Which vehicles need to display a vignette?
Vehicles (cars, mobile homes, motorcycles) up to
and including 3.5 tonnes maximum gross vehicle
weight (GVW).
Where does the mandatory vignette
requirement apply?
Mandatory tolls apply to all motorways and
highways in Austria.
Do vehicles with interchangeable license
plates each require their own vignette?
Yes. It is a statutory requirement that the vignette
is associated with the vehicle, rather than with the
license plate.
Do I need an additional vignette for a trailer or
trailer home which is towed by a car?
No, as long as the towing vehicle is no more than
3.5 tonnes GVW, the vignette on the towing vehicle
willsuffice.
Is the mandatory vignette requirement
monitored?
Yes, compliance with the mandatory vignette
requirement is monitored: by ASFINAG‘s toll
enforcement units, the police and by automatic
vignette cameras.
It makes sense to buy a vignette: Anyone caught
by the police or ASFINAG without a valid vignette,
paysafineonthespot–€120forcars,and€65
