“It's deja vu all over again.” I agree with Yogi Berra, it was truly just a few months ago when we were talking about Season Openers and Kickoffs and now we are winding down for the final game and heading to San Antonio for the end of season Super Bowl spectacular we call Bid Fest! We are mixing up the game plan some this year in terms of business format but we haven’t forgoLen to add the party to Bid Fest. We hope you like it; Demeatra Reed, Chairman and Peggy Montgomery has been working hard to make it a memorable weekend!
Arrive early in San Antonio April 1, for an aTernoon of Top Golf benefiWng the Texas Ski Council Youth FoundaXon. We had great success with this event last year and it was a terrific format for vendors and delegates to get some mix and mingle Xme in together. Not to menXon a lot of fun. We will call the delegate’s meeXng to order Friday night aTer the Drury Happy Hour with presentaXons for our Summer and Winter ExpediXon trips. We will reconvene Saturday morning wrapping up the ExpediXon trips and presenXng the DomesXc trips all by about lunch Xme. The objecXve of this early wrap up of presentaXons is to be able to select the successful vendors and desXnaXons on Saturday before the Ski Show which will be later on Saturday aTernoon. Rumor is that the vendors feel they can market club trips to the delegates more successfully with the announcement of the 2016/2017 TSC slate of trips before the ski show! We are also spicing up the ski show this season by including beer and wine as well as a new “passport” game that you won’t want to miss! The “passport” game will be the key to winning a treat for the 2017 selected TradiXonal Venue on Sunday morning! We will grab a box lunch and start our caucusing during lunch wrapping up with voXng and announcement of the 2016/2017 slate and followed by the ski show. The real party starts Saturday night with “ The Best of the West” Black and White party complete with dinner and live music! Step back up to the plate Sunday morning for the fabulous Drury breakfast and we will be ready to announce the TSC slate of officers for the new year and give away the “passport” prize for TradiXonal. The delegates would like to see Sunday morning open up some interacXve round table discussions between clubs for 2016/2017 club trip desXnaXons and we will use the Xme to plan our delegate meeXngs for the coming year and even the 2017 Bid Fest locaXon! If you haven’t registered already there is sXll a liLle Xme so make that dash to home plate!
Bid Fest 2016 is also the Xme to hand the baton over to a new TSC President for 2016/2017. I would like to thank the delegates and the Board for allowing me to serve as President of the TSC for the past two years. It has truly been an honor to have your trust. I have thoroughly enjoyed geWng to know and work with so many great club members and vendors who support skiing, snowboarding and yes adventure! I hope I have done the posiXon some jusXce and look forward to conXnuing to work with the new board in the coming year! I know together we can conXnue the TSC Legacy! “It ain't over Xll it's over” so see you in San Antonio!

Marketing Update
by Marsha Lutz, VP - Marketing
It is done! My Pre-‐Select CommiLee and I managed to create a “short list” of 24 bids from our 55 submiLals. Next the delegates at BidFest on April 1 -‐3 must choose 5 from the 24. It is never easy when you have such a wide variety from ski resorts in the Western U.S. to Japan or Europe and summer travel to beauXful landscapes across much of Europe. The hard work of the Pre-‐Select CommiLee is just the first step in a long process of trip planning. This is not a one person job; it takes a team of people willing to spend a considerable amount of Xme geWng into the details. I had the following great people serving on the commiLee:

Snowmass, Colorado - TSC Traditional
January 9-16, 2016
by George Kelly, VP - Traditional
There was a total of 278 ski club members on this trip from 9 clubs: Armadillo, AusXn, Capital, Clear Lake, Club St. Bernard, Lone Star, Los Amigos, Space City and Texas Twisters, plus ONE from Dallas if I count!
The week started with a fantasXc Welcome Party. I heard many comments that this was the absolute best welcome event praising the locaXon, the quality of the food, the amount of food and the ease in geWng a drink, with two bars set up. Other events during the week was a so called “wine tasXng” but my version of a tasXng is geWng about one ounce poured into a glass. This was actually a wine “guzzling” with the pours almost filling the glass! Again, I heard nothing but praise about this event.
The weather really cooperated with lots of sunshine, but it came at the cost of a lack of new snow falling from the sky. Page 2

The mid-‐week lunch at the Spider Sabich picnic area went off without a hitch at the compleXon of the club and individual racing event. For the non-‐skiers that could not get to Spider Sabich, they were given a $20 lunch voucher and a free pass on the gondola to have lunch at the top of Elk Camp.
As to the race event, there was a major problem which we did not know about unXl we received the NASTAR race results and started the process of recording the results per club on Thursday evening. The problem , as it turns out, was a glitch in a new version of soTware NASTAR had loaded onto their race computer Tuesday prior to our race on Wednesday. The computer failed to record several of the racers Xmes or even failed to show that they raced. We did not figure this out unXl Friday when Ross Baker, TSC Race Director, stepped up to contact not only the Snowmass race department but also three NASTAR individuals in their race depart. He worked Xrelessly most of Friday trying to retrieve the missing informaXon. Snowmass did have their computer recording some of the race Xmes, and between the NASTAR and Snowmass computer Ross was able to correct about 50 percent of the inaccurate informaXon. His efforts conXnue for over a week aTer the trip ended. The Snowmass race director apologized for the problems and returned the cost of racing and the private course fee. The NASTAR officials Ross contacted only offered apologies.
At the Farewell Dinner on Friday, with the excepXon of the problems with the race results, I was told over and over how great the dinner, the food and the music was. Many acclaimed it was the absolutely the best they have had on recent TSC trips.
Sara Clemons of Sports America really did an excellent job in working with each club in arranging their lodging and transportaXon requirements and in arranging the Welcome Party, the Wine TasXng, Spider Sabich mid-‐week lunch, vouchers for the non-‐skiers, and the Farewell Dinner and Dancing at the WesXn Hotel. It is too bad that she suffered an injury to her hand and had to depart mid-‐week. I think she would have received a standing ovaXon from all of us if she had been able to be with us at the Farewell Dinner and Dance. The success of this trip was due to her efforts!
Thanks to all of you for being on the TradiXonal – Snowmass 2016 ski trip.

Québec City, Canada - TSC Winter Expedition
January 31 - February 7, 2016
by Derlyn Gordon, Winter Expedition Coordinator
Si vous n'êtes pas dans la ville de Québec avec le TSC Janvier 31-‐
Février 7, 2016, nous sommes désolés! (If you were not in Quebec City with the TSC January 31-‐
February 7, 2016, we are so sorry!) Nous avons tous eu un temps fabuleux. (We all had a fabulous Xme!) Many skied Mont-‐Saint-‐Anne on Monday where we experienced skiing in the rain. We were furnished with our Mont-‐Saint-‐Anne garbage bag to protect us from the rain and wind. Non-‐skiers began their sight-‐seeing adventures. Tuesday, we had a sunny day at Stoneham Mountain. Snow was in a much beLer condiXon than it was on Monday. On Wednesday, we experienced snow and some powder at Le Massif. AdapXng to totally different snow condiXons proved to be a bit more challenging for some of us, others never missed a beat and had a wonderful day. Can you believe the trip leader almost missed the bus—
last one to the bus! Told you some of it was challenging! Some who missed Mont-‐Saint-‐Anne on Monday skied it on Friday and had a beauXful day. Tim Lantz even tried rodeling which was about a forty-‐
five mph sled ride! He is an expert skier and said it was a bit fast for him. I had planned to do it with a few others but transportaXon was an issue so we opted to do something else. ATer skiing on Tuesday, we went to the Ice Hotel. The non-‐skiers joined us, so almost the whole group was there. It was a fun Xme! Many of us had our opinion as to whether or not we would sleep in the minus five degree temperature at a cost of $400 per night! Many of us toured the city on Thursday. Our guide on the walking tour was fabulous. We walked through the city for about three hours. We saw the preserved basement of the Quebec Castle which was destroyed in one of the six aLacks of Quebec City. Other sites were the Statue of Champlain, St. Lawrence River and port, the ForXficaXon of Quebec, the Citadel, carnival site, Laval University, and Cathedral Basilica Notre-‐Dame-‐de-‐Quebec where the Holy Door was opened. Many of us went back for a second walk through the Holy Door. We saw Hotel de Ville (City Hall), Plains of Abraham, oldest house in Quebec City which is now a restaurant, Aux Aciens Canadiens, 1675, and Parliament. We enjoyed shopping in PeXt-‐Champlain District as well as other shopping sites. We also experienced the art gallery alley. Bonhomme was seen around town and at the Winter Carnival. We started the Carnival with a tour of Bonhomme home, the Ice Palace. We went on a sleigh ride through the Plain of Abraham, went dog sledding, rode the Ferris wheel, tried a hot maple drink and rolled maple taffy, went sledding and just enjoyed ourselves at the Winter Carnival. Several tried ice fishing and were successful while others were not. It was fun but cold and really Page 4

cold if you didn't catch anything! Those that were lucky to catch one, took it to the restaurant where they cooked it for you. It was definitely a delicious fresh catch of the day! We enjoyed French Canadian cuisine all week and at the different club dinners. PouXne Week was taking place so we had to try pouXne at many places to decide our favorite. PouXne is French Fries, gravy, and cheese curds. The different gravies gave them quite a different taste.
We had fiTy-‐seven people, twenty skier/ site-‐seers, and thirty-‐seven site-‐seers. We had a few minor injuries but none were serious. Ronald had to leave early due to the birth of a grandchild. George missed his first day of skiing because the airline lost his skis. All in all, we had a great trip as we tried to brush up on our French with a Texas accent and made some wonderf

(So if you missed our trip to Quebec City, you must be sure to make the trip someday. Our TSC friends were fantasXc! The Canadians were friendly and helpful. Sun Peaks, Canada - TSC Winter Shootout
February 13-20, 2016
by Ann Rogers, VP - Winter Shootout
We had a great week in Sun Peaks! Three clubs, three mountains, three Xmes the skiable acres! Clear Lake, Club St. Bernard and Space City brought 37 Texans to this quaint resort in BriXsh Columbia, Canada. Most of us flew into Kamloops airport and then had a short shuLle ride to the resort. However, some folks opted to rent cars and make the drive from either SeaLle or Vancouver, they wanted to enjoy the beauXful scenery along the way. The end result was safe travels for everyone.
We arrived at the start of a busy Presidents Day week for the resort, however, it was not overrun with skiers. One of the advantages of traveling to a resort not on the main travel route for Texans! There was no shortage of snow all week long. It was either snowing during the night or during the day. This was a great year for snowfall at Sun Peaks.
The Welcome Party was Sunday night in the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel. Sandy and Cathy Best of Ski Canada were in aLendance to welcome everyone to the party. There were plenty of Page 5

Danube River Bike/Barge & Munich
Oktoberfest Extension - TSC Summer Expedition
September 25 - October 2, 2016
by Tere Mayne, Summer Expedition Coordinator
I love to travel and see new sites, meet interesXng people and sample new foods. But I also like to get the biggest bang for my buck when I travel. I sXll want to see and experience it all, but I don’t have a lot of Xme or money to get it. All of this means the hecXc moving from place to place and packing of your things each Xme. Yikes! What a hassle. Reminds me of that movie from the late 60’s, “If It’s Tuesday This Must Be Belgium”, where a group tours many places in the interest of visiXng the most in one trip. Not sure that would be a memorable experience for me.
I’m sure tour operators have tried various ways to ease your travel pains and sXll offer you a great bang for your travel buck. They offer longer hotel stays, sample smaller areas for longer periods or uXlize the spoke/hub situaXon, offering daily excursions from a central locaXon. Each of these ideas work, and I have parXcipated in them, but what if there was a beLer way to efficiently move from place to place, remove the hassle of packing/unpacking and sXll see and experience more.
What if your hotel could move every night with you and all your stuff? Wouldn’t that give you and me the biggest bang for our buck? That is where River Cruising has emerged. The floaXng hotel concept, and the advantage of not having to pack and re-‐pack at every stop, is very similar to an ocean liner. But that is about all they have in common as the experience is quite different. Cruising on the river is focused on each unique desXnaXon. Whereas the ocean cruise is more focused on the ship and the amiXes it offers. Sure you do visit various ports of call, but there is usually lots of travel Xme between the ship and the desXnaXon. While the river cruise travels into the heart of the city where you want to visit. And there is another difference in the size of the facility each use. The ocean liner can someXmes accommodate a small city with thousands of passengers. The river boat is usually small and more inXmate, holding less than two hundred people. Let me introduce the Danube Impressions River Cruise. One of the reason I like to travel is to learn about other cultures and their history. The Danube Impressions trip will offer both the convenience of river travel and the ability to learn more history and culture of Europe. The Danube River is strategically important as a means of transport and trade since the dawn of history. A preferred route of travel by rulers since ancient Xmes, the Danube has long been called “the river of kings.” Ancient Greeks navigated up the Danube from the Black Sea, as far as the Iron Gate. The river served for centuries as the northern fronXer for much of the Roman Empire. River transport was developed by the Romans; many ciXes along the Danube began as Roman military outposts. In medieval Xmes, goods were moved either by boat or barge, or along its banks, fostering development of the Habsburg and Hungarian empires.
The Danube River flows directly through many significant European ciXes, including four naXonal capitals – Vienna (Austria), BraXslava (Slovakia), Budapest (Hungary) and Belgrade (Serbia); other key ciXes are located nearby. Our river cruise will travel through and stop at two of those ciXes: Vienna and BraXslava, where you will have the opportunity to visit and experience their sites and culture. And not only do we cruise to various stops along the river, we go up close and personal through the countryside, towns and villages by bike! Here is our travel iXnerary for the week:
Day 1 – Passau since we depart at 5pm, you have plenty of Xme to explore the "City of three Rivers" prior to boarding.
Day 2 – Mauthausen to Grein where you can enjoy the meadow landscape and visit the medieval village and former concentraXon camp at Mauthausen. Day 3 – Grein to Melk to Tulln, here the valley expands from Persenbeug and the bike tour leads you further to Melk with its gorgeous baroque monastery of the BenedicXn brethren. Page 7

Day 4 – Devin to Bra1slava from Devin you follow the former ‘Iron Curtain’, cross the former capital of Hungary, BraXslava.
Day 5 – Vienna touring the city, you will experience Vienna’s most famous examples of architecture: the imperial Ho•urg, St. Stephens Cathedral, the gorgeous ‘Ring’-‐boulevard and the State Opera House, the Burgtheater and town hall and, of course,
the colorful "Hundertwasserhaus". Day 6 – Wachau/Rossatz-‐Emmersdorf the hilly landscape enchants everybody as you will be
biking on cloud nine, where you spot the blue spire of the monastery church of Wachau. You will find comfortable wine taverns right along the bike path as well.
Day 7 – Great Danube Loop-‐Engelhartszell here you will cycle through the Danube Valley and
pass through many picturesque villages, but be sure to follow the small walking trail to the lookout high above the Danube Loop for a breathtaking panoramic view of the Danube Valley.
Day 7 – Passau where we disembarkaXon approximately 9.30 am and either return home or conXnues your stay in Passau.
You might be asking how fit you need to be to enjoy this trip. Well this route is flat as a pancake. If you like cycling and can do a 20 mile ride, which means two to three hours on the saddle, you can do it. SXll, the more you ride before your bicycle tour, the more you'll enjoy it. Nothing prepares you for a bike tour like "Xme on a bike." But don't wait unXl two weeks before.
What an amazing cycling vaca/on you will have aboard the MS My Story! Reside and dine in luxury during the evenings and during the day get an up close and personal view of the enchanXng Danube River while cycling. Just think, all the historical sites and no hecXc packing and unpacking. And do it all with your Texas Ski Council friends. What more could you ask for?

The Final Showdown was truly a trip to remember. We stayed at the fabulous Chateau Lake Louise and 140 ski/snowboard enthusiasts from seven clubs enjoyed a combinaXon of sunny days and snowy days. A true Winter Wonderland. We had country music, rock & roll music, tubing, shopping, spa, sleigh rides, racing and a number of acXviXes that leT us all with fond and lasXng memories.
