As the new Superintendent of the Rancocas Valley Regional High School District, I take great pride in saying that as we look toward the year ahead, you will see a number of very positive things happening here. Every school year provides a fresh beginning, and we are very excited about the upcoming year. The high school experience is a valuable time for everyone – students, faculty, administration, parents/guardians. The high school years create memories that will last a lifetime. The Rancocas Valley support staff, faculty, and administration are committed to providing a positive, well-rounded, experience with unlimited opportunities, offered in a safe, nurturing environment. We think the tightly knit, caring community of Rancocas Valley enhances the experience so students feel comfortable taking advantage of the available options. HIGH SCHOOL their involvement while they were at Rancocas Valley. Activities, programs, sports and clubs not only help provide the ultimate RV experience, but assist students in developing such life skills as teamwork, leadership, and the ability to work through adversity. Many of our groups and clubs volunteer in the community, which helps our students learn to value the commitment to service and develop as functioning members of society. I have a challenge to all RV students: get involved in something different this year. Enhance your time at Rancocas Valley by meeting new people and accepting new challenges. Being RV’s Superintendent is a new challenge for me, let’s find a new challenge for you! Please feel free to contact me or stop me on campus to talk. My door always is open and I look forward to getting to know everyone in the RV Community. The program at Rancocas Valley is the ultimate total school experience including academic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities. Rigorous academics during the school day coupled with athletics, clubs, and activities that extend after school, create a more complete education for our students. Good luck and enjoy the 2015-2016 school year! This activity calendar is a handy tool for Rancocas Valley families. The calendar highlights the many options and opportunities for student involvement. We hope parents and guardians will support their child’s participation in their selected activities. Our alumni tell us over and over, that they cherish the memories of Dr. Chris Heilig Superintendent ABOUT OUR SCHOOL 520 Jacksonville Road, Mount Holly, New Jersey 08060 Telephone: 267-0830 • Fax: 265-9204 MISSION: To build a community of empowered learners who value Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Diversity and Excellence. Parent and Community Activities The students, staff and administration of Rancocas Valley Regional High School benefit greatly from the active participation of the entire community including parents, alumni, civic and service organizations, and businesses from throughout the region. Many programs that have been initiated over the past 10 years, including Robotics, RV Foundation and the Parent Advisory Committee (formerly the School and Community Advisory Committee), would not have been possible without an active corps of volunteers from all walks of life. THE PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE Rancocas Valley Regional’s Parent Advisory Committee, formerly the School and Community Committee, has been active in a wide range of activities over the past several years. The group is comprised of community representatives, RV staff, parents of students - including eighth grade parents from the five sending districts, and the superintendent. The Parent Advisory Committee is a Parent Teachers Association (PTA) with a twist. As an integral part of the district’s Design 2000 Strategic Plan, the group focuses on activities that benefit students and foster a positive interaction with the entire school community. The group encourages parents to stay involved in their children’s lives throughout high school, although their roles are somewhat different than at the elementary and middle school levels. Since its inception, the group has worked with the district to develop a pool of chaperones for class trips and socials, established a mentoring committee, contributed to the district’s newsletter, volunteered to work with teachers on a community survey and spearheaded the formation of the RV Foundation and Alumni Association. Interested in being a part of this committee? Join us on the third Wednesday of every month in room C228 at 7:00pm beginning in October. PROJECT GRADUATION One of the most significant accomplishments of the Rancocas Valley Community is the annual Project Graduation, a safe alternative to parties and trips to the shore following the graduation ceremony. Project Graduation includes a midnight cruise on a privately chartered yacht in the New York harbor, complete with dining, dancing to music provided by DJs, a mock casino and other activities. Graduates return to RV the next morning for a festive breakfast served by their parents. The event is one of the highlights of graduation. The RV community and volunteer parents coordinate many fundraising activities throughout the school year to help make Project Graduation possible. The Mr. RV Pageant as well as basket auction, craft fair, pie sales, and seasonal flower sales are just a few of the fundraisers. Without the generous support from many local businesses along with the community at large, this highly successful event would not be possible. See monthly activities throughout the calendar for details on when and where events and fundraisers will be held. Senior parents are encouraged and invited to attend Project Graduation meetings held at 7 pm the second Monday of each month. RANCOCAS VALLEY EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION ...ensuring opportunity and excellence for every Rancocas Valley Regional High School student In October 1998 the RV Board of Education endorsed the establishment of an educational foundation to help ensure opportunity and excellence for every student. The foundation is comprised of citizens from the five sending districts and alumni of the high school. Its formation also meets a primary goal of the district’s strategic plan and is the newest component of ongoing community and parent involvement programs. Trustees of the foundation made a commitment to donate their time and expertise to develop fundraising campaigns that range from the “tried and true” to the “never been tried before.” The foundation is an autonomous, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation separate and distinct from the board of education. Tax-deductible gifts can be made to the foundation in the form of cash contributions, bequests, insurance policies, memorials and tributes. The Rancocas Valley Regional Educational Foundation is another significant step in the school and community’s pursuit of educational excellence and high achievement. In addition to providing funding sources, the foundation encourages communication and the exchange of ideas between the school and the communities we serve. Additional funding and new ideas may, in turn, foster innovative solutions to the challenges facing public education today. RV ALUMNI ASSOCIATION The Rancocas Valley Educational Association has endorsed a new RV Alumni Association. Under the guidelines and by laws of the Educational Foundation, the RV Alumni Association kicked off with a membership drive starting with the class of 2007. The website is the focal point of the association. Information about reunions, alumni achievements, remembrances, E-newsletters, and alumni events can be found on the site. The site is secure; your email is not released to anyone. There are thousands of alumni right here in our communities. Since the unveiling of the site, over 2800 alumni have registered and more are registering every day. ALL Alumni are encouraged to visit www.RVALUMNI.ORG and reach out to old friends and keep the traditions and memories of RV alive forever.
