Mandatory Commercial Recycling
Chapter 476, Statutes of 2011 (Chesbro, AB 341) sets forth the
requirements of the statewide mandatory commercial recycling.
Sounds serious! Well your chamber’s Green Committee is getting
ready to help local businesses understand just what they will be expected to do.
July 1st this law goes into effect. If your business generates more than 4 cu.
Yards of waste in a week you are required to begin a recycling program. However,
if you are not required, wouldn’t you like to begin best practices today. The Green
Committee is here to help you. If you would like more information about our Lafayette Green program, please visit our website and click on Community, and then
Green Lafayette. It’s easy, it’s the right thing to do and you’ll sleep better at night.

Chevalier Restaurant Named
Lafayette’s Small Business of the Year
Inspired by the warmth of Provence in his
home country of France, Chef/Owner
Philippe Chevalier brings to life his vision
for the ideal dining experience, a place
where the richness of life is savored through
wine, food and friends. Since opening in
2008, CHEVALIER continues to be rated
a top restaurant, receiving 3 Michelin Bib
Gourmand awards and named one of the 10
Best Restaurants of the East Bay by Diablo
Magazine. Add another nod as our Small
Business of the Year.
Through a lot of adversity, Philippe has been able to succeed in a tough
economy, a marginal location and a lot of competition in Lafayette. Not
only has he been recognized as one of the great chef’s of East Bay, he
proves it every night behind the kitchen window with world class faire.
Philippe has many regulars that rave about his food, the service and the
friendly relaxed atmosphere he has provided for diners in Lamorinda. We
are so fortunate to have Chevalier call Lafayette home. Chevalier will be
honored at a lunch on Friday, May 4th.
Farmers’ Market
Get ready for a change of venue. As of this writing, the market will be moving to Sunday mornings, 9:00 - 1:00pm in the lower lot of BART. Parking
behind Town Center will be available.
Streetscape Project
Taste of Lafayette Serves up
Lafayette’s best on May 15
Ah Springtime. What a wonderful time to take an evening stroll. And for
one night each year 450 ticket holders join us in our annual Restaurant
Walk as part of our month long Restaurant Row promotion. Last year, if
you remember, we did this with umbrellas. I can’t promise clear skies, but
I can promise delicious samples from our finest restaurants up and down
Mt. Diablo Blvd. Visit us at www.lafayettechamber.org for registration or
find the flyer in this newsletter. Yum!
Summer Series Coming to the Plaza Park
Fridays in the summer will never be same in Downtown Lafayette. Beginning on June 15th we present DANCING IN THE PLAZA in June.
Three Friday evenings at 7pm including a 50’s sock hop, square dancing
and a tribute to 70’s Disco. The comes MOVIES IN THE PLAZA in July.
The line-up features Field of Dreams, Jaws, The Muppets and Iron Man.
We start at dusk and popcorn is included. August brings us ROCK THE
PLAZA. Bands to be announced shortly. Dinner provided by the Rotary
Club of Lafayette.
Thank you to this year’s sponsors: C&M Party Props, Red House Studios, Whole Foods, itrim.us, Mechanics Bank, Minuteman Press, the City
of Lafayette and the Lafayette Chamber.
Rain aside, it looks like the beautification project along Mt. Diablo Blvd.
will be completed sometime in mid July. Once completed, all sidewalks in
the Downtown core will be completed with pavers, benches, bicycle racks
and new parking meters.
DSP – It’s the song that never ends!
After 5 ½ years, well over 100 public meetings, volumes of notes, rewrites
and discussions, this song may come to an end after all. The Downtown
Specific Plan goes before the Planning Commission on May 21st to adopt
by resolution the recommendations to the City Council for the DSP, EIR
and General Plan amendments. Then the City Council will get it’s first
look at the revisions on June 11. More meetings with the council will
be added to the calendar. Business and Property Owners should at the
very least check in on the city website and look at project to date at www.
ci.lafayette.ca.us. To add your comments or concerns please contact Ann
Merideth at [email protected] or call 925-299-3218 or email
[email protected]
Major issues will include the height and mass of new buildings, zoning,
downtown housing and views of the hillsides.
