PE Wicker furniture
“Wicker” is the technique of weaving and is not a product in itself. Rattan and PE can be weaved into wicker furniture.
Each piece of Placid Pools’ furniture is hand woven. Due to this it can be expected to find irregularities in the weave
when comparing different pieces as some were created by a different craftsman.
PE Rattan Benefits
Traditional rattan is a natural fibre which is susceptible to rotting in outdoor applications. The use of PE Rattan
(Polyethylene) has become a new industry standard due to the excellent durability it maintains when used in outdoor
areas. It doesn’t rot, mould, warp, crack or splinter. No seasonal treatment is required. PE is very green, or has little effect on the environment in the production of the material. Our PE’s have UV protection mixed into the fibres to help
reduce wear and tear due to the sun. This will not only prolong the durability of the furniture but will also help keep a
bright colour.
Aluminium Frames
Some manufacturers use timber or steel frames which do not stand the test of time in the harsh tropical environment or
for general outdoor use. Lightweight aluminium tubes are welded together to form the frame of Placid Pools Wicker
furniture. For outdoor furniture Aluminium is superior to natural fibres due to its resistance to corrosion and rot. This is
particularly important in areas close to the coast which endure persistent sea-air exposure.
Fabric
100% Polyester Outdoor fabric is used due to its water and stain repellent qualities. 100% Polyester is also more durable in outdoor conditions and will not rot.
Care and maintenance
Keeping your PE Wicker furniture out of direct sunlight will prolong its lifespan. Despite having UV-resistant properties it
is not advisable to leave furniture in direct sunlight for prolonged periods if it can be avoided. Soap and water should be
used with a sponge to clean the furniture followed by rinsing with a hose. There is no need to paint or sand your PE outdoor furniture, or to apply a treatment seasonally as it’s needed with other types of outdoor furniture such as teak. PE
does not warp, crack or splinter.
Fabric Care
Although PE is water and stain resistant, it is recommended to treat your cushion covers before use with a wash-in or
spray-on silicone treatment. Supermarket scotch guards are also a suitable alternative, you’ll need approx. 3 cans for a
large size setting. This will enhance the water and stain resistant qualities of the fabrics. All cushion covers may be unzipped and simply washed in the washing machine. They take less than 30 mins to dry if hanged outside. Some owners
like to buy a second set of covers to use while one set is being washed. These can also be ordered through Placid Pools.
How long the product is expected to last?
The manufacturer offers a 12 months limited warranty, but depending on usage and care you should expect the product
to last at least 3+ years.
Not sure about the white cushions….?
Our fabric is stain resistant, so even if it gets the odd ice cream and tomato sauce treatment, it can easily be washed in
the washing machine without any permanent staining. Most stains can easily be wiped off without having to wash it.
Extra sets of cushion covers can easily be ordered in a variety of colours.
Warranty
A 12 month manufacturer’s warranty is provided from the date of purchase. Damage caused by misuse or neglect is not
covered by the warranty.
