1.1 SongBook+controlsthekeyboard
WhenasonginSongBook+isopened,SongBook+cansendMIDIcommandstoselectthe
correspondingregistrationintheconnectedkeyboard.Soyoudon’thavetomanually
switchanythingonkeyboardduringyourperformancetostartplayingthenextsong.
ThismethodfremotecontrolworkswithTyros2andlaterkeyboards,butnotwiththeTyros
1oranyPSRkeyboard.
1.2 KeyboardcontrolsSongBook+
Ifyouprefertoselectyoursongfromaregistrationonthekeyboard,thentheother
directionofremotecontrolisavailable.SongBook+canautomaticallyopenthematching
songanddisplaythecorrespondingPDFfileassoonasyouselectaregistrationonthe
keyboard.
Thistypeofremotecontrolworkswithallkeyboards.
2 CompatibleYAMAHAkeyboards
ThismanualshowshowthesettingsaremadeonaTyros5.TheconfigurationofotherTyros
modelsorPRSkeyboardsissimilar.NotethatolderPSRmodelssupportonly250filesper
folder,asopposedto500onaTyros.
WithTyros2andlaterkeyboards,bothmethodsofremotecontrolarepossible.Withthe
Tyros1andPSRkeyboards,onlymethod1.2(fromkeyboardtoSongBook+)isavailable.

SongBook+hasaMIDImonitorwhichcandisplayreceivedMIDIevents.Usingthis,youcan
checkthecommunicationwiththekeyboard.Justopenthiswindowandhavethekeyboard
sendsomeMIDIsignalstoSongBook+,e.g.bypressingkeys,byselectingaregistrationor
playingamidi(song)file.ThereceivedMIDIeventswillthenbedisplayed.
Iftheconnectionisnotestablishedautomatically(ie,noeventsaredisplayedinthe
Monitor),youmayneedtopressthe“RestartMIDI”buttonand/orreconnectyourcableto
theiPad.

3.1 UsingtheWiFistickofTyros5
TheUD-WL01WiFistickshippedwiththeTyros5canbeusedtoconnecttheiPadwiththe
Tyros5.TheTyros5canthenactasaWirelessMIDIServerandSongBook+istheWireless
MIDIClient.IntheMIDISettingsofSongBook+youactivatetheWirelessMIDIClientandadd
theIPaddressoftheTyros5ashost.Additionally,youmustenabletheoption“Alsosend
commandstoWi-Fi”.
TheeasiestwaytoconnecttheWiFistickisin“AccessPointMode“.TheIPaddressofthe
Tyrosisthen192.168.0.1.Alternatively,youcanintegratetheWiFistickintoanexistingWiFi
network,buttheIPaddressoftheTyroswillthenbedifferent.

3.2 UsingaBluetoothLEMIDIAdapter
YoucanalsofindwirelessMIDIAdaptersthatarerecognizedbytheoperatingsystemofthe
iPadasBluetoothMIDILEdevicesandthesecanbeusedbycompatibleapps.
PairingoftheadapterintheBluetoothsettingsoftheiPadisnotneeded.SongBook+hasa
“BluetoothLEMIDIdevices”functiontoestablishtheconnectiontotheadapter.
(e.g.YamahaMD-BT01,YamahaUT-BT01,QuiccoSoundmi.1,ZivixPUC+)
NotethattheBluetoothLEMIDIissupportedonlybyiPad3orlater.

3.3 UsingUSB-MIDIdirectlytothekeyboard
KeyboardswithaUSBtoHostportcanbeconnectedusingaUSBprintercable.AstheiPad
doesn’thaveaUSBconnection,youneedanadapter(commonlycalledacameraconnector)
toconnecttheiPadwiththeUSBcable.
NotethatwiththisconnectionitisnotpossibletochargetheiPadwhileit’sbeingused.
3.4 UsingaUSBMIDIadapter
ManyUSBtoMIDIcablescanbealsousedwiththeiPad.Thecableisconnectedtothe5-pin
MIDIport(eithermidiAormidiB).SincetheiPaddoesn’thaveaUSBconnection,youneed
acameraconnectortoconnecttheUSBendofthecabletotheiPad.
NotethatwiththisconnectionitisnotpossibletochargetheiPadwhileit’sbeingused.
ToavoidtheadapterdrainingtheiPad’sbattery,youcanuseanactiveUSBHub(withpower
supply)betweentheiPadandUSBMIDIadapter.
3.5 UsingaMIDIadapterthatcanbeconnecteddirectlytoiPad
YoucanalsofindMIDIcablesthataredesignedforusewithAppleiOSdevices(iPad,iPhone,
etc).Forthesecables,thecameraconnectorisnotneeded.

NotethatonlyafewoftheseadapterscanchargetheiPadwhileit’sbeingused.Consider
thatfeaturewhenbuyingsuchanadapter.

TheMIDIsettingsinSongBook+arethesameregardlessofthecontrolmethodused.In
SongBook+youselectthecorrectMIDIchannelandthecorrect“Controlmode”.
ThedefaultchannelisMIDIchannel1.IfyouwanttouseanotherMIDIchannel,youneedto
specifythisinthesettings.

Usingthisfeature,SongBook+canactivatearegistrationbankfromthecurrentfolder.
Ifneeded,itcanalsoactivateaspecificregistrationfromthe8registrationscontainedinthe
bank.
NotethatafolderintheTyroskeyboardcannotcontainmorethan500files.Thismeansa
maximumof500banksareavailabletoSongBook+(whenthefoldercontainsonly
registrationbankfiles).
5.1 Namingtheregistrationbanks
It’simportanttonotethat,whenusingthiscontrolmethod,theregistrationbankcanbe
selectedonlybyitsnumericalpositioninthefolder,e.g.the1st,2nd,3rd,…,499th,500th.
Becauseofthis,werecommendyounametheregistrationbanksstartingwitha3-digit
numbersotheyalwayskeeptheirnumericalpositioninthefolder.

InordertoselecttheregistrationbyMIDIcommandsfromSongBook+,thekeyboardneeds
somecorrespondingMIDIsettings.
WeassumeherethattheMIDIchannel1isusedtocontrolthekeyboardandthattheiPadis
connectedtoPORT1(MIDIA/USB1/WLAN).IfyouwanttouseanotherMIDIchannelor
anotherPORT,youneedtospecifyitasneeded.

Enterinthe“Code”fieldthenumberofthecorrespondingregistrationbankasa3-digit
number.Thiswillactivatethefirstregistrationofthatbankwhenyouopenasongin
SongBook+.
Ifyouprefertoactivateadifferentregistrationinthebank,justaddapointandanumber
between1and8tothecode,e.g.004.3forthe3rdregistrationinbanknumber4.

Usingthisfeature,selectingaregistrationonthekeyboardtriggersSongBook+toopenthe
correspondingPDFfile(todisplaythenotes,chords,lyrics,etc.).Thisisdonebyincludinga
midi(song)fileintheregistrationtoidentifythedesiredfile.
TherequiredMIDIfilescanbedownloadedfromtheSongBook+websiteusingthelinkin
chapter6.2.
AstheMIDIcontrolfiledoesn’tcontainanymusicnotes,thecontentisautomaticallyplayed
whenselectingtheregistration(aslongasthe“QuickStart”featureofthekeyboardisnot
disabled).ThismeansthePDFfileinSongBook+isautomaticallydisplayedwhenthe
registrationbuttonispressed.
IfyoualsowanttoplayanormalMIDI(song)file,youmustembedtherequiredmidi
commandsatthebeginningofthefile,using,forexample,SongCreatordirectlyonthe
keyboard.

InordertocontrolSongBook+usingthesesmallMIDIfiles,thekeyboardmustbeconfigured
accordingly.
WeassumeherethattheMIDIchannel1isusedtocontrolSongBook+andthattheiPadis
connectedtoPORT1(MIDIA/USB1/WLAN).IfyouwanttouseanotherMIDIchannelor
anotherport,youneedtospecifyitwhereneeded.

DownloadthepreparedsmallMIDIfilesfromtheSongBook+website:
àwww.baum-software.ch/downloads/DummyFiles/YamahaDummyMidis.zip
Extractthefilesfromthezipfile,andcopythenecessaryfilestothesamedriveyour
registrationsareon.Werecommendyouputthesefilesinasubfoldercalled“SongBook”.
First,adda3-digitnumbertothe“Code”fieldofSongBook+.ThenassigntheMIDIfilewith
thesamenumbertothefirstregistrationofthebank.Youdothisbyloadingyour
registration,selectingthemidifileusingtheSong(A)button,memorizingtheregistration
(ensuringtheSonggroupischecked),thensavingthebank.
Nowonselectingtheregistration,thecorrespondingsongisopenedinSongBook+andthe
PDFfileisdisplayed.
Ifyouwanttouseasingleregistrationpersong,youwillalsofindtherequiredMIDIfilesin
thedownload.Forexample,“SongBook_004.3”willloadthefilewithCodefield“004.3”.

7 Combinebothmethods
Itistechnicallypossibletocombinebothmethodsdescribedabove.Butbecausetoselect
songsinSongBook+theregistrationsmustbesortedbycode,andtoselectsongsinthe
keyboardyouprobablywantthesongstobesortedbyname,itdoesn’tmakemuchsenseto
combinebothmethods.
8 Alternativecontrolusingthe“MIDIwheels”ofSongBook+
InsteadofmappingwithasongnumberintheCodefield,youcanalsospecifytherequired
BankSelectMSB,BankSelectLSBandProgramChangecodeusingthe“MIDIwheels”inthe
songdetailsofSongBook+,thenactivatetheswitch“AutoopenonMIDIcommand”or“Send
MIDIcommandonopen”.
OlderusermanualsdescribethismethodofusingSongBook+withtheTyros.
UsingtheCodefielddoesexactlythesamethingbutissimplertoconfigureandrequiresless
MIDIknowledge.YouwouldneedtousetheMIDIwheelmethodonlyifyouhavemorethan
500songsinyourrepertoire.
