achter de enorme ruiten, heeft men hier zicht op de bruisende
Zuid-buurt van Gent. Enkele jaren geleden werd ook Barista 2
geopend, pal in het centrum, bij het brugje tussen de Lange
Munt en Oudburg.
The name “Barista” or coffee sommelier says it all. This is the
place to be if you want to enjoy a good coffee. At Barista coffee is the main attraction, but the pastries and bread are also
delicious, and they’re all carefully baked at the in-house organic bakery. Take a seat at the long tables along the enormous
windows and admire the hustle and bustle of Ghent’s Zuid
neighbourhood. A few years ago “Barista 2” opened its doors,
right in the city centre, near the bridge between Langemunt
and Oudburg.

Het Patershol is vooral gekend
voor zijn gezellige straatjes en
uitmuntende restaurants. Toch
zijn ook hier zeker leuke café’s
te vinden. Zo ligt ietwat
verborgen in het Patershol de
‘White Cat’, een ondergrondse
danstempel. Of wat dacht je van
café ‘Folklore’, met jukebox,
volkse atmosfeer en ‘kroakemandels’: erwten in de olie gebakken, overgoten met zout. Maar
ook Oudburg is aan een opmars
bezig. Dit folkloristisch aandoend straatje, dat al veel als
filmdecor werd gebruikt, ligt vol
met bars en cafés die de moeite
waard zijn. Van koffie- tot cocktailbars, iedereen wordt bediend
in deze bijzonder mooie hoek van
Gent.

Zoals de naam al doet vermoeden, kan men hier op zondagvoormiddag terecht voor ‘beesten’: kippen, konijnen en dergelijke. Ook tweedehandsfietsen
(zeer handig in Gent!) zitten dikwijls in het assortiment. Dit plein
is echter in de eerste plaats
gekend als een uitgaansbuurt. De
bekende Belgische band ‘Das
Pop’ begon ooit café ‘Video’ en
het muziekfestival ‘Boomtown’
vond hier zijn oorsprong. In de
hippe Gentse ‘Club 69’ tref je de

De Korenmarkt ligt midden in het

trekpleister voor terrasjesmensen en de historische gebouwen
errond zorgen voor een adembenemend zicht. Naast de StNiklaaskerk ligt Klein Turkije. Dit
steegje heeft niets te maken met
Turkije, wel met de uitdrukking
‘ter keie’, aan de grond zitten.
Hier werden vroeger immers
openbare verkopen georganiseerd, na een faillissement.
Heden ten dage komt men in dit
caféstraatje echter voor vertier.

Centraal ligt de ‘Charlatan’, een
