Powerful emission and concise colour control are unique characteristics of DURASTRIP. They meet all the demands of modern strips specifications, flexibility, both indoor and outdoor unstallation, a very long life, and extended maintenance cycles. The range of applications for LED strips of this calibre is extensive and as is often said, the only limit is your imagination. The following pages show what DURASTRIP can do for you, exploring all potential options and installation. Figure 4: CRI of an RGB+W (White) source Ra=83 Figure 5: CRI of an RGB+W (White) source Qa=95 Figure 6: CRI LED "A" Ra=92 Figure 7: CQS LED "A" Qa=85 2 Colour, Ra and Qa: a better way to define colour! Thanks to the increasing diffusion of LEDs and with the experience acquired in using LEDs for lighting more attention is paid to the quality of light colour. This means that while analysing the colour rendering of white light there is always a difference between the measured quality parameter, CRI (Color Rendering Index), and the level of quality perceived by the human eye. As chip manufacturers specialise in creating and perfecting increasingly efficient LED lights, the difference between measured and perceived parameters increases and it becomes more difficult to explain the divergence between the rigid measurement parameters and the real effect within the environment. CRI is the result of the need to give parameters to “colour fidelity” and is calculated for comparison with the source type as a reference. Colour fidelity on its own is not an evaluation parameter that can sufficiently identify the quality of white light: it does not take into account any possible variations in colour saturation that can improve visual ability to discriminate those colors. Light is a living component of every element, each individual “perceives” colour in a different way, in fact no two eyes are the same and colour interpretation varies from individual to individual. Colour itself, its perception, depends on a state of mind and can therefore be seen in different ways and generate different sensations. The new and yet un-standardised parameter to measure colour Quality is the CQS (Color Quality Scale). Unlike the CRI it uses a different method of calculation: it compares 15 saturated colours evenly distributed in the colour space. The same colour space used to measure is no longer the CIE1931, used for CRI, but the CIELAB: it allows for more accurate measurement because it is a more complete color model used to describe all colours visible to the human eye. A multiplicative factor has also been introduced, a function of colour temperature, to take into account reduced colour rendering that characterises extreme colour temperatures. Figure 1: CIE LAB Diagram Figure 2: C.I.E. 1931 Diagram Figure 3: Difference between the palettes of comparison of sources The CRI works suitably with broad spectrum sources while the CQS is better suited to narrow spectrum sources with high peaks and vast empty areas. In the CQS the source being tested is not penalized by “points” for any deviances from the reference if the deviance improves colour saturation. A good example of the above is a comparison between results obtained by using the two methods on a RGB+W (White) source: strongly penalized by the CRI system, if used adequately it has appreciable results in real life applications. The source is evaluated by the CRI system with a Ra=83 and with the CQS system with a Qa=95, the real difference can be seen by using a source of this type in applications where fabric or places that have a lot of different colour tones are lit. See Figures 4 and 5. In the same way a good LED source which we will call “A”, with a spectral line that duly follows the CRI reference source, if evaluated with the CQS does not perform so well, given that colours near to BLUE are less saturated. See Figures 6 and 7. In conclusion, the official reference parameters at present do not express the potential of this particular technology, moreover the same is in continuous evolution. It follows that the method to evaluate a source must be an accurate analysis of its spectrum in relation to what needs to be lit in order to manufacture a product that can reproduce what we want to illuminate accurately and without distorting colour tones. 3 PERCEPTION OF COLOURS: THE PERFECT SPECTRUM Colours do not exist unless they are shown in a light that contains them in its spectrum. The same colour is perceived in a totally different way depending on the source that illuminates it. Not only according to the colour temperature, the kind of source and its colour rendering, but most of all according to the spectral distribution of the source. DURALAMP is now able to offer exactly the spectrum that the lighting designer wants, in order to exhibit the goods or artworks of any environment at its best! We can recreate with LEDs the same spectrum of an incandescent lamp - or even metal halide, and other lamp sources – we can optimally effect the perception of the environment. SPECIAL FOR PROJECTS MULTIPLE COLOUR SELECTION! The DURASTRIP can be ordered "to measure", including with regard to the colour of the light! Very warm or very cold white, a mix of colours, individual colours. WHITE IP20: 2200K - 2400K - 2700K - 3000K - 3500K - 4000K - 6000K IP68: 2400K - 3000K - 5000K "PURE" COLOURS DURASTRIP single colour but in the colour that counts: red, green, blue (RGB) and blends of these colours also mixed with white. COLOR MIX various colours can be used on the same strip: for example, 40 cm of red color light and then 40 cm of white color light repeated over the whole extension of the strip. Please consult the Florence headquarters to confirm the quantity and design specifications to order DURASTRIP: - Cut to size - With the wiring of the desired lengths - With the desired color temperatures or spectra For this project a strip was created with a colour temperature of 2200K and a customised strip with a mixture of pure colours. This allowed the lighting designer to create a cosy environment to enhance the warm colours of the goods on display while offering a pleasant and relaxing shopping experience. 4 DUAL CIRCUIT: AVOIDING VOLTAGE DROP, MAXIMISING LIGHT OUTPUT We redesigned the circuits of our LED strips introducing a technology to double the track, this is already visible on the 2200K IP20 strip. The double track above and below the circuit provides an improvement of the heat dissipation, halves the current on each power supply circuit and resets the minimum voltage drops while standardizing the flow over the entire length of the strip. To ensure reliability of the product always higher. The increased amount of copper on both sides of the strip makes it possible to reduce the operating temperature of the LED sources; acting as a heat sink, it increases efficiency and the life of the product. It also guarantees improved mechanical and structural resistance of the product for greater reliability. CERTIFIED QUALITY All DURASTRIP and DURALUM products have CE marking which means that they conform to the quality standards, requested of EU Directives and also bear the UL certification mark. The UL mark is issued after certification of the product by third parties such as UL, an independent, non-governmental and non-profit organisation whose mission is to ensure that products conform to standards set by ANSI, the American National Standards Institute. UL certification is therefore a Quality and Safety mark and is required for products to be used in the United States and countries that make reference to the same standards. 5 SPECIAL FOR PROJECTS CUT FOR YOU! - BESPOKE DESIGN The DURASTRIP can now also be ordered "to measure". Duralamp offers an interesting customised service to those working on new or renovations projects. We supply Durastrip LED following the design specifications, already cut to size and if necessary with the length of the cables suitable for every application. Faster installation and a perfect service. BUT WHAT SIZES? Bespoke lengths! Let's presume that in your lighting project for a hotel there are 45 rooms with dimensions of 4x4 m, with a strip on one side only; then there are 45 bathrooms with dimensions of 1.80x1.20m with the strip on the long side. We will supply exactly 45 IP20 stripes in 4 metre rolls, complete wiring of the length necessary for the project, plus 45 IP68 strips in 1.8m rolls. Perfect! Cut step every 10cm (or every 5cm according to the type of strip) to a maximum length of 7 metres, for DURASTRIP max 10W/m or 5m for DURASTRIP max. 15W/m. The customised cable can have a maximum length of 7 meters. Configuration of a “Custom made” product Here are the necessary specifications to define a “custom made” DURASTRIP. The following elements must be defined: 1 - Existing product code 2 - Length of strip segment (the requested length must take into account the cutting spacing of every strip, 5 or 10 cm depending on the model). 3 - Specifications of the requested end feeds (terminals): just 1 or on both sides? In the event of a cable feed on only one side the other side of the strip will be left without connections or with an end cap with silicone sealing for IP68/IP65. 4 - Particular specifications, for example bridges etc., see the next page. CEILING MOUNTING FOR UNIDIRECTIONAL EMISSION PRODESO-FLR 34 SUSPENSION WITH DUAL EMISSION Island Hotel - Newport Beach, California DRIVERS The vast potential of DURASTRIP can be realized through multiple power control and automated options. Numerous solutions can be achieved with available combinations. The solutions to power lighting systems are composed of a series of SELV-equivalent constant voltage power supplies for independent mounting, with the TUV quality mark. These drivers cover the power range from (20)50-200W, for both IP40 version as well as IP67 version with metal case to cover all kinds of indoor as well as more “difficult” outdoor installations. In particular the 60W driver is designed to fit into architectural aluminium profiles IP67 IP40 CONNECTION DIAGRAM Supplier Driver ELECTRICAL CONNECTION: connections in series or parallel STRIP POWER 36 LENGTH CONNECTION DRIVER 170 W 5m - 200W 75 W 5m - 100W 75 W 10 m Parallel 200W 40 W 10 m Series 100W 40 W 15 m Parallel 200W 24 W 15 m Series 100W 24 W 20 m Parallel 100W NOTE Each 5m must be installed in parallel Each 10m must be installed in parallel Each 15m must be installed in parallel CONTROLLERS Duralamp chose to divide the traditional power control system with 2 distinct devices, power supply and controllers allowing for greater flexibility of installation. Controllers provide the essential range of configurations DALI, PUSH-DALI, 1-10V, DMX (RGB+RGB+W [White]). Dimming and control systems can be used to improve the ambient aspect: they help creating unique soothing or lively environments. Moreover they have an important function of energy saving: by varying the emission and/or activating/deactivating the system or appliances, they allow for the optimization of solar lighting and energy consumption. DURALAMP interfaces can control from 120 to 450W with high frequency PWM technology, compact housings and very high efficiency. This minimizes heat dissipation and maximizes the linearity of dimming and thus ensures dimming down to the minimum, close to 1% and with no flicker. DMX INTERFACE 1-10V DIMMING INTERFACE DALI INTERFACE DMX512, which abbreviation is DMX (Digital MultipleX), is a communication protocol mainly used to control lighting (even LED type), from computers or control units. It is normally used to control coloured lighted or white lighted appliances (RGB) with variable temperature. Thanks to the high transmission speed of the data, the DMX allows making dynamic and even complex sceneries. A DMX network consists in 512 channels; the number of appliances that can be controlled cannot be defined beforehand, as it depends on how many DMX channels each appliance uses. E.g., if every appliance of the DMX network uses 3 DMX channels, the network can contain 170 appliances. ZKCDMX-R code version: Equipped with RJ45 connector for DMX signal, complete with looping system and remote sensor with plug (20 cm cable). It can be used in a traditional way or with remote control included in the packaging (signal distance 10 mt in free air). The 1-10V luminous intensity control system runs with analog technology: 1 corresponds to 0% and 10 to 100% of the lamp emission. The intensity can be adjusted by using the linear curve or logarithmic curve and it is the simplest system to install. The connection is carried out by 2 polarity wires placed between the power supply and controller. It can be used with active or passive control systems. The DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) is a digital protocol interfacing with the power supplies. It is widely used in the lighting field as it provides visible benefits compared to the 1-10V analog control technology (it is essentially a flexible, digital control that allows addressing the single appliances). The DALI protocol allows defining appliance units and managing the lighting sceneries, to create the right lighting of an ambient according to its use. Different lighting sceneries can be configured and enabled using a simple key, without involving the system wiring. The DALI protocol is more simple and economic compared to the integrated management systems of a building (building management). A DALI network can control up to 64 appliances/lamps. The interface has the Push/DALI function for a simple management of every single spot light. 37 DIMMERS Options such as regulation of light levels, changes in colour temperature and choosing RGB colour effects maximise your lighting design and manage your energy savings. A new series of “stand alone” wall control systems with touch technology have been introduced that integrate perfectly with existing installations. This affords the end user full flexible control of the LED strips. It makes it possible to control up to 4 zones (understood as rooms or different dimmer systems) both synchronized or independently controlled between the various zones. All touch panels have a DMX data output connector (in accordance with DMX512, 1990 protocol) and can be interfaced with the existing dimmer system by programming the dimmer setting. The touch systems have a memory to record preferred “scenes” for each environment to maintain light levels, white or colour tones and to manage sophisticated effects in an easy way. All dimmer systems are easy to configure and are compatible with ZKCDMX, ZKCDMX-R, ZKCDMXW controllers or with the existing system installed to give the user a renewed environment while containing costs. We offer cost effective lighting solutions for complex lighting designs and applications.
