PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Extraordinary! Challenging! New! Exciting! These are but a few of those words
used to describe our "new look" 1985-86 school year. From registration and the
"handshake" to our leadership camps and banquets; from Senior Recognition and
Junior Presentation to many other class and club functions; from Fall and Spring
picnics to Amateur Hour and the Rose Ceremony, we've walked pathways together
that you have helped to make unique. Together we have sought to build "unbreakable faith" as we've focused our thoughts on Christ's plan for our individual lives. In
academic pursuits, religious activities, and ordinary moments which you've shared
with friends and roommates, we forged memories that will never be forgotten.
The academy experience, however, goes beyond memories. Its purpose is to
prepare young men and women for a life of service. We work together toward that
end, having prayerfully invoked the leading of the Holy Spirit, in that great task of
character building. The times in which we live have made that task ever so difficult.
Yet your cooperative spirit, openness to counsel, insightfulness, and above all, your
love for Christ and one another has made that task our joy.
Be assured that great challenges lie ahead. For some it is on to college or a
vocation. For others on to a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year at Blue Mountain
with more demanding, increasingly difficult subject matter. Whatever the future
might hold, be assured always of God's love for you. Psalms 63:3 is an eloquent
testimony to this fact.
God bless you always as you continue on in the great adventure of life. To those who
will return to Blue Mountain for the 1986-87 school year, let us settle for nothing
less than a full measure of love for our Lord, family and friends . It is going to be a
GREAT year!
Your brother in Christ,

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was
walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky
flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed
two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him,
and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he
looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that
many times along the path of his life there was only one
set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the
very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord
about it. "Lord, You said that once I decided to follow
You, .You'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed
that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is
only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I
needed You most You would leave me."
The Lord replied, "My son, My precious child, I love you
and would never leave you. During your times of trial and
suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was
then that I carried you."

Man once walked hand-in-hand with God in personal communion with his Creator. To
this day, the desire for such communion remains instilled within the heart.
Although man can no longer physically walk with the Lord, he can, through observing
God's creations, still sense the presence of his Maker. Through the whisper of the breeze,
or the silence of night, God speaks to His beloved earthly friends . A sunrise expresses His
joy and eagerness to surround us with His love.
Now as man walks through God's creation, taking in every detail, communicating with
his Creator, he grasps the hand of the Lord in symbolic fellowship. He is eternally grateful
to the Lord for His omnipresence in nature and further strives to reflect the nature of his
Creator.
We, too of the 1985-86 Echoes staff, dedicte this annual in honor of our God who
created the beautiful nature of our world.

Proudly salute the graduates of 1986
Dear Mike:
Your graduation from BMA is a culmination of hard work, dedication and sacrifice. These same values will help you reach the goal you are aspiring for. As you embark on a new course of study our
prayers and best wishes go with you. We are very proud of you, Mike, and we love you.
Congratulations to you and your classmates.

Dear Mark,
To us it seems like just yesterday that you were but a child. But look at you now
my son, you have become a man . From toys and spinning tops you've grown to cars
and spinning props. (Congratulations on making Private Pilot, we never doubted
even though you might have!) Now it's time fo~ you to graduate, but remember you
are just beginning to learn.
Son, BMA has taught you much, but the most important thing in life is to know
God. Put Him first in your life, see Him every day with all your heart and He will reward your search with riches untold . No matter what befalls us as time marches on,
make us one promise, Mark, that you will meet Mom and me at the feet of Jesus.
Love,
Dad and Mom

Andrews University
has somet · that
Yale, Harvard, and M.IJ:
want very much.
What in the world would three big
name schools want from a quiet, Christian uriiversity in Berrien Springs,
Michigan?
Well, for one thing, its students.
In fact, there was a recent senior
here at Andrews majoring in physics
who did such an outstanding job that,
aside from Andrews, other schools have
been taking notice.
Others like Yale, Harvard and M.I.T.
They all wanted him to pursue his
graduate studies at their schools.
And a recent Andrews chemistry
graduate received a major fellowship
grant right out of college to begin work
on a Ph.D. degree at Cal Tech.
In addition, Andrews students regularly get accepted into major law schools
like Georgetown University, Boston
University and the University of Texas.
And you've probably already heard about
Andrews' impressive record of pre paring students for medical school. The
success _rate among med school applicants from Andrews stands at 72 per_ cent. The national average is 48 percent.
We're proud that our students are
sought by other major universities around
the country. Proud- but not surprised.
After all, Andrews University has
long been providing students in all majors
with some of the finest programs any
Christian university ha~ to offer. That's
because we value academic achievement. And we encourage it through
our honors program. It's called the Society
of Andrews Scholars, and recognizes
and encourage·s the highest scholastic
standards among our students. More
than 400 students from a wide range
of disciplines are members of this select society.
Now we can't promise that a host
of other major universities will come
knocking at your door when you graduate from Andrews. But we can guarantee
a few other things.
Like a solid degree, backed by an
outstanding education.
A scholarly Christian community
where your journeys toward faith and
learning are both made on the same road.
And the certainty that Berrien
Springs, Michigan, isn't the. only place
where our great reputation is known.
Find out more about Andrews by calling one of our admission counselors ton:::·
free. Nationwide: 1-800-253-2874.
In Michigan: 1-800-632-2248.
Andrews University
For the most important years of the rest of your life.
143
Dedicated to all the Seniors of 1986, but especially
to Karin Spencer and Steve Peck - two very special
people in our lives . -. .
For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that he would grant you according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened
with might by His Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted
and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and depth, and
height; and to know the love of Christ which passeth all knowledge, that ye might be filled with the fullness
of God. Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to
the power that worketh in us, unto him be all glory in the church by Jesus Christ throughout all ages, world
without end. (Ephesians 3:14-21)
