WELCOME TO 2014! Another new year has begun! Are you keeping your
resolutions or have they already been forgotten? Getting your financial house in
order is a common resolution, and ECU is here to help! The first step to getting
in order is to track your spending. You can’t create a household budget until you
know what your monthly expenses are. You can track your spending from your
ECU account easily with our Home Banking and Mobile Banking solutions.
And of course, ECU can save you money if you refinance loans you have
somewhere else, with us. We have great rates, and you may be surprised at how
those savings can add up. These savings can be especially big on mortgages! Did
you know that ECU does mortgages? Contact Lisa Miller at 630-966-2310 to
see if we can save you some $$! If you are looking to purchase a home or do some
renovations, we have loan solutions for that too!
Once you know your expenses, you may decide that you need to increase your
savings. If your “rainy day” fund needs a boost, you can start or increase your
payroll deduction from your employer to your ECU savings account. If your
employer doesn’t offer payroll deduction, you can set up an automatic transfer
from your checking to your savings account. Forced, regular savings deposits
will boost that “rainy day” fund in no time! If you are searching for more
investment/saving options, we have free financial advisors at ECU that can
help determine what savings vehicles are right for you. Contact Frank Vandy
at 630-906-3516 to set up your free appointment. Frank can also help you
set up some college savings plans for your kids or grandkids or increase your
life insurance coverage too! If you have a 401k at work, I urge you to increase
your contribution, especially to take advantage of any employer match. Even a
1% increase has a minimal impact on your take-home pay but can really add up
over time.
Lastly, after hearing of the recent Target breach, you may be concerned about
protecting your account. The good news is you have zero liability on your ECU
Visa debit and credit cards in the event of fraudulent activity. We also have robust
systems in place that can detect any unusual activity on your accounts and will
reach out to you to confirm this activity. You can also set up alerts for your debit
and credit cards and checking account to let you know about various activities,
like transactions over a certain dollar amount, when a deposit posts, when a
check clears, etc. These system alerts are in place to assure you that your account
is safe and secure at ECU!

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM FRAUD
The recent Target breach affecting over 40 million cardholders nationwide has heightened
everyone’s attention about fraud prevention and protection. Unfortunately, debit and credit
card fraud is an everyday occurrence, affecting ECU cardholders too! For your protection, we
continuously monitor your Earthmover VISA Debit Card and your Earthmover VISA Credit
Card for potential fraudulent activity. Unusual activity can trigger a fraud alert on your account.
Some examples of these types of activities include: a sudden change in locale, a sudden string of
costly purchases, or a pattern associated with new fraud trends around the world. If we suspect
fraud, we call you to validate the legitimacy of the transaction. Your participation in responding
to our calls is critical to prevent potential risk and avoid restrictions or potential blocks we may
place on the use of your card. Our goal is to minimize your exposure to risk and the impact of
any fraud. To ensure we can continue to reach you whenever potential fraud is detected, please
keep us informed of your current address and home and cell phone numbers. Other ways you
can help STOP fraud are to continually monitor your ECU VISA Debit Card transactions via
ECU’s Online Home or Mobile Phone Banking and your ECU VISA Credit Card transactions via
www.ezcardinfo.com. You can set up alerts to come to your phone or email too. As always, if

WOW!!! What a phenomenal year for 2013!
The Charity Committee raised over $18,000 for 2013! ECU received 2nd place in the state Dora
Maxwell Responsibility Award competition in the $200-$500M asset category!!! This award recognizes
credit unions for their social responsibility work and charitable projects that support its community.
Ending 2013, the charity committee raised $1,393 for Jason Becker, 15 of Oswego, who recently
was diagnosed with stage 2 Hodgkins Lymphoma. We also sold cookbooks for Tara Hanson, 36
from Aurora, who was involved in a softball accident, and raised over $1,600! Thank you to all our
employees and members for helping out these deserving families.
‘Tis the season for giving!
We accepted canned goods for the Aurora Area
Interfaith Food Pantry, and volunteered at the
warehouse sorting food for the holiday season. We also
donated many toys for the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for
Tots program, and raised $338.98!
