TIP SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Earthmover Credit Union decided to do things a little differently this year. Our goal was to
offer more scholarships to the students of our membership in order to help more families with
the financial commitment that comes from pursuing higher education. That is why, instead of
awarding one scholarship, we decided to award four Teen Investment Program (TIP) college
scholarships totaling $4,000 to four local high school students. The tiered scholarships (1st
Place: $2,000, 2nd Place: $1,000, 3rd Place: $500, and a 4th Place: $500) were awarded to these
four students based on outstanding academics, extracurricular involvement, and an essay on how
“financially literate” their generation is compared to other generations.

another amazing story of savings
done by our Financial Service Representative, Jasmine
Rios (pictured to the left). While helping an existing
member trying to consolidate debt and get better control
of their finances, Jasmine recommended the member
refinance their auto loan and roll in the credit card
balances into that loan too. After she ran some numbers
and submitted a loan application, the member was able
to refinance the auto loan and payoff four credit cards.
Our member was able to save over $2,500! Plus, while
refinancing the auto loan, they also purchased one of our
vehicle warranties and GAP coverage to give them peace
of mind. We love sharing awesome stories like this,

EMV ENABLED VISA CREDIT CARDS

Now that EMV enabled Visa credit cards are being issued to our membership, it is important to mention that
if you want to do an over-the-counter cash advance, you will need your Visa credit card PIN. You will start to
see that more and more financial institutions have updated their cash advance terminals to be EMV enabled.
These new terminals require a PIN to complete an over-the-counter cash advance at a financial institution.
This unique PIN for your new EMV enabled Visa credit card is automatically sent when the card is ordered.
Lastly, each credit EMV chip card has a unique PIN, even when there are two cards on an account (i.e. a
husband and wife have a joint account). Keep these PINs handy in case you want to do an over-the-counter
cash advance. If you have any questions about this, feel free to call us any time at 630.844.4950.

At Earthmover Credit Union, we are constantly reviewing how well we are protecting your personal
information. Part of this review is to assess how to continuously monitor possible fraudulent activity. New
this summer, in order to further protect you, you will begin receiving texts, phone calls and/or emails asking
you to confirm if suspicious purchases are valid or not. We will ONLY ask you to verify if you did make the
purchase(s) or not. We will not ask for account or personal information. Implementing this service is just one
way we work towards protecting your finances and decreasing fraud losses. Together is the only way we
can and will reduce the inconvenience that comes with dealing with fraud. We cannot stress how important
it is for us to have accurate contact information in order to catch potential fraud early and in some cases
block it entirely. To update or confirm we have your most recent phone number or email address, please do

TRAVELING
With travel, there are many things one has to prepare prior to some time away from home.
One common thing that is often missed is calling your financial institution and informing
us that you will be out of the area. Because fraudsters are more sophisticated every day,
many financial institutions including Earthmover Credit Union are being very proactive
in their defense against fraud. Some examples of this include setting daily transaction
limits or even blocking certain countries completely in order to reduce fraud and the
inconvenience that comes with it. The last thing Earthmover Credit Union wants to do is
inconvenience you while you are on vacation, which is why it is essential to call and let us
know your destination and dates that you are going to be traveling. Adding this quick small step of calling us
prior to heading out of town will provide you the level of accessibility you expect. Simply call our main number
(630.844.4950) and let us know your travel details. Also very important to mention, be prepared to verify your
personal and banking information with us. Our goal is not only to provide you uninterrupted service, but also to
protect your money. Your help with this is imperative. Happy travels!
WELCOME MIKE LAMONICA
Earthmover Credit Union (ECU) is happy to welcome and introduce our newest board
member. Mike Lamonica (pictured to the right) grew up in Aurora and upon finishing
high school earned a full time position with ECU. He served many roles at ECU
including teller, financial services representative, loan processor, and collections officer.
During his time at ECU, Mike attended Aurora University graduating with a bachelors
degree in finance and political science. After finishing at AU, Mike left ECU and went
on to earn a Master of Public Administration degree from NIU. He has worked as an
auditor since 2004 and was promoted to audit manager in 2013 with a federal agency.
Mike lives in Oswego with his wife, Kelly and their two children Christopher (5) and
Katelyn (3). He enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and watching any type of sporting event. We are
proud to have Mike join the team of dedicated individuals volunteering their personal time to continue moving
Earthmover Credit Union towards success. Welcome Mike!

For the month of May, our charity committee,
Earthgivers, raised $2,452.92 for Alexandra
Barringer who sustained injuries from a car
accident. For June, we sold World’s Finest
Chocolate for Alex Kruse, who is suffering from
an infectious disease and heart issues. From
our Vote For Your Favorite Charity website and
Facebook polls, we donated $182 to Paws &
Purrs Humane Society and $135 to Autism
Society of Illinois. This puts our total so far
over $8,000! Thank you for all your help!!
Coming up…
For the month of August, we will be selling
chocolate bars to raise funds for the Illinois
Youth Involvement Council. We will also be
hosting a 5 B’s BBQ event at our Yorkville
location at 1008 Bridge Street on August 31st.
