Schafer’s Liquid Fish
Feature Customer
The Strite family has been
farming in the Harrisburg area
since 1843. The first fruit trees
and vegetables were planted by
Joseph C. Strite in 1914. His son
Earl would eventually join him in
the business and over time expand
the farm to over 250 acres. Earl
sold produce at markets in the city
of Harrisburg and door to door in
nearby Hummelstown. In 1950
the original market was opened on
the farm. Earl’s sons Joe and Tom
joined their father on the farm and
Peaches
expanded vegetable plantings and
added greenhouse operations. All
three received the honor of being
named Master Farmers over the
course of their careers. In 1994 a
new farm market and bakery were
built and the farm was expanded to
300 acres. 2011 will be the inaugural
year for our CSA which will allow
us to deliver produce throughout
the greater Harrisburg area to
participating members. Current
family members actively involved
on the farm are brothers Joe and
Tom, wives Sharon and Sheryl, and
children Stephanie, Matt, and Jon.
We use Schafer Liquid Fish in our
drip irrigation lines to add nutrients
to our soil while irrigating and have
seen numerous benefits from the
use of this product.

Oak Grove Farms, Inc. is a family
owned farm located in the heart of
Central Pennsylvania. Our farm has
been around since the early 1960’s.
We have a Country Store located
on our farm in Mechanicsburg,
Pennsylvania, where we sell a good
bit of our homegrown produce.
Along with that we also deliver a lot
of our homegrown produce to local
grocery stores and farmers markets.
Our summer season starts out with
Strawberries, which everybody loves
around here, then quickly gets us into
gear for Sweet Corn, Cantaloupes,
Watermelons, and more! It doesn’t
ever get boring around our farm
over the summer. On top of the
produce already mentioned we
grow Tomatoes, Eggplant, Peppers,
and pretty much any other garden
vegetable you can imagine. Besides
the Produce that we grow we also
have a huge selection of homemade
“farm fresh” baked goods, such as
pies, breads, danishes, sticky buns,
and much more! The more our farm
Anthony Lebo
Assistant Director of CSA Program
grows the more we see the need for
convenience in our country store.
Not only does our store sell our
homegrown produce and baked
goods, but we also sell a variety of
fruit from other local farms over the
summer, and have a wide selection of
local eggs, milk, and meats available
to customers. This last winter we
decided to take our farm in yet
another direction, one that would not
only help our customers, but would
also benefit the farm.
Over this last winter we saw the
demand for fresh produce around
our area, and the burden it can put
on some families wallets. Because of
this we have started offering a CSA
Program at our farm. For those of
you who are not familiar with CSA
Programs, it is a program that allows
the consumer to pay in advance for
their produce, and guarantees them
fresh picked produce from our farm!
The way our program is set up is so
Amy Lebo
Director of CSA Program
that you, the consumer, can come to
our farm each week during one of our
pick-up times, and fill a box of produce
for you and your family! Since we are
bringing the produce directly from
the field to the consumer we save on
labor costs, having less overhead, and
are able to sell it to our CSA members
at a discounted price. We have tried to
make it flexible for people by dividing
our summer season into three, ten
week, sessions; because of this you
can choose if you want to do one or
all three sessions.
Not only do we offer produce
to our CSA members at discounted
prices, but we also offer “extras”
including homemade baked goods,
such as breads and specialty sweets,
along with some of our homemade
jams and jellies. We are excited to
start the second year of our CSA
Program this next summer! For more
information you can find us on the
web at www.oakgrovefarmsinc.
com. We will have registration forms
available in our store and on the
website by January 2012. Or if you
have any questions you can contact
us at 717.497.4492.
