From fashion to fast cars, all the party guests had a wonderful time raising awareness for the hospital. Set against the luxurious backdrop of Park Place Premier Collection, Accessible Luxury is one of Dallas’ most exciting events to hit the fashion scene. Patients, neighborhood children and staff families enjoyed an agricultural afternoon, learning about farm animals in a hands-on environment. Kids got to pet a wide range of animals as well as go fishing in the catfish tank. With face paint and food in the mix, it was truly fun for all. Thanks to all our staff who helped make this day come to life for so many kids. 3 4 5 Tartan Golf Classic: The Tartan Golf Classic teed off on a crisp and cool Monday morning at Brook Hollow Golf Club. Teams played a scramble-style tournament with hole-in-one challenges along the way. What you need to do by Oct. 31 to qualify for the gift card • Complete the “online wellness assessment” on United Healthcare’s website. • You can create an account at myuhc.com • Complete your biometric screen and physical with your primary physician. This includes blood lipid panel (LDL, HDL, total cholesterol and triglycerides), blood glucose, blood pressure, height, weight, waist circumference and BMI. • Don’t have a primary care physician? Contact the People Department or visit myuhc.com to learn about preferred physicians available to you. • Turn in your signed verification to the Wellness Center by Oct. 31. This award is given to someone who has made a significant contribution to improve services received by dyslexic Connie Wright, People Department individuals. Way to go! ›› Adriana De La Rocha earned her Ph.D. in public health with a specialty in biostatistics in clinical epidemiology. Congrats Adriana! ›› B. Stephens Richards, M.D., Jonathan Rios, M.D. and Jennifer Rodgers were awarded a $20,000 grant from the Texas Neurofibromatosis Foundation for their work on a new prospective project on the outcomes/treatment of CPT/NF1 patients. That’s awesome! ››Philip L. Wilson, M.D., had an article published in the Q4 2014 issue of the Pediatric Society of Greater Dallas Newsletter. Great job! ›› Lesley Wheeler has earned her masters in public health. Congrats Lesley! Out C 1 ongrats to Richard Adams, M.D.! Adams has been honored by Mental Health and Mental Retardation of Tarrant County (MHMR) as the 2015 Opening Doors Leader for his role in the Early Childhood Intervention field. “Dr. Adams has been a leader in our state advocating for services for children with developmental disabilities. We recognize him specifically for his work with Early Childhood Intervention,” said MHMR Visions Executive Director Nikki Hatley. This prestigious honor was awarded to Adams at the foundation’s eighth annual Opening Doors Dinner in Fort Worth. Great job! C 2 ongrats to Lori A. Karol, M.D.! Karol is the new president of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA). This is the first time in the organization’s 40-year history that POSNA has elected a female president. In response to her new appointment, Karol said, “I hope my election as president will help open up leadership positions to the young women physicians who are now training in residency programs or are newly in practice.” This is the third time a Scottish Rite surgeon has been the president of POSNA.
