WELCOME TO THE 2014 MENDOCINO COUNTY
MUSHROOM, WINE & BEER FESTIVAL
As President and CEO of Visit Mendocino County, I’m
delighted to invite you to join us for our annual 10day Mushroom, Wine & Beer Festival. Each year in late
October, as the first rains start to fall, mushrooms flourish
in abundance in Mendocino County, which is home to
over 3,000 types of mushrooms. It’s the perfect place
to sample and pick some of the 500 types of delicious
edible mushrooms, such as chanterelles, porcinis,
morels, hedgehogs, and even the extremely rare candy cap mushroom, a
culinary treat with an intense maple syrup flavor, which grows only along
the northern coast of California (and makes for delicious ice cream!).
We craft an abundance of events for your delight: mushroom, winemaker,
and brewmaster dinners, mushroom exhibits, guided mushroom forays,
bike, kayak and equine adventures, wine and mushroom pairings, and
much more! Hunt for the biggest mushroom you can find and enter the
Mighty Mushroom Contest. You can also visit wineries and breweries
along the way to get your Passport stamped for a chance to win the
grand prize package!
Take your time to discover all that Mendocino County has to offer:
gourmet restaurants, unique inns, picturesque villages, friendly wineries,
outstanding breweries, majestic redwoods, and a rugged seaside.
Climb aboard the Mushroom, Wine & Beer Train, indulge yourself with
a gourmet mushroom feast at an amazing winemaker or brewmaster
dinner, then cozy up by the fire at the end of your perfect day in one of
Mendocino County’s inns or B&Bs. Rest up so you can start the next day
with an art class, join a foraging adventure, attend a performance, visit
our numerous galleries, or simply relax and do nothing at all.
We look forward to seeing you in November!
Scott Schneider
President & CEO, Visit Mendocino County, Inc.
Events take place throughout the County, from the inland valleys
to the coast. Plan your trip at www.visitmendocino.com

Do you fancy yourself a master mushroom hunter? Mycological guru Eric
Schramm wants to see just how good you are. This year we’re looking
for the biggest, heaviest mushroom you can dig up. There will be two
winners: one for the largest golden chanterelle (Cantharellus cibarius),
and one for the largest King Bolete (Boletus edulis). Winners and their
