October 2010 Letter from the Editor Happy Halloween

October

Letter
from
the
Editor
Happy
Halloween
pet
owners!
I
hope
you
and
your
pets
are
enjoying
the
cooler
weather.
Things
at
Phydeaux,
however,
are
really
heating
up!
When
I
walked
into
our
last
staff
meeting,
I
did
a
double
take
and
almost
walked
out
for
fear
I
was
in
the
wrong
place.
There
were
new
faces
everywhere!
We
have
assembled
our
team
for
our
new
store
in
Raleigh,
and
every
one
of
our
new
folks
is
doing
such
a
wonderful
job!
As
I
have
mentioned
before,
starting
work
at
Phydeaux
can
be
very
stressful
as
there
is
so
much
to
learn.
However,
our
new
people
are
taking
everything
in
stride
and
astounding
me
with
their
capacity
to
retain
information.
Despite
the
success
of
our
new
staff
members,
however,
I
also
wanted
to
thank
you
all,
our
customers,
for
your
patience
as
we
work
to
train
such
a
large
group.
It
can
be
intimidating
when
you
go
to
the
counter
to
check
out,
and
there
are
eight
pairs
of
eyes
scrutinizing
the
transaction.
However,
I’m
pretty
sure
these
guys
will
be
ready
to
fly
solo
very
soon
at
the
pace
they’re
going.
While
our
Raleigh
store
is
not
open
just
yet,
we
are
so
close
we
can
taste
it!
We’re
working
as
fast
as
we
can
and
barring
any
unforeseen
problems,
we
hope
to
open
our
doors
sometime
this
week
11/111/7.
It’s
really
happening
and
it’s
happening
soon!

FAQ
Q:
I’m
tired
of
my
cats
tracking
cat
litter
all
over
my
house!
What
can
I
do
to
stop
this
from
happening?
A:
Litter
tracking
is
a
problem
for
many
cat
owners.
Fortunately,
Phydeaux
has
some
suggestions
that
may
help
you
with
this
problem.
If
you
are
happy
with
your
current
cat
litter,
and
don’t
want
to
switch
litters,
you
might
want
to
try
a
different
litter
box.
The
Clevercat
is
a
top
entry
litter
box
(used
by
several
Phydeaux
employees’
cats)
that
we
have
found
helps
significantly
reduce
litter
tracking.
Cats
enter
the
box
through
a
hole
in
the
lid,
and
must
step
back
onto
the
lid
before
jumping
to
the
floor.
The
lid
of
the
Clevercat
has
grooves
on
it
to
catch
the
litter
from
your
cat’s
paws
and
prevent
it
from
hitting
the
floor.
Phydeaux
also
carries
the
Booda
Dome
Clean
Step
litter
box,
which
is
a
covered
litter
box
with
a
ramp
that
cats
use
to
enter
and
exit,
thus
catching
litter
on
the
way
out.
You
may
also
try
placing
a
litter
mat
underneath
your
litter
box
or
at
the
point
of
exit
of
your
enclosed
litter
box.
If
you’re
willing
to
switch
litters,
Phydeaux
carries
some
options
that
may
help.
Many
cat
owners
have
had
success
with
non‐tracking
cat
litters
such
as
Feline
Pine,
which
is
a
fantastic
smelling
pellet
litter,
Yesterdays
News,
another
pellet
litter
that
is
made
from
recycled
newspaper,
and
Litter
Pearls,
which
is
a
litter
made
up
of
crystals
that
absorb
and
subsequently
evaporate
cat
urine
(while
keeping
odors
down)
and
does
not
stick
to
your
cat’s
paws.
Q:
Why
don’t
you
carry
any
pet
bedding
made
from
cedar?
A:
Cedar
smells
wonderful
and
can
be
a
natural
insect
repellant.
However,
cedar,
as
well
as
pine
bedding,
can
also
be
toxic
to
pets
–
especially
small
animals.
Animals
housed
on
cedar
bedding
can
develop
respiratory
issues
and
dramatic
changes
in
liver
enzymes
due
to
exposure
to
aromatic
oils.
Phydeaux
carries
plenty
of
non‐
cedar
bedding
alternatives
for
your
pets.
For
small
animals,
we
carry
aspen
bedding,
which
is
a
wood
based
bedding
that
does
not
carry
the
risks
associated
with
cedar
and
pine
bedding.
We
also
have
Carefresh
bedding
(made
from
reclaimed
cellulose
pulp
fiber),
Ecostraw
(made
of
wheat
straw),
and
corn
cob
bedding.
For
dogs
and
cats,
we
offer
more
beds
than
you
can
imagine!
Come
in
to
the
store
to
check
them
out!

our
family.
He
is
doing
a
wonderful
job
and
learning
very
quickly!
We
put
Lee

an
E‐Collar

picture)
and
asked
a
few
questions
to
get
to
know
him
better.
Q:
How
long
have
you
been
working
at
Phydeaux?
A:
I've
been
here
for
about
six
months
now.
Q:
What’s
the
most
difficult
thing
about
working
at
Phydeaux?
A:
Restraining
myself
from
taking
home
every
animal
that
comes
in
with
the
adoption
services.
Q:
What’s
the
best
thing
about
working
at
Phydeaux?
A:
Having
the
opportunity
to
establish
a
relationship
not
only
with
the
customer
but
also
with
their
best
friend.
Q:
Do
you
have
any
pets
of
your
own?
If
so,
tell
us
about
them!
A:
I have a male cat named Goji and a female named Meiko. I rescued Goji from the
Orange County Animal Shelter and Meiko just kind of appeared on my front porch one
day so I took her in.
Q:
What
foods
and
products
do
you
give
to
your
pets?
A:
I
feed
them
the
Weruva
Paw
Lickin'
Chicken
and
they
absolutely
love
it!
As
for
dry
food,
I
give
Meiko
the
Wellness
salmon
formula
and
Goji
likes
the
chicken
formula.
Q:
What
do
you
like
to
do
in
your
spare
time?
A:
I
like
to
play
my
banjo
and
spend
as
much
time
outdoors
as
possible.
Q:
Anything
else
you’d
like
to
tell
your
customers?
A:
Thank
you
all
for
being
so
patient
during
this
exciting
learning
process!
