10 things we love
STYLE Bazaar “The Gucci pearl-heeled loafer is already in high demand,” says Natalie Kingham, buying director at matchesfashion.com. “Over the past few seasons, we’ve noticed a shift towards block heels. It started with boots, and now has moved onto other styles.” The shoe, worn with the back squished in, is just one of the retro touches that is beginning to define Gucci under Alessandro Michele. “I was most excited about him taking over the helm at Gucci,” adds Kingham. “He has brought an eclectic edge to the luxury house. I love the cool, wearable aesthetic of the collection that can be easily mixed with your existing wardrobe. We really invested in the buy this season, and it is already selling out fast.” ä Gucci shoes, price upon request. 10 THINGS WE LOVE The best of trends, accessories, and transformations in fashion this Spring 2016 48 DON PENNY/STUDIO D PEARLY GAITS STYLE Bazaar Dior A hill of delphiniums at the Louvre for Dior,a beach forTommy Hilfiger,an SETTING artistic installation at GiorgioArmani, THE MOOD and an airport for Chanel:Welcome to the era of the superset. Ironically, while elaborate venues are new for this century, they’ve been done before, especially in the ’80s (rememberVersace’s crazy setups?). While the later decades of the last millennium come back in fashion, why shouldn’t the style of showing them revive, too? ➤ Chanel 50 Giorgio Armani COURTESY: IMAXTREE, GETTY IMAGES Tommy Hilfiger STYLE Bazaar Liris Crosse at Ashley Nell Tipton for Project Runway Spring 2016 Diversity on the runway has been a hot topic in fashion for many years. And with Beth Ditto walking for Marc Jacobs, Liris Crosse for the Spring 2016 Project Runway show featuring its first plus-sized designer Ashley Nell Tipton, transgender modelsAndeja Pejic and Ines Loan Rau sashaying down the ramp for Giles and Nicole Miller respectively, it seems as if designers have finally decided to take a stance. It wasn’t just limited to the runway—Marc Jacobs also picked Lana Wachowski as the new face of his brand and LouisVuitton dressed Jaden Smith in a skirt for its Spring 2016 campaign.ä 52 Ines Loan Rau at Nicole Miller COURTESY IMAXTREE, XXXXXXXXXXX FRAZER HARRISON/GETTY IMAGES THE NEW MUSES STYLE Bazaar T THE I BAG As dainty prairie dresses and lacy ’90s slip dresses step out into their own this season, slouchy bags fill a niche for more comfortable and softer accessories. The options at Christopher Kane, Céline, BCBGMaxAzria, and Loewe come with a simplicity and ease that complement the mood across ramps this spring. ä DENIMS REDEFINED From skinny to tattered boyfriend ,the classic jeans have many avatars. This season, however, designers showed more precious versions of denims with a couture-like quality. “We are seeing a lot of new interpretations of denim, what was previously destroyed is now embroidered and embellished,”says Ludivine Chauvel, buying team manager at luisaviaroma.com. Look to Roberto Cavalli, Acne, and Ashish N Soni for the best of this update. 54 (From top) Céline, Christopher Kane, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, bags. All price upon request. STYLE Bazaar Backstage at Delpozo A classic, the oxford shirt has come out as a surprise element this season as one of the most experimented-upon pieces. From the ruffles added to a plunging neckline at Tome and an asymmetric off-shoulder cut by Zac Posen to a midi, knotted option at 3.1 Phillip Lim, designers reconstructed the classic white shirt into newer versions. Our favourite: The folded-and-draped crispy white at Delpozo. ä 58 COURTESY IMAXTREE XXXXXXXXXXX THE KEY PIECE STYLE Bazaar Balenciaga Gucci Givenchy Vetements EXPERT SPEAK SARA MAGGIONI, DIRECTOR OF RETAIL & BUYING AT WGSN What’s the one piece that will change fashion? I don’t think there will be just one piece that will change fashion dramatically, but in general, a return to femininity will be one of the most important messages of the season. You can see it in key trends such as sport-inspired and minimal looks as well. Plus, ruffles, off-shoulder necklines, florals, and at a more directional level, slip dresses and the camisole are coming through as important pieces. Sara Maggioni Who is shaking up the industry right now? The surprise designers, for me, have been Vetements. The brand essentially reworks familiar pieces like biker and bomber jackets, stone-washed jeans, and floral dresses in deconstructed designs and oversized proportions that feel new yet wearable. Gucci has done something similar in Milan: Moving away from the typical glam look to a completely different, kookier, vintage-inspired aesthetic. An evolution of wide car-wash pleats in Fall 2015, knife pleats stand out and lend structure to otherwise flowy styles at Stella McCartney,Carolina Herrera, and Emilio Pucci.Closer to home,Debarun,Péro by Aneeth Arora, and TarunTahiliani took an innovative turn, adding them to chiffon and nightwear inspired cotton tops. Look to Balmain, GiambattistaValli, Bibhu Mohapatra, and Dolce & Gabbana for dresses. And for accessories, there’s Hermès, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Versace. Pair the hue with a floral jacket or bag for a fresh summer vibe, with pastel pink sheers for an eclectic ensemble, or with bold prints for a bohemian touch. ä (Clockwise from top left) Dolce & Gabbana dress at modaoperandi.com, `2,06,000 (approx).
