NO MASS OR SERVICE
Dear Parishioners,
Today is a very special day not only
because it is Pentecost Sunday - the
birthday of our church - but also because
today our young brothers and sisters who
have been preparing for the last several
months will finally receive Jesus Christ in the Eucharist as
they have today their First Communion. I am sure most of
us can still remember when we received our first
Eucharist - whether as a child during our own First
Communion or as an adult through RCIA. Whenever that
was, it was special. Receiving the Eucharist for the first
time makes the presence of Jesus Christ in our lives more
real. The doctrine of the real presence of Jesus Christ in
the Eucharist might not be fully understood by us, but in
faith, we truly believe that Jesus is really present in the
Eucharist. And what an honor for us to welcome Him into
our bodies and into our lives. Let us then always, make
the reception of the Eucharist a special event in our lives.
With our help, the children who will receive Jesus in the
Eucharist for the first time today will begin to understand
more clearly the meaning of Jesus Christ's words:
"Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal
life, and I will raise them up at the last day." It is our role
to guide them and to teach them to understand this
message of Jesus Christ fully; may we never get tired and
may we never stop. Just as Confirmation is not a
graduation from youth group meetings, First Communion
is not a graduation from Religious Education. Let us pray
for the strength and the courage to be an example to the
younger members of our community in the reception of
the Eucharist and in the practice of the Faith.
May the Holy Spirit continue to lead all of our lives to
holiness so that the darkness of sin may truly vanish
before the light of Jesus Christ our Lord.
In Christ, Fr. Maro
