We so appreciate your presence and your support. Our Auction Committee has worked hard to make this a truly enjoyable evening—one that is filled with fun, excitement, energy, friendship, and lots of good memories. Speaking of memories, the theme for Auction 2016 is one that will bring back lots of memories for all of us—“Monopoly Mania.” Who among us does not remember picking our favorite token, placing it on “Go” and preparing for a long night of fun with family and friends? We hoped that “Chance” would smile upon us, that the “Community Chest” would hold some surprise treasures, and that we would end up owning Park Place or Boardwalk— with hotels! Our plan for tonight is that those happy memories will flood over you as you enter our beautifully and creatively decorated Parish Hall, and that you will leave with more happy memories. Of course, the beneficiaries of this evening are the children of our parish school. Without the proceeds from this annual event over the past 31 years, we would not be able to provide the breadth and depth of curricular and extracurricular programs that support our children’s education. We are deeply grateful for your generosity. So please wander down Baltic and Connecticut Avenues to St. James Place, and on to Marvin Gardens and Boardwalk, with a few stops at the Railroads and Water Works. We hope you will agree that we have offered a “monopoly” on fun for a few hours. I would like to take a moment to thank the people who have worked so hard planning and executing Auction 2016. Chairperson Michelle Miller is in her third year in this role, and all of us at SJC know how fortunate we are to have a leader of her caliber guiding our Auction Committee. She is a fountain of creativity and energy, and all who work with her appreciate her positive support, open communication, and willingness to work hard. Holly O’Boyle and Katherine Garlepp served as coordinators of our gift database, gift set-up, and donor acknowledgments, as well as catalog writing. Thanks are also extended to Khim Foo (gift solicitation); Serena Suwandi (gift presentation and distribution); Nancy Roberts (publicity, and catalog layout and production); Robyn Calvetti, Mary Ellen Gambucci, Jennifer Roth, Rick Cardenas (decorations); Desi Thrower (invitations); Joanne Koering (reservations); Jeane Walden (raffle); Mauricio Palomar (food and hall set-up); Freddy Lopez (bar and beverages); Stephanie Babusis (gift helper); David Deanda (check-in/check-out); Tarun Bhagwan and Michael Lee (website); Bruno Garlepp (master of ceremonies); Mark Ibanez (oral auctioneer). In a final note of gratitude, may I thank Holly O’Boyle and David Deanda, who have both been dedicated members of our Auction Committee for many, many years. Holly is “graduating” with her youngest this year after 13 years of service on Gifts and Database (Holly, can we convince you to come back?? ) and David has served as our Check-In/CheckOut Coordinator for almost 20 years! We are so grateful for the amazing work of both of these wonderful people. In closing, the Auction Committee and I want to thank all of you on behalf of 320 SJC children, from our “Junior Jaguar” Preschoolers all the way through to our Eighth Graders, who are preparing for high school. Your support has enabled St. Joseph of Cupertino School to be a beacon of educational excellence in the Catholic tradition. Thank you! Please bring your catalog to the Auction. All items in the Silent Auction have bid sheets attached or affixed nearby. Make a bid by writing your paddle number, your name, and your bid amount on the bid sheet. For terms that are subject to a minimum bid, each new bid amount must exceed the previous bid by at least the amount of the bid increment. Each new bid must be written on the next available blank line. (Invalid bids will be removed.) For items with a Fixed Price, the bid amount is the same for each bidder. Add your name to the bid sheet, at the Fixed Price and you will take home one of the items, while supplies last. If there are not enough items for all bidders, then items will be delivered in the order of the bids. Some items will have a Buy Now Price. By adding your paddle number and name to the Buy Now line, you will be guaranteed this item. Under no circumstances may the bid sheet be removed from the bidding table. The auction item will be sold to the highest bidder on the bid sheet at the end of the bidding. In the event of a dispute, the decision of the Auction Official will be final. All items are sold “as is.” All sales are final. There will be no refunds or exchanges. Payment for items purchased must be made in full this evening when the bidder is ready to leave. Payment may be made in cash, by check, or by major credit card (Visa or MasterCard). Page 11 Live Auction Rules The week of the auction, items may be viewed in the library, by contacting the donor, or by viewing them outside the office after school. On auction night, all items may be viewed at the Live Auction table. Live auction items may not be removed from the viewing table at anytime. The auctioneer declares the winner of each item. For reproducible items and class projects, write your name and paddle number on the bid sheet and you will receive this item at the stated price. Some items will be available at the conclusion of the event. Others will need to be ordered and purchasers will be contacted upon arrival. The Gift Runners will retrieve the item and hand it to the winner. Check Out Instructions 1) Check Results as Each Table Closes Results will be posted shortly after each table closes. Check these sheets for the winning paddle number and amount for each item. 2) Pay and Receive Items in the Art Room – Enter through Courtyard Only Approximately 15 minutes following the end of the live auction, receipts will be available for pick up. The class basket and teacher treat tables close after the live auction. If you are the winning bidder of a class basket or teacher treat, we will print the final receipt for you at the receipt table, after these tables close. a) There will be three lines at check out where you will hand in your paddle. b) Staff will have you verify accuracy of your account. Then payment will be made and you will be handed your receipt and a separate receipt for any tax deductible items. c) Once you have your receipt, proceed to the Gift Runner’s Table outside. Please DO NOT retrieve items from the auction tables yourself. This will make it impossible for the staff to account for all of the items. The runners will hand you your gift certificates and retrieve the baskets and other items from the auction tables for you. Page 12 Last T ycoon standing HELP US COMPLETE THE SISTER PETER JOSEPH LEARNING CENTER PROJECT! During 2015's Last Gem Standing, we asked for your support in building a new multi-functional learning center that would benefit all grade levels, and you responded with tremendous generosity. As you will recall, although we had initial approval from the City of Cupertino and the Diocese of San Jose, we ran into some major problems receiving a final building permit from the City of Cupertino. In consultation with the School Board, we remained committed to the project. We worked diligently with the city to address their concerns, which included several additional steps involving demolition and retrofitting. We are happy to report that we were successful, and the city issued a building permit in February. We immediately began construction, and are now on pace to finish the Sister Peter Joseph Learning Center in mid-May 2016. We are thrilled that the Learning Center will soon be completed. However, we are now asking for your support in funding the additional requirements from the City of Cupertino. The requirements to remove breezeways, solar panels, and office windows; relocate bathroom doors; and fire rate existing office walls has added approximately $50,000 to the cost of this project. We need your help to fully fund this project. HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO HELP JOIN IN THE "LAST-TYCOON-STANDING" Here's How it Works 1) The Live Auctioneer will ask all Tycoons to stand if they are willing to donate to this fund. 2) The auctioneer will call out the amount, $50, $100, $150, ... Want to keep going? Just keep standing. No need to raise your paddle until you've reached your desired donation level. Then raise your paddle and remain standing as the auctioneer calls out your paddle number before you sit down. 3) IF YOU DONATE $250 or MORE,YOU WILL BE HONORED WITH INCLUSION OF YOUR FAMILY NAME ENGRAVED ON OUR SISTER PETER JOSEPH LEARNING CENTER DEDICATION PLAQUE. If you donated $250 or more last year and you donate $250 or more this year, your family's name will be recognized in a special category on the Dedication Plaque. 4) As the auctioneer keeps issuing the challenge, remain standing to donate more. 5) Your donation will be added to your check-out receipt. 6) Let's see who earns the title of "Grand Tycoon"! Page 13 Games and Special events Unlock a Tiffany Treasure What woman doesn’t love jewelry! The key sellers, affectionately known as Our Precious Jewels, hold the key to a beautiful Tiffany jewelry piece, valued at $250 and exchangeable at Tiffany & Co. Look for The Jewels and use your paddle number to purchase a key or keys from them. The keys are $10 each – but there are only 100 keys available. The unlocking will take place at 7:50, before the silent auction tables close, so be sure to arrive in plenty of time before they sell out! Donors: Lorraine Ereno, Pam Mueller, Robin Calvetti, Kim Boyd, and Denise McCombie Gentlemen’s Cellar This one’s for the gentlemen. Be the one to unlock the treasure chest and win high -quality aged scotch and high ball collection. The keys are $15 each – but there are only 50 keys available. The unlocking will take place at 7:50, before the silent auction tables close, so be sure to arrive in plenty of time before they sell out! Donors: Michelle Miller and Joanne Koering Heads-or-Tails Game Beads are $10 each or 3 for $25 (limit 3) When the auctioneer calls the start of the game, participants place their hands on their head or tail. The auctioneer will flip a coin and call "heads" or "tails," and participants matching the call will proceed to the next round. Participants that do not match the call either exit the game or take off one beaded necklace. The winner of the game shall receive a wine basket.
