deadline for each shoot will be given equal priority and drawn at random. All requests
postmarked after the deadline will be processed by date of postmark.

3. Squadding will be restricted to a maximum of 2 yards difference on a squad. Note:
18, 19 yard shooters may only have one yard difference between shooters..
4. A shooter may only draw one position per event. Any shooters wishing to squad together
must fill out only one application indicating the shooters full name, ATA number, and
handicap yardage on the line indicating which position that shooter wishes to shoot.
Applications for full or partial squads that do not have each shooter’s information
completely and properly filled out will not be honored. Multiple applications for
any individual will be discarded and will not be refunded. The first application
encountered for an individual will be the only one processed.
5. In an effort to avoid unused positions, it is imperative that you either cashier or release
all positions that you have presquadded for prior to the event. Anyone that does not
cashier or release positions that have been pre-squadded in their name will risk having
any or all subsequent pre-squadded positions in their name released by management.

for all shooters. A shooter may not draw more than one (1) position per event.

touch screen system. Upon paying your entry fees, you will be supplied with a receipt

GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE PSSA
Dear Fellow Shooters,
I am humbled and honored to prepare this Welcome Message on the occasion of the
125th Anniversary of the Pennsylvania State Sportsmen’s Association. The history of
the PSSA is obviously a long one marked with numerous significant accomplishments
of its resident shooters.
We are truly fortunate to have Richard Hamilton as our talented webmaster who has
such extensive knowledge of this Association and its rich history. Mr. Hamilton was
instrumental in the founding and growth of the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame. The Hall
of Fame is now being well cared for by the hard work of Pam Darroch and her Hall of
Fame committee members. We owe a big “thank you” to all who work so hard to make
the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame one of the greatest, if not THE greatest hall of fames
of all states. I encourage you to spend some time in our Hall of Fame during your next
visit to our home grounds. Take some time to soak up some of the wonderful history of
this Association. Thanks to all who make the PA Hall of Fame so exceptional!
I cannot write this message without congratulating the 21 Pennsylvania shooters who
are on the 2015 ATA All American teams. Also, special congratulations to those that
made the PA state teams. This is an accomplishment that you should be very proud of.
The 2015 shoot year was very good at the PSSA. We made a successful transition to
a new shoot manager/tournament director, Skip Klinger. We purchased and installed
all new PAT traps. PA led all states with the most targets throw with over 4,750,000
targets, which led all other states by 450,000. Of those targets, 2,724,000 were thrown
at our home grounds in Elysburg. The Save-a-Pair shoot for breast cancer awareness
was a huge success and will be repeated on June 30, 2016. Please mark your calendars!
Your Executive Committee is always looking at ways to improve the grounds and the
shooters experience. The ladies will find a newly remodeled restroom in the main entry
building. We are looking at paving and parking expansion, additional camp sites and
permanent vendor buildings. While there are many projects to address, the EC needs to
prioritize these projects in a fiscally responsible manner. We are fortunate in that we are
one of the few major states that own their entire home grounds. The EC will continue
to work hard to live up to shooters expectations.
I look forward to seeing you in Elysburg!

CHAIR SHOOTERS

new average card will be issued with the Chair Designation.
This rule does not in any way prohibit any shooter from shooting from a chair, stool,
scooter or any other seating device.
CLASSIFICATION
Classification will open in conjunction with the office opening time listed in the program
for each day. Classification will close 1/2 hour after the start of the last event each day.
Please be sure that you are using your latest ATA membership card showing assigned
handicap and that you have met all target requirements to save yourself and shoot management trouble and embarrassment. Make sure that the card presented to the committee
is correct and contains all current data with your singles and doubles averages computed
correctly. Erroneous cards submitted to the committee will result in disqualification from
the respective shoot and forfeiture of all trophies and/or monies won. Any shooter who
deliberately submits an erroneous card will be reported to the ATA for disciplinary action.
The classification staff will insist on having a paper card or print-out from the Shooter

PA MEDIA DAY
Monday, June 13 is PA Media Day. Representative of local TV stations and area newspapers are invited to attend Media Day and are given the opportunity to learn more about
our sport and are given an opportunity to shoot in a media competition under the guidance
of ATA shooters. This will begin at 9:00 am. All shooters are invited and encouraged to
watch this event which will be conducted at Bank 6.
- 13 -
PINS
Commemorative pins will be provided at all PSSA shoots. Pins will be distributed at
classification - one per shooter - until the supply is exhausted. The PSSA will award pins
to contestants breaking either 100 or 200 straight targets for the first time at each PA
tournament. Shooters previously earning one of these pins are not eligible for another.
PHOTOGRAPHS
A PSSA photographer will be available at posted times . All trophy winners are encouraged to have their picture taken for submission to Trap & Field as well as an opportunity
to commemorate their win. Additional copies will be available for purchase.
POSTPONEMENTS-CANCELLATIONS-ACCEPTANCE OF ENTRIES
Entries will not be refunded unless an event is cancelled, or by majority vote of the Executive Committee. A postponement of an event to another day or time is not a cancellation
and no entry will be refunded. Management reserves the right to reject any entry for
cause; also to change the program in case weather conditions and/or attendance makes
such a change advisable.
PRACTICE
Practice traps are located at the extreme northern end of the lower trap line. Parking and
restrooms are located at that site. Practice targets are $5.00 per round and practice traps
will be open 1/2 hour prior to the first event of the day and will continue until the last
squads begin shooting the last event of the day (conditions and personnel permitting).
PSSA ANNUAL MEETING
The Annual Meeting of the PSSA will take place on Friday June 17 at 8:00 AM. Credentials of all delegates on forms supplied by the PSSA must be returned to the Secretary
prior to the beginning of the meeting. All questions should be submitted in advance
to the PSSA President so PSSA has an opportunity to respond in an adequate and
accurate fashion.
REDUCED PRICE FOR JUNIORS & SUB JUNIORS
PSSA will deduct $15.00 off all target prices for juniors and sub-juniors who choose to
forfeit the right to play options. THIS DECLARATION MUST BE MADE AT THE TIME
OF INITIAL CLASSIFICATION, AND IS IRREVOCABLE FOR THE DURATION OF
THE SHOOT. THIS DECLARATION WILL ALSO BE BINDING FROM THE COLONIAL CLASSIC THROUGH THE PA STATE SHOOT. (Example 1; If you choose
to play options in the first event you enter, you are not eligible for reduced price targets
for the remainder of the shoot: Example 2: If you choose reduced price targets in your
first event, that choice is binding on all events and you may not play any options for the
remainder of the shoot). PSSA is committed to helping our sport by encouraging young
shooters to participate, but will not subsidize the playing of options.
SCORES AND SCORING PROCEDURES
Scoring Errors - Management will not be responsible for errors in scores after the options
have been posted. Scores will be posted on the scoreboard located on the front porch of
the PSSA Entry Building. Shooters are reminded to check their scores and notify shoot
management immediately if a discrepancy is noticed.
FOR OPTION CALCULATION PURPOSES, SCORES BECOME FINAL 1/2
HOUR AFTER THE FINAL SCORE SHEET FOR THE EVENT IS POSTED.
- 14 -
REFUNDS
Refunds MAY be issued for emergencies and/or SERIOUS health issues at the discretion
of shoot management. Under no circumstances will option money be refunded. Once
options are paid they are final.
SCTP CHAMPIONSHIPS
The SCTP Championships will be held on Saturday, June 11 in conjunction with Event
1. This event will determine PA representation at the Grand American. All shooters are
eligible to participate in this event named for the SCTP program.
SHELLS
PSSA WILL NOT OPERATE A SHELLHOUSE IN 2016. However, vendors WILL
be permitted to sell ammunition. Purchase of shells is not compulsory. Spent
shells on the ground become the property of the PSSA and are not to be
picked up. Please go to the maintenance shed to sort through all hulls you
wish to obtain in order to maintain shoot harmony and safety.
SHOOT MANAGEMENT
The Pennsylvania State Sportsmen's Association will have full responsibility for conducting shoots on the premises. All decisions pertaining to these shoots will be made by the
Manager, under the supervision of the PSSA Executive Committee.
SHOOT-OFFS
Handicap - at the conclusion of that day's last event if weather permits.
Singles and Doubles Keystone Open, Colonial Classic, PA Grand, Westy Hogan - 16
Yard and Doubles events will be carried over to the next like event in that tournament.
Shoot-offs for the final 16 Yard and Doubles Event and all remaining ties will be held
following the final event of the day on which that event occurs.
State Shoot: Singles Events 8, 10, 13 will carry over to succeeding events until decided.
If still tied these events will be decided concurrently with shoot-offs for Event 16. Event
16 will have a maximum shoot-off targets of 100 and then carried over to event 21.
Doubles Events will be carried over to the next like event in this tournament. Shoot-offs
for the final double event and all remaining ties will be held following the final event of
the day on which that event occurs.
SPECIAL CATEGORY DECLARATIONS
In accordance with the ATA rules (Section IV, Rule J)
"Special category shooters must declare their special category at the time of their
classification in any registered tournament if they wish to compete as a category shooter.
Without such declaration, the contestant will not be allowed to compete for the
applicable category trophy for the duration of the tournament. No contestant will
be allowed to declare or change a special declaration after firing his/her first shot.
Special category changes will be permitted between the Colonial Classic and the PA State
Shoot; however, the change must be declared before firing the first shot in the PA State
Shoot. This allowance will not be permitted for Sub-Jr or Junior shooters, their selection
will be binding from the Colonial Classic to the PA State Shoot.
NOTE: shooters may declare only ONE category. With the exception of chair shooter.
- 15 -
SQUADDING
A shooter will only be allowed to request one position per event per ATA number. Shooters
desiring to request more than one position per event must have the plastic ATA cards for
each of the prospective squadmates, and those squadmates may not have already reserved
a position in the event. SHOOTERS DESIRING TO CHANGE SQUADS AND/OR
POSITIONS IN AN EVENT MUST RELINQUISH THE POSITION THEY ARE HOLDING BEFORE BEING ELIGIBLE TO REQUEST A NEW POSITION.
Management will make every attempt to provide sufficient banks and flights to meet the
needs of anticipated number of shooters. Squads for all events are available on a first
come - first served basis. Remember that many squads will have been taken by shooters
who pre-squadded, particularly on Banks 1, 2 and 3. In order to keep the shoots running
in an efficient manner, new flights will not be added until the flights currently opened
are sufficiently filled to justify a new flight. Please pull only the squad tickets you
anticipate filling and relinquish unwanted positons as early as possible so that we
have an opportunity to re-issue those positions. Remember: IF YOU HAVE ALREADY RESERVED A POSITION FOR AN EVENT YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO
SELECT ANOTHER POSITION UNTIL YOU HAVE RELINQUISHED THE FIRST.
THE SOFTWARE HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO ALLOW ONLY ONE POSITION PER
EVENT PER ATA NUMBER.
TARGET REQUIREMENTS - PENALTIES
Keystone Open & Westy Hogans - A minimum of 1000 16 Yard, 1000 Handicap, and 500

target year and the two previous years, 500 of which must have been shot after September
1, 2015, to avoid the penalty yardage. Doubles - A minimum of 1000 registered targets
during the current target year and the two previous years, 300 of which must have ben

or Wednesday of the State Shoot, shooters shall be required to shoot in not less than Class
A for 16 Yards and Doubles.
In Handicap, a shooter with insufficient targets will be penalized two yards beyond his ATA

will be held to the required target minimums and a minimum penalty yardage of 23 yards.
- 16 -
PENALTY YARDAGE MAY BE WAIVED BY ANY SHOOTER SO ELECTING;
HOWEVER, SUCH WAIVER SHALL PROHIBIT THEM FROM WINNING ANY

OF INITIAL CLASSIFICATION, AND IS IRREVOCABLE FOR THE DURATION
OF THE SHOOT (SHOOTERS WHO SHOOT DURING PRELIMINARY DAYS AND
MEET TARGET REQUIREMENTS IN THE TIMELINE STATED MAY RE-CLASSIFY).
It is the shooters' responsibility to make sure that their classification and/or handicap
yardage is correct and that they have complied with all target requirements.
Shoot management specifically reserves the right to check the correctness of the class
and yardage of all shooters after completion of the event, and anyone winning trophies
and/or money, who competes in an incorrect class or shoots from the wrong yardage,
knowingly or unknowingly, shall forfeit any trophies or money won in that event.
TARGETS - TRAPS - BANKS
A total of 53 traps are available, 48 program (12 banks) and 5 practice. Traps will be set
each morning and before each event where applicable. The number of banks used each
day is listed in the program.
TELEPHONE
PSSA has a telephone in the office where you can be reached if necessitated by an
emergency at home. The PSSA telephone number is (570) 672-9747. This phone is not
available for outgoing calls. Because of the proliferation of cell phones and the high cost
of pay phones there are no pay phones available on the PSSA grounds.
TROPHIES
The current rules of the ATA apply to all PSSA sponsored tournaments.
Category Shooters and Chair Shooters should pay special
attention to the new rules.
TV-RADIO
WATCH THE TV Monitors for On-Deck Squads. This information, as well as leading
scores, can be found at 89.3 FM on your radio and Channel 19 on your television.

required, and all vendors will be required to show proof of liability insurance. Locations

867-4269, email [email protected]
VENDORS WILL BE PERMITTED TO SELL AMMUNITION.
YARDAGE REDUCTIONS
Handicap yardage reductions received by a shooter during the course of a shoot shall be

PA STATE SHOOT
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15
Office opens at 8:00 Program begins at 9:00
Sponsored by Rio Ammunition!
ATTORNEY GENERAL'S DAY
In honor of Gene Anastasio, who, in addition to his tremendous support of trapshooting
(PA ATA delegate and ATA President), was an Assistant Attorney General for the state of
Pennsylvania, PSSA will present trophies to the RESIDENT all-around winners of this day's
shooting. These trophies are known as "The Attorney General's Cup." An Attorney General's
Cup will be presented to the all-around winners of classes and categories for Events 13, 14,
and 15. Your classification and special category designation for Event 13 will determine your
trophy eligibility. These trophies will be presented in conjunction with the Hall of Fame
Induction Ceremonies. Shoot-off times for Attorney General Cup trophies will be announced
by shoot management.
In addition, a permanent Attorney General's Trophy will be engraved with the name
of the shooter with the highest combined score in these three events. This trophy will
remain on display in the Hall of Fame. (2015 Champion: Steve Huber)

PA TRAPSHOOTING HALL OF FAME
2016 INDUCTEE
Kim Bateman
Kim Bateman of Slippery Rock will be inducted into the Pennsylvania Trapshooting
Hall of Fame in the Class of 2016. Kim began her trapshooting career in 1992
when a fellow shooter asked her to shoot in the local Butler Co league because they
needed a woman shooter to win the woman’s trophy for their club. After fulfilling that
obligation and winning the trophy for the club, Kim took a break from shooting to
concentrate on her equestrian endeavors. She returned to shooting (and her winning
ways) in 1997 when she met her husband Bruce.
From 1997 on, Kim racked up trophy after trophy, award after award, and honor
after honor at the local, state, regional and national levels. She has placed on the
Pennsylvania Women’s State Team 14 times and the ATA All-American Lady Team
five times. Kim ended the 2015 shooting season with a composite average of .9206
to earn Lady 2 runner-up honors for Trap & Field All-Around Average Awards. She
has a total of 16 Grand American awards and earned an impressive 55 trophies during
the Colonial Classic and Pennsylvania State Shoots.
In 2009, in what may have been Kim’s most impressive tournament, she broke a
200 straight to tie for the Pennsylvania State Singles Championship after scoring a
199 two days earlier during the Class Championships. Kim went on to win the Lady
Championship in both those events along with Lady Runner-up honors in both the
doubles and the handicap. She and Bruce together earned husband and wife honors
with a score of 399. Rounding out the 2009 state shoot was Kim’s record setting 391
high all around score.
Kim’s greatest shooting accomplishment was winning the Lady Grand American
Handicap on her first trip to the Grand American in Vandalia during the 100th
anniversary. Her most memorable accomplishments were earning her way to the 27
yard line with a score of 97 in 2002 during the President Phil Wright Handicap at
Vandalia and winning the Class A White Flyer HOA at the Grand 2006.
Kim enjoys helping new shooters and serving as the statistician for two Western
Pennsylvania leagues. She also is the recording secretary at Moraine Sportsmen’s
Club since 2007, where she and her husband, Bruce, have been providing leadership
for the trap team.
Kim lives on a 47 acre farm in Slippery Rock and raises numerous domestic and
farm animals. Off the trapline, she and her husband enjoy bowling and Kim has a
homemade soap making business.
The Hall of Fame Committee is very proud to make Kim a 2016 Hall of Fame Inductee.

PA TRAPSHOOTING HALL OF FAME
2016 INDUCTEE
Freeman Kline, Jr.
Freeman Kline, Jr., of Allentown has been a ATA Life Member since 1956 and is also
a 3rd generation trapshooter following in the footsteps of his father, Freeman Kline,
Sr, and his grandfather, George Kline. Over his 60-year trapshooting career, he has
amassed a total of 135,625 16-yard targets, 84,800 handicap targets and 5,850 doubles
targets, and has also racked up an impressive list of trapshooting accomplishments.
Of his accomplishments, he is most proud of his performance at the 2003 North
American Singles Championship where he broke 200 x 200 and then went on to break
100 x 100 in a shootoff to claim High Veteran honors. His three Westy Hogan Singles
Championships in 1982, 1990 and 2003 are also personal highlights for Freem, and
he recalls the 2003 Westy Hogan performance in which he was tied with seven other
shooters, all with 200 x 200, and broke 175 x 175 in the shootoff to claim the title.
Many other additional titles also mark his lengthy career: Among the many Veteran’s,
Class, Open and Resident prizes that Freem has earned are High Gun at the 1990
100th anniversary of the Maine State Shoot, where he won with a 199x200, claiming
the High Open prize, High Open honors at the New Jersey State Shoot, also 1990,
where he broke 200x200, AA Runner-up at the Northeast Grand in 1992 after he tied
for High Gun with a 200x200, and High Veteran Honors at the 2004 Eastern Zone
where he broke a 200x200. In 2002, Freem broke 100x100 and followed it up with a
100x100 in Handicap in the same afternoon at the Keystone Sportsman’s Gun Club.
In total, Freem has broken 134 ATA 100x100’s and nine ATA 200x200’s, maintained
an average of a 98, or better, ten times, with his highest coming in 2003 where his
average of 98.83 earning him the status of highest Veteran average in the country.
As impressive as are Freem’s accomplishments and honors, equally impressive is his
long devotion to the sport of trapshooting. At the age of 26, Freem was named Trap
Captain at the North End Rod & Gun Club, one the leading ATA registered trapshooting
clubs in the state, and he still holds the position to this day. In the mid-1970’s, he
was appointed to the PSSA Classification Committee - a position he held until 2002,
and in 1987, Woody Brown appointed him to the PSSA Advisory Committee, upon
which he still sits today.
His dedication is evident in the fact that he has only missed three PA State Shoots in
his entire shooting career - two years when he served in the Army in 1958 and 1958,
and the year of his son’s first birthday in 1966. This upcoming PA State Shoot marks
the 50th consecutive year where he will be shooting in the event.
Freeman has lived all of his life in Allentown, PA, most of it with his late wife, Barbara,
who was also an active volunteer in trapshooting, having served as a PSSA cashier
until she passed away in 1999. When he is not trapshooting, he enjoys fishing and
hunting, travelling with his long-time companion, Sandy, and spending time with his
daughter, Cheryl, son, Gary, and his four grandchildren.
The Hall of Fame Committee is very proud to make Freeman a 2016 Hall of Fame
Inductee.

of Champions with a score of 99/100. He rounded out the weeklong championship
events with sub-junior 3rd Place ATA Doubles Championship.
Luke’s accomplishments earned him the honor of Team captain for the 2016
Pennsylvania All State Team: Junior/Sub-Junior Team Captain. He also was named
to the 2016 ATA Sub-Junior All-American Team Luke is also a member of the US
Trap Team: Breaking Clays (Southern Chester County Youth Shooting League) and

insatiable love of shooting has led him to amass an impressive number of wins in
local, state and national events. Luke’s passion for shooting will undoubtedly lead
him to a bright future in national and international shooting events.
