OPPORTUNITIES
• Increasing the tourism volume in Romania’s GDP
• Increasing the standard of life in the past few years has increased the interest to
spend the holidays in different ways (about 40,000 Romanian tourists spend at
least 100 millions Euros on winter destinations)
• Supplementing the possibilities and existing capacities in the Prahova Valley
and Poiana Brasov resorts to cover the demand upon European standards with
regard to waiting time, amount, variety and length of tracks
• The existence of new investors with experience in tourism
• Tourism operators can provide tourist opportunities in Romania on the current
markets in competition with other European destinations
• Organizing in Romania the ‘Goodwill Games’, in 2013, before the Olympic winter
games
• Opportunities of developing ecological tourism and health centres
• The existence of the programmes financed by European funds

AREAS WITH MAJOR TOURIST POTENTIAL
The biggest part of the
mountains area in Dambovita
(almost 16,334 hectares)
comes from the Bucegi
Natural
Park and
represents almost 51 percent
of its surface. It is the greatest
opportunity for Dambovita
County to
develop opportunities to build
a resort for winter sports
(Pestera -Padina) and
another one (Leaota). Padina
- Pestera will be a resort for
eco-tourism due to the supply
of green energy (sun and
wind), bio food, transport and
environment protection.

NATURAL ENVIRONMENT – PROTECTED AREA
In this area there are a
number of 10 natural
reservations
established under Law
No. 5 in 2000, where
we can find protected
species of plants: the
edelweiss, the
smirdar, the bellflower
campanula, the wild
orchid, etc. and
animals such as the
black goat, the
mountains cock, the
brown bear, the wild
cat, the Carpathian
stag.
SKI
POTENTIAL
The priceless jewel of the Bucegi Mountains is their special ski potential. If Romania organizes
any competition like ‘ The Winter Olympics’, this will be the only place in the Country where
there have been identified small distances, of maximum 12 km, suitable for ski tracks and
facilities which could be homologated by international federations. Only for mountain skiing,
tracks of different degrees of difficulty of about 56.1 kilometers can be validated; two tracks of
them have Olympic features.
It may consider the idea, agreed by the Romanian Olympic Committee, National Agency for
Sports and the Romanian Federation of ski-bob and skating to create the Olympic National
Centre for Winter Sports.

Pitesti-Brasov (DN7) and Bucharest-Brasov (DN1)
Rapid access on railway, highway, and national roads; proximity to the
“Henri Coanda” and Baneasa Airports in Bucharest
Various tracks and different heights
Isochronous in 90 minutes of transport for about 6 million people and
the possibility to develop the access for four axes (by car and by cable)
Tourist area unspoiled by the chaotic urban development
Developing complementary activities in summer, sustained by people
who come very often in the Bucegi Plateau (Padina, a Romanian brand)
and a special natural environment
