Thankyou to the 100+ volunteers and boat owners who made the event possible. Over 15 Sail Boats and 20 Power Boats took the 120 children along with 80 carers for a morning on the water. The families then returned to the Yacht Club for a Sausage Sizzle lunch where they were entertained by Connie the Clown. Many thanks goes out to the boat owners, volunteers, SoPYC staff, Cruising Committee and Kalparrin for all their efforts. CHASE THE ACE IS BACK ON THURSDAY NIGHTS! The Chase the Ace is back and running on Thursdays evenings at the South of Perth Yacht Club. Thanks to Lance who last week drew the Chase the Ace ticket, Lance has been a club member for 48 years and last Thursday celebrated his 96th birthday at the club. Happy Birthday Lance! Unfortunately he didn’t draw the winning ticket so the jackpot has now reached $1050! NEW MEMBER’S COCKTAIL PARTY On Friday evening, South of Perth Yacht Club officially welcomed our newest members to the club at the New Member’s Cocktail Party. The evening was an opportunity for the Commodore, Flag Officers and Managment Committee Members to meet in person those whom have recently joined the club. Membership Chairman Wayne Marshall opened the proceedings for the evening, introducing members to the Commodore, Past Commodore and Management Committee. Commodore, Mark Nicholas then presented the members with their certificates and officially welcomed them to the club. John and Matt (Ffast Lane 4 ) took the gun in each race with plenty of variation in the squabble for the minor placings. Comprehensive results at the usual place on the club website. The Easter break saw a quality fleet of 31 boats converge on the Royal Perth Annexe for the State Championships run by Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club. Boats from South of Perth were always in the mix although a range of starting related infringements took the gloss off some fine performances. Former World Champions, Grant Alderson and Dean MacAullay from RFBYC sailed consistently and kept out of trouble to win the Championship for the 8th time in the last 16 years. Nick and Janet Jerwood (Ineffable) won 3 heats but suffered some starting yipps to finish 5th overall and the best South of Perth boat. Full results by following the links from the ffiwa web page (www.ffiwa.com) Next week sees the blue ribbon event that is the Crews Race. This will be around fixed marks and should be entertaining from a navigational stand point as well as seeing how various personalities adapt to a change in roles. With South of Perth Yacht Club Sailors developing, competing and winning, at the State Championship. Jayden Dalton / Rome Featherstone SoPYC/FSC won the event after impressive sailing on day two. Maddison Taylor / Orla Mulholland Patterson third overall. Great work to all sailors and thanks to FSC organising a great event. Time: 8.30am - 11.00pm The Saturday Session will largely focus on the Western Hardstand and, Centreboard Club and surrounding areas, and the Sunday Session on the area surrounding the Main Clubhouse. This arrangement is designed, so far as possible, to allow work to be undertaken in timeframes when the usage of these areas is quieter. Works will include: gardening, tidying, painting, sorting and removal of any miscellaneous junk, redundant and broken signs and so on.
