There are a several public parks in the San Antonio area who allow dogs on leashes, as well as, a few off-leash dog parks. Most request that you pickup after
yourselves, and you may need to carry proof of current Rabies vaccination.

This 320 acre park offers 5 miles of hiking and running trails. Picnic areas and restrooms are
available. Dogs on leash are allowed, and owners must clean up after their pets. The park is located
south of Camp Bullis.
There are over 6 miles of hiking and biking trails at this 800 plus acre park. Dogs on leash are
allowed, and owners must clean up after their pets. The park is adjacent to the San Antonio
International Airport. **There is also an off-leash dog park, located on the Starcrest side of the
park area. Located on the Starcrest side of the park, this off lead area offers about 1.5 acres,
exercise equipment, plenty of fire hydrants, benches, a walking trail, a covered picnic area, water for
hounds and humans, and restrooms. Dogs must be sociable, current on all vaccinations and license,
and under their owner's control at all times. Dogs must be leashed when not in designated off-lead
areas.
Bisected by the beautiful cypress tree lined Guadalupe River, this park offers a variety of recreational
and educational activities. Dogs are allowed throughout the park and the campground for no
additional fee; they are not allowed in buildings or in food service areas. Dogs may not be left
unattended at any time; they must be quiet, on no more than a 6 foot leash and under their owner's
immediate control at all times. Dogs are not allowed in designated swim areas or within the beach
and land area adjacent to the swim area.
This city park has a 1.5 acre designated dog park. The fenced in area has picnic tables, trash cans and
play features. Dog park hours are from 5am to 11pm every day.

Enchanted Rock State Park
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area consists of 1643.5 acres on Big Sandy Creek, north of
Fredericksburg, on the border between Gillespie and Llano Counties.
Government Canyon State Park
Government Canyon is a large park and nature preserve, just outside the 1604 loop, on the
NW side of town. Dogs on leashes are allowed in the front park of the park & trails.

O.P. Schnabel is located on the northwest side of San Antonio at the intersection of Bandera and Braun roads.
The park is home to a YMCA program, which has a building and leases several ball fields from the City of San
Antonio. However, it has many amenities available to the general public, including an accessible trail system for
joggers, hikers and bicyclists.

La Villita was the original settlement of Old San Antonio. It is one square block in the heart of
downtown, and has artists, craftsmen, shops and restaurants. Leashed dogs can accompany you
along the streets and window shop or enjoy the architecture of the historic Adobe and Victorian
buildings. For dining, try Guadalajara Grill, where well-behaved, leashed dogs are allowed at the
outdoor tables. La Villita is located on the east bank of the San Antonio River, near The Alamo. It is
located between the following streets: Villita, S. Presa, Alamo and Nueva.

Leashed dogs are allowed at this outdoor market. Inside Market Square is El Mercado, which is the
largest Mexican marketplace outside of Mexico. Here you can find pinatas, pottery, clothing and
more. You also might be able to listen to some live music throughout the market. The market is open
daily, except for Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. It is located in downtown
San Antonio, at W. Commerce Street and San Mateo Street. *Many reviews about this market
suggest that you should go earlier in the day with your pet. As the evening progresses, the music
gets louder and there’s more commotion, which may over-excite your dog.

and Sunday and is located off Hwy 123 near San Antonio and New Braunfels. The winery is part of the
Balcones Wine Trail.

This vineyard takes an individually handcrafted approach to producing their wines. Dogs are allowed to
explore the grounds; they are not allowed in the tasting room unless they can be hand carried. Dogs must

Dog-Friendly Restaurants
Many of the restaurants on our list specify that “well-behaved” dogs on leashes are permitted at their outdoor tables. The health department prevents dogs
from being allowed inside most food establishments.

There are several venues in the area who sponsor dog events, throughout the year. Keep an ear & an eye out for “Bark & Beers,” “Paws on the Patio,” etc.
Many of these benefit non-profits, such as the SPCA, Humane Societies, or the ADL.
