Introduction
T
the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), for several years had been organising two
separate seminars related to plantation labour, namely 1) Palm Industry Labour:
Issues, Performance & Sustainability (PILIPS) and 2) Oil Palm Mechanisation (PalmMech).
As labour and mechanisation are in tandem in enhancing productivity, MPOB is combining
these two seminars. This 2-in-1 seminar is known as PILIPS & PalmMech Seminar. The
inaugural Seminar in 2016 is themed Synchronising Labour & Mechanisation: Redesigning
Approaches, is in line with the objectives of the National Key Economic Area for Palm
Oil (NKEA-PO) in increasing productivity and reducing labour through mechanisation. It is
well known that the plantation sector is facing labour problems and ever escalating cost
of production. For the industry to remain competitive, productivity needs to be further
enhanced through improved mechanisation in field operations. The seminar providers
a platform for members the industry to share information and views on current labour
and mechanisation issues, generate new ideas, formulate strategies, seek investment
opportunities and adopt new technologies. The seminar also providers networking
opportunities among the industry players.
Objectives
