SIGN UP FOR THE BEST SUMMER EVER!
The Y is giving kids their best summer ever through a day camp experience with more activities to help
them learn and master skills, make friends and feel welcome.
Through the Y’s day camp program, kids participate in fun and educational activities that will help them:
• Learn and master skills that help them realize their passions, talents and potential;
• Build relationships with new friends and staff role models adding to their well being;
• Develop a sense of belonging, so they feel safe, welcome and free to express their individuality.
There’s nothing like the Y!
WELL-TRAINED STAFF: We take your child’s safety seriously. Our counselors, camp staff
and lifeguards complete over 30 hours of pre-camp training including CPR, First Aid, AED and
Child Abuse Prevention. We conduct background checks and drug screenings on all camp staff and
employees. Our counselors also learn child development best practices, as well as techniques to
encourage all campers to be inclusive and celebrate our differences.
TRADITION AND VALUES: The YMCA invented “day camp” to bring enriching experiences
to children in local communities. With more than 20 camping seasons to build on, this year is
sure to be the best summer ever! The focus of summer camp will be fostering of friendships,
accomplishments and belonging through age-appropriate enrichment activities in indoor and
outdoor settings, keeping kids active, engaged and having fun!
SUPPORT OF FAMILY: We strive to offer camp options that fit every family’s busy summer
calendars. With full summer, weekly and daily rates, we are sure to be able to provide support
for the full-time working parent, or those just looking to incorporate some fun into their child’s
summer!
COMMUNITY REPUTATION: At the Y, you’re not just a member of a facility; you’re part of
a cause with a shared commitment to nurture the potential of youth, improve health and wellbeing, give back and support our neighbors. YMCA members enjoy special pricing on programs and
receive priority registration.

CAMP SUPERVISION POLICY
The Door County YMCA is not able to provide 1:1
supervision of any child in our camp programs. Normal state
licensing ratios are implemented and range from 1:10 to
1:15 depending on ages and activities. If your child requires
more supervision, it will be the parent’s responsibility to
inform the YMCA and provide that service for your child.
Assisting adults are permitted to accompany children in our
camps at no additional cost. Contact the camp director to
make arrangements before your child arrives at camp.
SWIMMING POLICY
Summer fun includes swimming in our tremendous aquatic
facilities or local beaches! Please note that most of our
Camp Compass programs include instructional and/or
recreational swim time, as a part of the curriculum. For
instructional swim programs, a pre- and post- season
assessment will be sent home for you to see your campers’
progress.

School is out, and it is time to say hello to summer with new friends at summer camp. Week one focuses on getting
to know each other, exploring the camp area and becoming familiar with the camp experience.
Go further into summer fun with an island theme and Hawaiian games like musical beach towel and beach ball
bonanza. Other highlights include temporary tattoos, pineapple pops, and Hawaiian musical instruments.
During American Pride week campers participate in activities that celebrate our country, land and cultures.
Activities and games include whiffle ball, four square, banana/blueberry kabobs, and community clean up.
All aboard for Creation Station! This week revolves around expressing oneself through art in mediums such as
clay, paper-mache, watercolor, and chalk. Other art projects include tie-dying, creating yarn bowls and making
friendship bracelets using Rainbow Looms.
Splash and explore the wonders of water this week by creating a regatta boat to race against fellow campers.
Campers will also delve into splash painting, conduct a water taste test and play on the super slip and slide.
The wacky wonders of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) flesh out this week where campers
create their own slime, design a vessel for an egg drop experiment, build a catapult and blast off a rocket.
Campers will be putting their hands to work this week, learning how helping others makes a difference in the
community. From donating food to sharing smiles, campers and the Door community will reap the benefits of these
small acts of kindness.
The natural splendor of the Door Peninsula provides a great locale to live and play. Campers will learn how
nature can take care of us, and how we can return the favor by supporting our environment.
With a week full of games, campers will focus on having fun while developing sportsmanship and learning how to be
a team player. Games like tag and Ultimate Frisbee will bring out the athlete in everyone.
Campers will celebrate the end of summer with Camp Compass spirit! Daily themes will bring out camper’s craziest
hairdos to their best pajamas, providing opportunities to reflect on the commonality and the originality within the
camp community.

LEADERS
IN
TRAINING
STURGEON BAY & NORTHERN DOOR
ENTERING GRADE 7 AND OLDER
The LIT (Leaders in Training) program is a
leadership development and mentoring program.
This training program will provide an opportunity
for youth that are too old for our camps to
give back to the program by assisting our adult
counselors with camp. The goal of this program
is to provide participants with opportunities
to improve their leadership skills and to be an
example of the YMCA four core values (honesty,
caring, respect, and responsibility). In addition to
working on leadership, the LIT program develops
skills needed to deal effectively with groups of
children, organization, safety awareness, and
motivation. Participants are expected to commit to a set schedule (or adequate communication
with their supervisor if unable to attend), participate fully in camp activities, and to demonstrate
positive role modeling at all times.
Applicants for this program will need to fully complete the applications and attend the mandatory
orientation. Applications can be found online at DoorCountyYMCA.org, or pick up at the Lansing
Avenue Center, or the YMCA program centers.

also commence their first of two sailing lessons with the Ephraim Yacht Club (EYC).
Week 3: June 29 – July 3 Red, White & Blue
Campers will create Independence Day themed crafts throughout the week, as well as head to the Sports
Complex for baseball and other All-American games. A trip to The Ridges will round out campers’ knowledge
about the nature in our own backyard.

With the Door County Folk Festival in town, campers will get an inside look at the festival with a tour, as
well as learn a traditional folk dance. A performance in Baileys Harbor will enable campers to show off their
newfound folk spirit.

Campers will enjoy a picnic at everyone’s favorite place – The Farm. The animals at this living museum are sure
to bring joy and laughter to this educational experience. To cool off from the heat of the summer sun, this
week will also feature an ice cream social. Campers will hit the water for their second sailing lesson with EYC.
Week 10: August 17 – 21 Summer’s End
