Feb/March 2013
Yes!!!! This awesome Southern Baptist Deaf church in Houston, Texas is sending out 10 adults who will
be on a tour throughout the midwest this Spring! It is their 2nd annual 18-day mission tour, and we
will have the privilege of hosting them! This is what their leader, John Wunsch writes:
"Woodhaven Baptist Deaf Church is continuing to keep our mission team busy and God has so
many great plans for our people. From April 4th to April 21st, "Woodhaven on MISSION! Team"
will be embarking on a mission tour that travels through the Central and Midwest part of the
U.S. including Oklahoma, Missouri, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas. We will perform 7 drama
concerts and share God’s Word and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our presence will certainly
touch many lives and give us the opportunity for outreach to many people. The programs will
each last one hour and have powerful songs, skits and testimonies. We are sending 10 members
of the church as part of this very exciting mission outreach experience. Woodhaven Baptist
Deaf church has been going on mission trips for over 89 years! God is so good to Woodhaven and
to everyone!"
The troupe should arrive in our area the afternoon of April 11th. Our Deaf people will be taking them
to the Old Chicago Restaurant to meet with an "ASL Chat" group of ASL students and Deaf people.
There they will meet the folks and perform for about 30 minutes. Fun!!! Perhaps on Friday, they will
travel to Colorado Springs, and on Sunday, April 14th our day will be filled with blessings: 8:30
AM Deaf Missionary Prayer Time, 9 AM Sunday School taught by Woodhaven people, 10:30 AM Deaf
Worship Service led by the Woodhaven Mission Troupe, and then we'll have an awesome covered dish
lunch for everyone! We hope you will plan to attend, and bring your friends!
EBBC Deaf Christmas Party Weekend
WOW! The EBBC Deaf Ministry had the most incredible Christmas Party Weekend! We
hope you were one of the blessed individuals who was able to attend one or all of our
events. Our Deaf Ministry was able to visit people on Friday afternoon after our guest
evangelist, Kevin Clark, arrived in Denver.
Saturday, over 110 people came to the Deaf
Christmas Party. We enjoyed wonderful
hors d'oeuvres, seeing old friends, and
making new friends. After a wonderful
time in the fellowship hall, the kids headed
upstairs for a fabulous Children's Program.
They were entertained by Elfie, Kevin Clark,
and Jingles, the clown.
The adults headed to the sanctuary to enjoy the
beautiful music provided by Deaf artist, Mandy
Harvey. What a wonderful testimony of how
God is using Mandy through her singing! Kevin
Clark then taught us from the Bible about
"Finding the Perfect Gift". Kevin used masks,
drama, and costumes to share with us about
God's perfect and free gift of salvation through
Jesus Christ. Wasn't Kevin Clark amazing?? He
is so gifted by God in telling Bible stories so
that we can all understand God's Word clearly.
We praise the Lord that one Deaf woman
accepted Christ as her Savior after the service.
Page 2
Sunday morning continued with Kevin teaching our Sunday School class about "The Wise
Man and the Foolish Man" who built houses on rock and sand. Then 40 people attended
our Deaf worship service. Kevin taught about "God Became Human, Why"?
After the worship service one man re-dedicated his
life to Christ. The following Wednesday night,
another Deaf man decided he wanted to give his
life TOTALLY to the Lord, also. We still are seeing
people asking questions, as the Holy Spirit worked
through Kevin during the weekend to clearly explain
the Gospel.
It was a wonderful weekend that we will remember, and praise God for all He did. If you
were not able to join us this year, we hope you can come on December 7, 2013!

Let's Have fun Activities
Would anyone be interested in exciting activities this year? We have tons of ideas which
include no cost and some cost. The game night has no cost, so perhaps we could do that
every month. We will try to have one activity per month or every two months. If you know
of any ideas, let Annie Kraft know. She is our new recreation director
([email protected]). We will provide transportation if needed.
Pizza party, Denver Zoo, Aquarium, Water World, picnic in the mountains, Carousel of
Happiness, bowling, out to eat, Butterfly Pavilion, Hammond Candy Factory, and such
more!
Missionary Prayer Time
Do you know what D.A.G. means? It is the
Southern Baptist Deaf Affinity Group.
The D.A.G. includes all of the missionaries
working around the world with Deaf
people. On Sunday mornings at 8:30 AM we
learn about what God is doing around the
world with our missionaries. Missionaries
send us information about people being
saved, people who are sick, people that are
baptized. It is wonderful to see how God
is working in people's lives. We have
missionaries in many different countries.
Colombia, Russia, Czech Republic, China,
Hungary, Africa, and many more countries.
Come join us on Sunday mornings from
8:30 - 9 AM to learn about the
missionaries, where they live, and to pray
for them. We have a lot of fun!

Home Bible Study
It's Party Time!
What a wonderful group of people we have attending Home Bible Study on Wednesday
nights at 6:30 PM at the Legacy Assisted Living Facility, Nellie Blackman's home.
We often celebrate birthdays, and rejoice over blessings
from the Lord. Each week one of our fabulous teachers guides
us through a chapter of our Topical Bible Study book. Right
now we are studying about what the Word of God teaches a
bout the church. Next we will be studying what the Word of
God teaches about the last days on earth.
Oh, it is celebration time! Before our Christmas break, we had 50 squares filled up on
our homework fish. That meant that our people were faithful to complete their homework
every week, so we decided to have a celebration party! On Wednesday, February 6th,
we'll be having a Mexican Fiesta! Everyone is invited - young, old, Deaf, hearing, Bible
study participant, or visitor. Don't eat dinner at home, because we'll be serving:
a Mexican meal, Mexican pop, a salad, dessert,
and lots of fun!
We need to know how many of you will be coming to our fiesta. Please email Barb Coffan
([email protected]) before February 3rd, if you can make it. Remember, our "class"
meets from 6:30 sharp - 8 PM at the Legacy Assisted Living Community - 225 Waneka
Parkway, Lafayette, 80026. See you there!
It's Easy to Understand the Bible in A.S.L.
Some Deaf people do not understand the Bible because it may be too hard to read. It is written in
English, and English is not our first language. American Sign Language is our language! Now there
is a Bible for us!
"The Deaf Bible" is designed for those of us who have a difficult time reading English. The entire
New Testament and parts of the Old Testament are now ready for you to view and understand.
There is a free, full version app to download onto your I-Phone, I-pad, I-touch and Android. Wi-Fi
is required for streaming. English Standard Version is also available. You can find it
at http://www.bible.is/ASL.

Prayers and Praises
Psalms 95:6, "Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our
Maker!"
The Deaf Ministry at East Boulder Baptist Church has a mighty group of prayer warriors!
Many prayers have been answered as a result of the constant prayer and praise line. Please
send your prayer needs and praise reports to: [email protected]. Your prayer needs

FREE A.S.L. COURSE
A 9-week "Beginning A.S.L." course will be taught at East Boulder Baptist Church, March 3, 10,
17, 24, April 7, 14, 21, 28, and May 5th. The classes will be held in the Fellowship Hall, from
noon - 1:30 PM. Students age 16 and up are welcome to join. Everyone is invited from the
church and community, and members of the Deaf congregation are welcome to come, and meet
new people and help out if needed.
The classes will be taught by Traci Heffernan, MS, CCC-A. She has taken many ASL classes
and graduated with her master's degree from Gallaudet (the University for Deaf People in
Washington D.C.) in 1999. She is currently working on getting her interpreting certification.
Everyone is welcome to join the class. It is helpful to come with a friend, co-worker, or family
member so that you will have someone to practice with, or maybe you will make some friends at
the class and you can form your own study group.
You will be required to attend 90% of the classes, complete all homework, and take weekly
quizzes. You will also be required to participate in at least 6 Deaf events or Deaf classes. The
more you ingrain yourself in the Deaf community, the easier it is to learn! The goals of the class
are: to be able to have basic conversations with individuals in the Deaf community, to
understand Deaf culture, and to learn ASL sentence structure (which is not the same as
English). As with learning any foreign language it will be challenging, but well worth it.
You will be informed of the required text book when you register for the class. To register,
contact Barb Coffan at
(720) 339-5331, or [email protected], before Sunday, February 17, 2013.
5th Annual Deaf Marriage Conference
Does your marriage need a "pick-me-up?" Why not consider attending the Deaf Marriage
Conference at the Lifeway Conference Center in Ridgecrest, North Carolina, April 12 - 14,
2013? The theme this year is, "Love worth Fighting For, and A Life worth Living". The keynote
speakers are: Scott and Beryl Corey, and Dr. Rick McClain. The cost to register a couple is
$100, and then you'll need to pay for lodging and food. For more information about this awesome
conference, please contact Job Ayantola - [email protected], or (860)866-1325 VP.
Our Wonderful Sunday School Class
Every Sunday morning there is a Deaf Sunday School class at our church. The teacher teaches us
about the Bible - the Word of God. In February, we will be studying in the Old Testament Amos, Hosea, and Jonah. In March, we will start studying in the New Testament - I and II
Timothy. Wow, it is so wonderful to learn what God wants us to do to make Him happy...and to
make our lives full of joy! Please join us at 9 AM every Sunday in the Fellowship Hall.

Deaf New Beginnings Course to Start
Would you like to memorize all of the books of the Bible, so that you can find them faster when a
reference verse is given? Maybe you'd like to learn how to let the Holy Spirit control your life, or
memorize some verses to help you through some tough times in your life. Barb Coffan will be
teaching a 10-week course that will address these issues and many more. The classes will be held
on Feb. 10, 17, 24, March 3, 10, 17, 31, April 7, 28, and May 5th. (We will finish just before
Mother's Day!)
Perhaps you took this course long ago, but you'd like to take it again. No problem. You already
know about the amount of homework that needs to be done each day, and the weekly quizzes that
you will be taking. ; ) Our text books will be the Bible and the Survival Kit for New Christians.
The classes will be held in a small room in the Fellowship Hall, from 9:30 - 10:15 on Sundays. To
register for this course, please contact Barb Coffan ([email protected]) before Wed, February
6th. You'll be glad you did!

Deaf Ministry Director's Report
I would like to thank all of you who served as leaders in the Deaf Ministry in 2012. Everyone did
a wonderful job cooperating with each other, and leading faithfully. Also, our members were so
faithful in their participation in Deaf Missionary Prayer Time, Sunday school classes, worship
services, and Wednesday evening Bible study classes!
Now, we look forward to the new year of 2013. At our recent Annual Deaf Ministry Planning
Meeting in January, we praised the Lord that all 28 positions that the Lord led us to list on the
board, were filled in just a few minutes. Gonji and I jumped for joy and sang praises to the lord
when we saw all positions had leaders' names next to them! We will all pray that our new leaders
will serve the Lord with all their hearts, souls, and strength.
In Philippians 3:13, Paul wrote, "This one thing I do....forgetting what is behind, and straining
toward what is ahead. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me
heavenward in Christ Jesus." This year, let us all work together as a unified body of Christ to
reach our heavenly goal!
God Bless All of You,
Jim Redmond
Interpreters
In case you've been wondering who those new faces are standing in the front of the church, the
following will be helpful to you:
* Kim Swink is a home-schooling mom, and wife of Darrell. She has three beautiful girls, two of
whom are Deaf - Laura and Becky. Kim interpreted for her girls and other Deaf people at their
former church, and now she is in the Interpreter-Training-Program at EBBC. It's great to have
her.
* Sonya Swink is Kim and Darrell's oldest daughter. Isn't she doing a great job interpreting songs
at our church?
* Traci Heffernan has training in audiology and is now wanting to become an interpreter. While
she was looking for a mentor, she found EBBC, and it's Interpreter Training Program. Although she
lives in Franktown (east of Castle Rock), Traci is determined she can travel all of the miles it takes
to be a part of our program. You'll be seeing her start interpreting at EBBC in February or March,
after she has done some official observations. She's a great gal!
* Stephanie Soto is a young Deaf mom who recently moved to Colorado from New Mexico with her
husband, Joey, and children, Nathaniel and Nira. You may have seen Stephanie sign some songs in
our church. Wow! She was the worship leader at her Deaf church in New Mexico, and she has
much to teach us hearing interpreters about signing music. In fact........on Saturday, February 2nd,
Stephanie will be teaching a 4-hour workshop to our EBBC Interpreters and Interpreters-inTraining. How cool is that?
