How to use Desire2Learn (D2L)
Keep a copy of this document handy as a reference to assist in navigating the
various features of Desire2Learn.
Log-on procedures
If you have not logged in, enter your username and password (received in an
email from D2L) on the login screen. The password is case sensitive, so be sure
to enter it just as it appears in your email. Then click on Login. The login screen
is illustrated below.
You can bookmark https://uwosh.courses.wisconsin.edu/ at the top of your Web
browser for easy login in the future.
If you have problems logging in, please contact the WIDA Help Desk at

Find the ACCESS Test Administrator Training course
After you have logged in, you will see the main page for D2L at UW Oshkosh as
illustrated below.
To find the ACCESS Test Administrator Training course for your state, scroll
down until you find the blue heading My Oshkosh Courses. You should see the
word Ongoing with a small + (plus sign) next to it, shown below.
Step 1: Click the + next to Ongoing.
Click on the + next to Ongoing.
Step 2: Click on the + (plus sign) next to WIDA.
Click on the + next to WIDA.
You should now see the ACCESS Test Administrator Training course for your
state.
Step 3: Click on the course name as shown below and you will automatically go
to the Course Home page.
Click on the course name.
At the Course Home page
The screen below shows the Course Home page. This is the main page to access
this course. You will see the course Announcements first. New information about
ACCESS training will be posted here. You can click on the headings across the
bottom of the yellow banner to use different parts of the course. The headings are
explained below.

Course Home
From anywhere in the course, click on the heading Course Home to return to the
main page, which is illustrated above.
Checklist
The Checklist is a list of every component of the course. You can check off items
you have completed by clicking on a box next to the component. The Checklist
provided is an optional feature. It is designed to help you keep track of your
progress.
Content
The Content page is where you click to begin the course.
It contains the table of contents for the course, as illustrated below. Consider
each topic listed under Content as the beginning of a chapter. You should click
on each topic to learn about it.

Accessing course documents
After you click on a topic, you will read more about it on that page. In addition,
you may find a link to download a PDF file or a PowerPoint presentation. This link
contains important information. (Links that you can click on are underlined and
blue.) Right-click on the link to open, download, or print these documents.
When you right click you will see the following screen:

Select Open or Open in New Window to read the document online. We
recommend opening in a new window. Doing so will give you access to all the
toolbars appropriate for the kind of document you’re opening.
•
Select Save Target As… to choose a location on your computer where you
would like to save the document.
•
Select Print Target to print the document to your default printer.
The PowerPoint presentations are interactive tools you will use to listen to sound
samples from the Speaking Test. Instructions on how to listen to the samples are
included at the beginning of the presentation.
Sounding Board
The Sounding Board is a way for course participants to post and respond to
messages about the ACCESS for ELLs® test and the training course.
•
After you click on Sounding Board, you will see discussion topics, as
illustrated below.
Click on a topic.
To read a message:
•
Click on the discussion title, which is blue and underlined.
•
After you click on a topic, you will see a list of previous posts. Click on the
subject title to read a message.
To respond to a message:
•
After clicking on a message, you may post a response by clicking the Reply
button as shown below.
•
Give your message a title and write the question or comment.
•
Then scroll down to the Submit button on the lower right hand side of the
screen and click on it to post your message. You can click Cancel if you do
not wish to send it. All other participants in the course will be able to read and
respond to your post.

To post a new message:

Click Add Message to post a message to the sounding board.
•
Give your message a title and write the question or comment.
•
Then scroll down to the Submit button on the lower right hand side of the
screen and click on it to post your message. You can click Cancel if you do
not wish to send it. All other participants in the course will be able to read and
respond to your post.

Quizzes
Once you have finished reading the course documents and practicing scoring the
sound samples in the Content section, you need to take the three Quizzes
required to complete the course:
● Group Components Administration,
● Speaking Test Administration, and
● Kindergarten Administration.
Click on the Quizzes heading. To take and submit a quiz, click on the desired Quiz
title. Then on the quiz page, answer the items and Save answers. Next, click on
the Submit Quiz button in the lower right hand corner of the page.
Evaluation
Click on Evaluation to complete a survey which will provide valuable feedback on
this training course.
FAQ
Click on FAQ for answers to many common questions. If you don’t find your
answer here, you can post to the Sounding Board or contact WIDA Help (toll free:
1-800-276-7735 or email [email protected]) for assistance.
Grades
Click on Grades to see your scores on each of the three quizzes. Some districts
require proof of your certification to administer ACCESS for ELLs®. WIDA does
not offer a formal certificate. Your passing grades (80% or above) are considered
your certification. If your district requires proof of certification, this is the page
you should print and give to your district facilitator.
There are two ways that you can print your grades:
1. Select Print Preview from the file menu and then press the Print button
inside the Print Preview window.
Click Print.

2. Press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard. After pressing this
button, open a word processing document and select Paste from the Edit
menu. An image of the D2L Grades screen will then appear in the Word
document. Next, select Print in the word processing document’s File
menu.

Ends your D2L session.
