Walton Beach October 18-22. This is the only five day HOG Rally in the USA, most others are 2 1/2 Days. The reason we are promoting this rally so early is because of the pre-registration deadline which is September 1. After that date you can only register on site. See event flyer on page 2. Also see article on pages 7-8. This is going to be one whale of a party. Harley-Davidson is not doing a stationary rally this year, this would be a great replacement. The rally has great entertainment as well as non stop activities from the kick off. If you are not a HOG Member call 352-516-6485 for assistance. Starke Bikefest is August 26-28, see flyer on page 28. If you’re the kind of person that likes that good ole fashion type of biker get together this event is for you. Rebel Rider Magazine will be covering every minute of the action. September brings two fantastic motorcycle events. Bainbridge Bikefest is the 14th-18th, see flyer page 57. Phil Peterson’s Key West Poker Run is the 15th-18th see flyer page 59. Warning...both events will keep you partying all night long. Why not get in a bunch of riding and do both!!! Our last subject is event flyers. We get a lot of request, and try to do our best to help everyone as well as cover the event. We do request that our advertisers be used as stops during your ride. Supporting them is helping Rebel Rider Magazine stay a free publication. Thousands of riders can’t wait for Biketoberfest to get out of the way because the following week they jump on their Harley and head north to Destin * Ft. Walton Beach for the 2011 Florida State HOG Rally which has become according to many the number one state rally in the USA. This event has gotten so popular that it draws riders from nearly ever state, plus many fly and rides from countries as far away as New Zealand, Germany, England and several others including our sister country Canada. One might ask what makes this event so popular. First the event location...one of the best rides we have in Florida is Hwy 98 headed west from Perry. This road has been untouched by most riders. Each city you pass through is loaded with Old Florida History. When you reach the Emerald Coast the sun-bleached beaches are so white they will leave you breathless, the Gulf Of Mexico waters are a beautiful Emerald Color. The Emerald Coast has been selected by USA today as the “Best Beach’s In The USA. There are 24 miles of sugar-white sands. The rally is a five day rally that begins on Tuesday night October 18 at AJ’s Seafood Restaurant within the Harbor Walk Village which is Host Site that connects to the Em- Saturday Parade. More Pictures page 8 7 Main Stage Area seats a few thousand. Note the Host Site to the rear. Sorry Folks...this location has been sold out since January. There are still a lot of great condos and hotels to choose from. There is simply no where to go in Florida for better daily events or entertainment. Do Not Miss This Event. Sign Up Today. Preregistration ends September 1. Above the parade of flags on Saturday always has a fantastic turn out. Even after an all night party nothing stops the Harley’s from more ridding. This years ride ends at Uptown Station where there will be a Poker Walk that will have 10 winners taking home $150.00 each. Bike Show, entertainment and much more will take place on this site. After riders leave Uptown Station they head back to the Emerald Grande to see 38 Speical live along with Fire Works and a Vintage Aircraft Fly Over. Rank: Staff Sergeant Organization: U.S. Army Company: Company D Division: 2d Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment Born: 29 July 1979, Santa Fe, NM Departed: No Entered Service At: New Mexico G.O. Number: Date of Issue: 07/12/2011 Accredited To: New Mexico Place / Date: 26 May 2008, Paktya Province, Afghanistan Citation Medal of Honor For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty: Staff Sergeant Leroy A. Petry distinguished himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty in action with an armed enemy in the vicinity of Paktya Province, Afghanistan, on May 26, 2008. As a Weapons Squad Leader with D Company, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Staff Sergeant Petry moved to clear the courtyard of a house that potentially contained high-value combatants. While crossing the courtyard, Staff Sergeant Petry and another Ranger were engaged and wounded by automatic weapons fire from enemy fighters. Still under enemy fire, and wounded in both legs, Staff Sergeant Petry led the other Ranger to cover. He then reported the situation and engaged the enemy with a hand grenade, providing suppression as another Ranger moved to his position. The enemy quickly responded by maneuvering closer and throwing grenades. The first grenade explosion knocked his two fellow Rangers to the ground and wounded both with shrapnel. A second grenade then landed only a few feet away from them. Instantly realizing the danger, Staff Sergeant Petry, unhesitatingly and with complete disregard for his safety, deliberately and selflessly moved forward, picked up the grenade, and in an effort to clear the immediate threat, threw the grenade away from his fellow Rangers. As he was releasing the grenade it detonated, amputating his right hand at the wrist and further injuring him with multiple shrapnel wounds. Although picking up and throwing the live grenade grievously wounded Staff Sergeant Petry, his gallant act undeniably saved his fellow Rangers from being severely wounded or killed. Despite the severity of his wounds, Staff Sergeant Petry continued to maintain the presence of mind to place a tourniquet on his right wrist before communicating the situation by radio in order to coordinate support for himself and his fellow wounded Rangers. Staff Sergeant Petry's extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service, and reflect great credit upon himself, 75th Ranger Regiment, and the United States Army. 10 11 Ride For Angels 2011 money they raised on this item, but I am sure hundreds took a chance on winning. This event was a huge success! The weather was perfect, Outback Steak House out of Clermont provided a fantastic meal, everything adds up to a great time for bikers and a big fund raising day for Hospice. Eight years ago Clermont Harley Owners Group started the Hospice Ride For Angels. Like most events it starts out slow the first year and continues to grow. While visiting Clermont HarleyDavidson on Million Mile Monday Janice Malik Owner of Stormy Hill Harley-Davidson and Linda Crouse the director of Clermont HOG showed me the check for Hospice that they are giving this year...total $26,214.00. Dennis Holloran who serves on this committee to raise money for Hospice has been what I think is the back bone to the success of this event. When you attend this event you will see that nothing is lacking. When I arrived to sign up it was early so the lines were short, then in no time the lines grew like crazy. Hundreds showed up, those lines did not last long. There were around 40 or more volunteers working to help make sure supporters of the event did not have to wait long. I took a few short cuts on the poker run and hung out with some riders from Seminole HOG along the way. When I arrived at the Minneola City Hall the parking lot was packed with cars and motorcycles of all types, nearly any Motorcycle Club you could name joined in on the event. While looking at all the great door prizes, silent auction items and auction items it was easy for me to see why this event raises so much money, you could have removed about every outside door on your home and replaced them with the awesome wood doors that went up for auction. Door prizes consisted of hundreds of different prizes. Another item they had was a Vento Scooter they sold raffle tickets on, I am not sure how much Linda Crouse Director Clermont HOG and Janice Malick Owner Stormy Hill Harley-Davidson with check for Hospice Picture above Dennis Holloran taking a little time away from all his hard work...this kind of time from work is really great. Dennis earned every minute off he got which was not much. Great job Dennis. More Pics Page 13-14 12 13 Bikes parked at Minneola City Hall. Ride for Angels Awesome auction items. Picture on the left. Outback Girls 14 15 Exciting News For Bikers this location going to go now. The cat can’t be replaced, the old Harley could, the building could. So Mark and Bonnie put their front foot forward and said...we are going to rebuild. This story is about the good ole times...the way it was in the past...new stories are yet to come after the Grand Re-Opening on August 13...a party I am sure that will go well into August 14. Enjoy the pictures from the past as we look forward to the future of this fantastic get-a-way. Hark The fire is only a memory now for all of us who enjoyed the Pirates Pub in Paisley. After many months of hard work a brand new building stands in the same location. That night was a nightmare for Mark and Bonnie owners of the Pirates Pub. When the ashes settled, the only thing they were thinking about was the loss of the well known cat Samantha, the loss of an old Harley, and where are the many bikers that love 16 Pirate’s Pub has lots of friends. Above picture is the Lake County Mil Vets Chillin...I am sure we will see them on August 13 in big numbers. Above picture some members of Lake HOG inside Pirate’s Pub. All the decorations were destroyed during the fire. So if you have something to give Bonnie and Mark for the Re-Opening Party I know they will really be thankful to get it...the inside bar has changed a little bit...but for the most part, it is the same Pirates Pub. Open to all riders Mark and Bonnie Owners. Picture taken during the Cruisers 40th Anniversary Run. We look forward to many years to come riding out to this awesome watering hole. August 2011, Rebel Rider Magazine 17 18 many Americans who are standing for us in both international conflicts and home front battles. Patriot Guard Riders Flag Line Standing for those who stood for us…. Respectfully submitted: Buckeye, N. Florida PGR Ride Captain. Rebel Rider The Patriot Guard Riders stood on June 24th and 25th for the two Florida firefighters who died in the Blue Ribbon fire in Hamilton County on Monday June 20th. Both families graciously invited the Patriot Guard Riders to join with them in honoring their loved ones. Joshua Burch was only 31 years old and left a wife and two children. He had worked with the Division of Forestry for more than 10 years. Brett Fulton, 52, began as a professional welder with the Division 12 years ago and has been a Forest Ranger with the Department for more than nine years. He leaves behind a wife and two grown children in White Springs. The services for both firefighters were held at the Christ Central Church in Lake City where over 2000 mourned their deaths. Fire departments and State agencies from all over Florida were represented at these services. These men stood for us when needed, and lost their lives doing so. Now was our time to stand and honor these men who are every bit as much heroes as the men and women who fought and still fight for this country in all its wars. Sometimes we need to be reminded that there are 19 William Boe The Real Florida Photographer’s latest pictures….this guy knows where to find them. His office number is 352-3771572. I came up with some pretty cool pictures from the past. We hope you enjoy...Hark Above picture is the old Gator HarleyDavidson in Leesburg. The above picture is our very good friend Otis, everyone that knew Otis loved him. He had a special zest for life. Push and I rode hundreds of miles with Otis, we shared hotels together during bikeweek, trips to Cedar Key and much more. Otis is no longer with us, but pictures of the great times we had keeps his memory alive. In coming months we will be sharing stories of other friends we have ridden with the past two decades. The man seated is Hobo...has anyone seen him. As I recall he started the Lake County Mil Vets. Tell Hobo we said Hi. Picture taken in front of the old Gator Harley many years ago. If you would like to read more or join in with us, please go to our webpage: and follow the links. www.patriotguard.org There are no chapters, no meetings, no dues… just a group of men and women who believe in what our veterans have done and are still doing world-wide to protect our American freedoms. A typical “mission” allows us to stand in silent respect while holding our 3 x 5 American flags on poles. We usually line up along a walk or entrance to a funeral home or church or an airport terminal. Occasionally we are requested to provide a motorized escort to a cemetery. We frequently find ourselves at ceremonies at any of Florida’s National Cemetery’s plus the many services at private cemetery’s as well. I hope you will consider joining in with your fellow patriotic Americans in this worthwhile effort. Charly “Buckeye” Hornbrook North Central Florida Ride Captain. [email protected] The Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse group of over 240,000 riders from across our nation. We have one thing in common besides motorcycles. We have an unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for America’s freedom and security. If you share this respect, please join us. We don’t care what you ride or if you ride, what your political views are, or whether you’re a hawk or a dove. It is not a requirement that you be a veteran. It doesn't matter where you’re from or what your income is; you don’t even have to ride. The only prerequisite is Respect. Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic objectives: 1. Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities. 2. Shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors. We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means. We also “stand” when the military sends off personnel to the far flung posts around the world and when they arrive home from their tours of duty. To those of you who are currently serving and fighting for the freedoms of others, at home and abroad, please know that we are backing you. We honor and support you with every mission we carry out, and we are praying for a safe 25 St. Augustine I know that most of you have been to Daytona for bike week and biketoberfest but if you’ve never been to St. Augustine you have missed some of Florida’s natural history. Just a few miles north of Daytona beach is some of the most unique places to visit. One can spend days in down town walking around checking out all the shops, touring the old fort and one of my favorite biker hang outs, The Trade Winds Lounge, there’s always something going on there. Jump on your scoot and head south on A1A to Matanzas state park and take a free, that’s right, I said FREE, boat ride across the inner coastal water way to Fort Matanzas where there is plenty of shady parking and an awesome history lesson. I won’t bore you with the details, just get on your bike and go see for yourself. While you are there, be sure and go on one of the many ghost tours, my favorite is the pub tour. Ride Florida, there’s plenty to see and do here in the Sunshine State. I hope the pix will inspire you to visit this wonderful old city and its surrounding areas. It was a great day and felt like old home week. Folks I haven’t seen in a long time showed up for the birthday party, as well as to hear Rusty, Debi and Stanimal play, and to just hang out with old and dear friends. If you haven’t been to “the Trap” yet, I encourage you to do so. The beer is always cold and it is a great stop on any part of your ride. Stop by and say hi to Mark and his bartenders, Michelle, Jessica and Kelly. Tell ‘em YGIRL sent ya!!!! Well, time to move on….see ya at the next stop!! YGIRL Well, summer is in full swing and the riding has been great. Yeah, sure there’s been showers nearly every day, but it is Florida. Now if you wait just a few minutes, it’s sure to be over and you can get back to ridin’. While you’re out there on that ride, if you happen to find yourself in, or passing through, Inglis make sure you stop on by the Mousetrap Saloon. Fondly referred to as “The Trap” by the locals and folks in neighboring towns, it is located in lower Levy County. It is frequently a stop on many of the poker runs that take place in Levy, Citrus and sometimes South Marion counties. The Mousetrap Saloon has been a favorite stop for bikers for many years. I’ve often heard folks say that they always stop there on their way to and/or from Cedar Keys. Many times, it is THE perfect respite for folks traveling from the St. Pete/ Tampa area on one of their weekend getaways to our beautiful riding country. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit with some very dear old friends when the “Trap” hosted a birthday party for Cookie and a few other folks. Well known from days of old, very popular trio, Rusty, Debi and Staminal (Cookie‘s hubby), played to the delight of the crowd. Other bands who also played at “the Trap” in years past, also took to the stage keeping the crowd happy and enthusiastic. Mark, owner of “the Trap” is always willing to host a party or event for people. And he and his fantastic bartenders do a great job of it too. They always have a cold brew ready for 30 Rebel Rider Magazine out and about pictures. Also we’ve been going to Bike night out at Kirbside Pub on Wednesday nights Bike Night Pam and Bike Night Phil are always playing some good toons as well as all kinda games to play. But the Big news this month is that the Pirates Pub has risen from the ashes and is once again open for business out on 42 in Paisley and let me tell you all it is nice Mark and Bonnie have way outdone themselves there having a Grand Opening Party on the 13 of August so head on out and check it out hell you don’t have to wait till then go grab a cold one there know and beat the crowds. Well that’s enough for know I’ll see you all at the Gator Harley Davidson's Anniversary party on the 30th 31st of July gonna be a helluva bash. Till then WFO till you see God then brake. Out and about with Doc Don Well hey ya’ll how’s your summer going I hope all of you had a fun and safe 4TH as for Lynn and I we went out to Paisley to our good friends Tree & Dees where there was just to much good food to eat then fireworks damn good time. On the last Monday in June I took a run down to Stormy Hill Harley Davidson to sign up for HOGS Million Mile Monday and ran into Hark there and there were people riding in from all over the area. What was a real nice surprise was that we were told that the Clermont chapter of HOG had raised over 26,000 dollars for Hospice now tell me isn’t that a nice way to start a week? Well after leaving Stormy Hill Harley I had a bunch of running around to do so I headed south on 27 down just past I-4 to buy a knew pair of boots at this nice shop called Way Out West then I hopped on 4 east around to the Sanford Mt. Dora exit made a quick stop at the house then went up through the Ocala Forrest to H&Bs in Ocala to pick up a front brake line for my brother Frank which I got a great deal on and that’s when my day turned to crap I go to leave but my scoot says ahhhh naa at first I think my batteries gone no to simple its my starter so to shorten this 300 bucks and some parking lot wrenchin I was on my way but it got to late to go back to Stormy Hill. Doc Don Pictures on page 46 45 Above picture Kurbside. Below Pirates Pub is open. 46 47 HEDO’S RUN anyone. As we rolled in, there were coolers waiting and everyone gathered around the gravesite in the pouring rain for the salute – this is what the ride was all about. Saturday, June 18th was the day for “Hedo’s Run”, put on by the Boozefighters MC Chapter 68 out of Edgewater. This was billed as their 2nd Annual Memorial Run and Party in remembrance of their late fellow member Jack “Hedo” Sauers. Hedo was a former Marine and father of five that became a proud member of the Boozefighters back in 2005. On March 21, 2009, Hedo and his wife Terri were in a bike accident, and while taking x-rays doctors discovered that he had lung cancer. The cancer moved fast, and on May 7, 2009 Hedo passed away. It was obvious from the huge turn-out, including three other Boozefighters Chapters from around the state, that Hedo was loved and missed by many people. Back we all went to the All American Club, we were soaking wet but no one seemed to care - it was time to party. The Big Daddy Band was rocking, the “Boozettes” had a great buffet set up, and the adult beverages just kept coming. You’re guaranteed to have a great time when you come out and party with the Boozefighters. They aren’t called “the Original Wild Ones” and “a drinking club with a motorcycle problem” for nothing – this is what they do. All around it was a great day – remembering and honoring a brother that is no longer here, and celebrating life with friends and family. The ride was billed as a memorial run and party and that pretty much sums it up, especially heavy on the party. No escorted ride, poker run or entry charge here. Things kicked off at noon at The All American Club, the Boozefighters’ clubhouse, and from there it was really simple – head up to Traders Pub in New Smyrna Beach, last bike out at 2:30, be back by 6:00. Everyone rode north to Traders at their own pace, but by late afternoon, the bar, dance floor and deck out back was a sea of green and white. Traders had free food set up and the drinks were flowing, but then it was time to go - with one last stop along the way. Everyone left as a group and ran south on US 1 to the Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery for one more toast to Hedo. As we neared the cemetery, the thunder started rolling and the sky just opened up, but a little rain, no make that a lot of rain, wasn’t going to stop -Brad More Pictures on page 50 48 49 More Pictures Page 51 50 August 2011.
