2015 UPIKE Bears Football UPIKE (2-5, 1-0 MSC East) at No. 24 Cumberlands (5-2, 2-0 MSC East) Oct. 24, 2015 | James H. Taylor, II Stadium | Williamsburg, Ky. | 1:36 p.m. ET | Z-Rock 107.5 FM (EKB) | THIS TV Network TODAY’S MATCH-UP • WYMT will be on hand to televise the game live on its This TV Network. It is the second time in the last three seasons that the Bears and Patriots have met on television. For those without the This TV Network, there is also a live stream available via the Cumberlands athletic department at portal. stretchinternet.com/cumberlands/. • While it hasn’t been the overall start UPIKE hoped for at 2-5, there is still plenty left to play for over the final four games of the season. With two bids to the NAIA National Playoffs available for MSC teams, the East and West Division champions will both advance to the postseason. The Bears are 1-0 in the East after topping Bluefield (Va.) in the season opener. Left on the schedule are divisional-foes Cumberlands (5-2), Union (0-6), Kentucky Christian (0-7) and Georgetown (3-4). • Taking a look at the all-time series between Pikeville and Cumberlands, the Patriots lead 8-4 overall, including a 5-1 record over the last six meetings. Last season’s 22-7 win for the Bears on the road was their first over the Patriots since 2006. • Sani Warren is expected to return at quarterback for UPIKE after missing the Campbellsville game due to injury two weeks ago. Although all three quarterbacks on the roster have taken their share of snaps, and could all play at any time, Warren has put up the biggest numbers, throwing for 1,291 yards with seven touchdowns and two interceptions. R.J. Rosemond Jr., had a good half starting at Campbellsville before going out with his own injury. In about a half of work, Rosemond Jr., ran for 70 yards and a touchdown while also throwing for 60 yards. Russell Gordon is 9 of 24 passing this season for 119 yards and two touchdowns. • Can Quan Weaver keep up his record-setting pace? That will be one of the biggest questions for the UPIKE offense as it faces a Patriot rushing defense that ranks 40th in the NAIA, allowing over 164 yards per game. Weaver is the sixth leading rusher in the nation, tallying 122.7 yards per game. Weaver’s effort at Campbellsville was the fifth best in program history, gaining a career-high 223 yards on the ground. The sophomore has also rushed for at least 100 yards in five of seven games this season. The record for the most 100-yard games in a season at UPIKE is seven. With four games left to be played, Weaver already has the sixth most yards gained by a running back in a season at UPIKE with 859. • UPIKE in the NAIA national stat rankings: Total rushing yards (15th, 1,559), first downs per game (16th, 23.4), total offense per game (18th, 436.3), rushing per game (19th, 222.7), total defense per game (33rd, 327), Quan Weaver total rushing yards (2nd, 859). at UPIKE Bears (2-5) 2014 Record: 5-6 (4-2 MSC East/3rd) 2015 Rank: NR Last: L, 42-34 at (RV) Campbellsville No. 24 Cumberlands Patriots (5-2) 2014 Record: 3-7 (2-4 MSC East/T4th) 2015 Rank: No. 24 Last: W, 56-17 at Kentucky Christian SERIES HISTORY Overall Record: Cumberlands leads 8-4 Last Meeting: UPIKE won 22-7 at Williamsburg, Ky., on Sept. 27, 2014.
