users with 3 CDLRs integrated (McDowell, Davie,

iSeries Cloud
•  About 30 LEAs enrolled for migration; About 25 have been migrated and
are operational in SAS iSeries NCEdCloud
•  SAS and DPI concluded on the pilot project past summer with 20
Migrations completed – a resounding success
•  First year hosting fees as well as cost of migration, initial OS upgrade,
and security audit is paid by RttT funding
•  RttT funding is time bound so please contact Jerry Bunn if and how you
can take advantage of this if you are not planning on migration in near
future
•  There is absolutely no reason to purchase a new iSeries in NC;
eventually all software on the iSeries will be migrated to modern
platforms

Application Performance
Management (APM)
●  Objective - Provide performance management tools to LEAs and
Charter Schools which facilitate the identification and remediation
of end-user performance issues
●  RFI and internal evaluation completed of HP, IBM, and CA
appliance-based service architectures in 2013
●  No viable solution identified from the RFI and internal evaluation,
i.e. benefits didn’t justify high cost and service complexity
●  Currently investigating network-based capabilities (e.g. Cisco
application visibility and control) versus the appliance-based
service architectures investigated initially

●  MCNC continues to support LEA and Charter School
migrations to cloud-based email services

System (NCLMS)
●  Bid is for a modern LMS service that is integrated with
PowerSchool, NCLOR and IAM systems
●  In procurement process at DPI, hope to release RFP
this month

Applicant Tracking System
•  Overview: Project to modernize and standardize the entire state on a
single job posting site for all public school jobs
•  Will replace the "front third" of HRMS and http://schooljobs.dpi.state.nc.us/
•  RFP developed by Friday Institute, DPI, HRMS Steering Committee and
HR staff at other LEAs
•  Site will allow applicants to enter their data only once for any position in
the state
•  Allows state to aggregate and recruit while giving each LEA the flexibility
to customize for their specific needs and brand
•  Will enable dashboards at the LEA and statewide level to help with
recruiting
•  Plan is to go live in the fall of 2014 following the busy season for LEAs

Mobile Device
Management (MDM)
●  Collaborative purchasing agreement - scope extended to be device
management platform to manage End User PCs, MACs, in addition
to mobile devices; scope includes Operating System (OS)
deployment and provisioning, software distribution, logging and
tracking, inventory management, patch management, and role
based management
●  Draft RFP submitted to NCDPI in January 2014, NCDPI
procurement review/edits in progress, approved draft RFP will be
forwarded to ITS for review and posting within the next two weeks

Note: Draft MDM RFP submitted in October 2012 was tabled by ITS pending the passage of legislation authorizing ITS
to negotiate collaborative purchasing agreements on-behalf of NCDPI. Legislation passed July 2013

●  Existing ITS SIP trunking contracts (AT&T, CenturyLink,
and Level3) were amended January 2013 to include line
side services, i.e. Hosted VoIP
●  Ongoing discussions with ITS about releasing an RFP
to increase the vendor options for LEAs and Charter

Opt-In Pilot District Roles
•  Serve as HBPDS district implementation planning team.
•  Dedicate at least two members of their Professional Development team
to contribute 25% of their time to execute the initiative from April –
August.
•  Participate in bi-weekly planning meetings which will be conducted

(location TBD).

NCDPI project team.
