Music to watch The channel MTV went on the air in 1981 in the USA and aired in Europe in 1987. Chomp away The arcade and video game “Pac-Man” was released in July, 1980 in Japan. It is tough not to love something so simple: the round yellow fellow has to gobble up points in a labyrinth while being followed by ghosts. A decade of contrasts At the beginning of the 1980s, punk spread across the entire world while the term yuppies also surfaced for the first time. Punks with a more left-wing approach on one side and conservative business people on the other – it hardly gets more contradictory than that! Music to go In the year 1979, the first Walkman was launched by Sony. It then quickly became a status symbol in the Eighties and was adopted as a sign of a new way of life by the youth of that decade. credits ► Home technology On August 12th 1981, the first computer from IBM was made available to private customers. Instead of a hard drive, it came with one or two floppy disc drives. It was the beginning of a development that has made advancements such as online shops possible! © WGSN Beauty Insider All polished up!
