Both teams dominated their semi-‐final games, eventually coming to meet each other in the final. The Thunderhawks struck first with two goals from John Wagner and Brandon Kraemer, ending the first period with a 2-‐1 lead. The teams matched goals in the second, scoring two each to make it 4-‐3 for the Thunderhawks. The third remained scoreless, and the Thunderhawks took home their first Intermediate A title. The Peterborough Lakers and the London Blue Devils faced off in the Intermediate B final, a rematch of their close round robin game in which the Lakers beat the Blue Devils 4-‐3. The Lakers played a dominant game, shutting the Blue Devils scoring down until the third. Peterborough scored one in the first and two in the second to take the lead 3-‐0. The Blue Devils staged a comeback in the third, scoring three goals to tie the game with 2:47 left. Peterborough’s Kenny Murduff scored his second almost 20 seconds later to take back the lead, but the Blue Devils managed to force overtime with a goal in the last minute of play by Carter Hastings. The hard fought match came to an end at the 6:45 mark when Kealan Ryan, assisted by Murduff, scored the game-‐winning goal to hand the Lakers their championship win. After playing each other in their first game of the tournament, the Wallaceburg Griffins and Oshawa Blue Knights met again in the Intermediate C Provincial final. The Griffins took their last meeting 8-‐4, and continued to dominate the tournament, going easily undefeated in regular play. While this initial game was the Blue Knights only loss, they tied another game 5-‐5 with Markham Thunder heading into the playoffs. Both teams scored one in the first, but it was the Griffins who broke out in the second to take the lead. They blasted two goals in four minutes, and the Blue Knights’ Vinton Gaskin responded with his own to make the score 3-‐2 for the Griffins. The Griffins logged two more to put them up 5-‐2 going into the third period. Though Wallaceburg’s scoring was tempered in the third, the Blue Knights were unable to stage a comeback, and Wallaceburg took home their first ever Intermediate C victory with a final score of 6-‐3. -‐30-‐ FOR MORE INFORMATION: Taylor Craig Festival Event Communications Ontario Lacrosse Festival [email protected]
