UN-GGIM: User case studies Template for Member States Malaysia : Flood Hazard Map :Using GIS to determine the nearest evacuation centre and estimated population involved. •Users: The Management of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), Malaysia •Key use: To Determine the nearest Evacuation Centre and estimated population involved and the action should be taken should the flood occurs. How?: The Maps from Geoinformation For Natural Resources And Environment (G4NRE) have been used as a risk assessment tool in order to reduce the adverse impacts of floods disasters. The analysis will provide information on estimated population affected, the locations of the nearest evacuation centers and the estimated amount of humanity aids to be supplied. •Benefits: Wide usage of GIS in government agencies capable to bring changes in aspects of management and administration with a particular focus on how geospatial information will assist the management of NRE to take necessary steps in order to provide assistance to the people affected by the flood. Different level of orthoimagery Malaysia : Decision making :Using GIS to manage the Muar River Basin for sufficient water, clean water supply, reduce flood risks and to enhance environmental conservations. •Users: The Management of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), Malaysia •Key use: To Manage the Muar River basin for sufficient water, clean water supply, reduce flood risks and to enhance environmental conservations. How?: The Maps in Geoinformation For Natural Resources And Environment (G4NRE) will be use to coordinate in conservation, management and water resources development activities across all sectors in the Muar River Basin. It aims to maximize economic and social benefit to preserve and reinstating water resources and natural ecosystem. •Benefits: These comprehensive information will assist the management of NRE to take necessary steps in order to preserve the water resources and environmental conservation. It can improve returns on investment through better coordination , usage of geospatial data.
