University of Pikeville
in Pikeville, Kentucky.
“Dexter plays plays the game
with great passion and emotion,” noted Coach Kemp. “The
coaches at Pikeville are not sure
whether they want him as a
defensive end or as an offensive
lineman.”
Thad Sims will go to
Independence Community
College in Kansas. Thad is
a 6’2” 260 pound defensive
lineman who was not able to
play at SCHS this past season,
but Coach Kemp says his athletic
ability should give him the chance
to land at the Division I level.
Jay Sanford, linebacker, will go
to LaGrange College.
“Jay was the heart and soul
of the Wildcat defense this past
season,” said Coach Kemp. “He
is a very instinctive player with
tremendous tenacity.”
In addition to the students who
signed with specific colleges,
Jon Thompson, defensive back,
is undecided at this point as to
where he will attend school.
Albany State, Tuskegee, and
Valdosta State are some of his
options.
